Nero Ceasar
I know most on here would have no interest in league of Ireland football but for any who may have or just have an interest in a football story here is a quick summary of how a fan can have it all snatched away by the bang of a gavel. As i write this i am awaiting confirmation that Cork City Football Club(The Rebel Army) has been wound up in the high court. After winning the league and then the cup in successive seasons dispatching Malmo Djurgardens ( both Sweden) NEC Nijmegen(Holland) Apollon Nicosia(Cyprus) and many more from european competition the day has arrived when it will all cease to be. Having won the league the club was purchased by Arkaga a british based investment firm who promised it all and delivered nothing but administration within a year. The administrator sold the club to a local business man Tom Coughlan who it turns out is the greatest gangster ever to walk the planet. Two cheques bounced on the revenue, banned from all football activities by the FAI,Owes over €1.2m to local creditors and still claims the world is wrong and he is right. CCFC sold Kevin Doyle,Shane Long(scored cup winner against the shite),Roy O Donovan(Sunderland) Dave Mooney(banging them in for Charlton) David Meyler(sent off recently for Sunderland) and many more to England.Where did all the €s go? its along story but Arkaga ran with what they got and so its presumed did Coughlan. During Arkaga's reign a fans group FORAS friends of the rebel army society was set up to try and safeguard the future of the club, for the last 3 months the group along with two investors have being trying to buy the club off Coughlan last night time ran out when CCFC was refused a license to play in the LOI.Today at 2 a judge was due to wind the club up and hopefully issue perjury preceedings against the owner as will as instructing the fraud squad to investigate. As for FORAS well while trying to buy the club they also applied for a 1st division license for a new club, that was granted last night so out of the demise of CCFC comes a new yet unnamed club 100% owned by the fans. This really is only 2nd prize as no one wanted to lose the club but eventually it was the only way. Dont be surprised if the start of the season here is delayed by court injuctions and the like. I guess the message is be careful what you wish for, to a small locally based Irish side Arkaga were like a Saudi billionaire. But because of them CCFC is no more.Ye may want investment but it aint always what it seems. http://www.forastrust.ie/

MikeO
Very sad....know how you feel....happened to my local (at that time) club thirty-six years ago http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guildford_City_F.C. still makes me sad . Claim to fame (among others) was that Gary Peters started his career there....later to be Davey Moyes boss at Preston . Hopefully the new club will prosper....wish you well.
