Cloud
JOSEPH YOBO will be offered a massive wage rise by Everton to tempt him into forming a new-look defensive partnership with Joleon Lescott. Wolves defender Lescott, 23, is set to join the Goodison club in the next 48 hours in a £4.5million deal and had a medical yesterday. On Tuesday Everton chief David Moyes splashed out a club-record £8.6m for Crystal Palace striker Andy Johnson and has also signed goalkeeper Tim Howard on a season-long loan from Manchester United. Now Yobo, who was entering the final 12 months of his contract, has been offered a new four-year deal that will almost DOUBLE his pay. The Nigerian, 25, would collect around £40,000 a week if he stayed and become the club’s best-paid player. Everton chief executive Keith Wyness said: “We have concluded discussions with Wolves. Joleon has been given permission to open talks.” Lescott was also linked with Newcastle, Aston Villa, Seville and Premiership new-boys Reading, but the Royals’ bid was rejected by the board. Lescott missed out on Premiership football with Wolves three years ago after surgery on his knees. But he has proved his fitness with nearly 100 games over the past two campaigns. He made 235 appearances for Wanderers, scoring 13 goals and winning the fans’ Player of the Year award last season. --------------------------------------- Source : The Sun . Adams
It says this: Defender move mooted Fri, Jun 02 2006 14:03 Arsene Wenger could be forced to admit defeat in his battle to land Everton central defender Joseph Yobo. Wenger has the Nigerian at the top of his summer shopping list but Everton are prepared to offer him a new deal to stay at Goodison Park. Yobo only has a year left to run on his contract and Wenger was hoping that Everton would rather sell than loose him for nothing next summer. Chelsea have also expressed an interest in Yobo who cost Everton £4.5 million when they lured him from Marseille four years ago. But Everton are hoping that he will forget about lucrative moves to London by offering to make him one of the highest paid player in the clubs history. Wenger has made it clear that he wants to bring another central defender to the club with Sol Campbell's future less than assured.
Raccyboy
I don't think 40,000 is too much at all - if we can afford that we must pay it.......if yobo stays he can be the pillar of our defence for the next 10 years.......... let's give him the 40,000 pounds and make him captain ---- if that's what it takes
