Who should be given the HONOUR (and it is an honour) of wearing the Goodison No. 9 Jersey this coming season?

My personal feelings on this one is that Beattie, as the more established Goodison player and after his performances last year...in that I mean getting fit and having a great season after xmas, should get to wear the No.9 shirt.

 

The No.9 shirt is close to every evertonians heart - it is a symbol of love for one team and fear for the opposition.

 

Dixie owns that shirt, no matter who wears it.

 

Latchford, Linekar and Sharp give it the respect it deserved

 

Its not about high goalscoring - its about shear grit, determination and passion for the blue cause - only special players should EVER get the right to wear it and they should be forced to EARN it.

 

Big Dunc earned it by being a favourite with the fans and giving us hope when the chips were down.

 

Campbell deserved it after he single handedly kept us in the premiership.

 

So - sometimes, the shirt should be put on reserve until somebody reaches the high enough status to deserve it - but, its likely to be given to someone this year - so who do you think should get it?

Beatts for me he showed flashes of Everton spirit last season and i think the lad is realy starting to understand what playing for Everton means.

 

Lets hope our new No. 9 starts to score like Latchford and let AJ earn the shirt as realistically he wont understand the significance for at least a season of being blue.

i have had to say AJ as i think beattie will  keep the number 8. i dont know if AJ deserves it, well he doesnt yet but i think he will be the one

I think it would be wrong for AJ to get it IMO, he hasnt even shown he can do the business for us yet atleast Beattie has to a certain extent with his massive improvement after xmas

Raining on the parade a bit here, but I know the legend and folklore surrounding the No 9 shirt, it's just a number and I just want the bugger wearing it to score goals. So I don't really care, and with the instigation of squad numbers any shirt will lose some of it's romance. Just a thought.

The players reprt back on the 3rd July don't they (apart from the 3 on international duty) so we'l have to wait for then, what number did AJ play in at Palace?? Personally i'd give it to Beatts only down to the fact im an old tw@t now and was brought up with the likes of Latchford, Gray, Sharp and more recently Ferguson (all of them legends me lads even called Duncan!!).

 

So going on tradition it has to be the big man who wears 9, also with number 7 vacated i's give it to VDM as that was the number he wore while at Ajax and he says its his lucky number maybe we would get to see the best of him then?? Hope so :P

i cant see many more changes, i doubt they will take 1 from Wright, and if VDM is in Moyes plans then maybe he might get 7. If Naysmith does go to scotland theres possibly 3 going to Nuno, but that would have to be in the next two weeks.

to me the honour will always apply to that number. but BT made it clear last season he wanted it, AJ has worn the 8 shirt for the last few seasons, it makes sense to me for BT to have 9 and AJ to have 8
