Only applies to the clubs that are run at a loss and then spend this sort of money. So they'll all be trying to find a way to make a shit load commercially.

I know mate the trouble is they have done viable break downs of the even massively inflated commercial revenue they generate over there and it is outweighed by transfer fee's and wages

A small amount of daft ones will probably still happen but it won't be a wave of them like many were expecting prior to the new tax laws

Back on topic, it looks like this one is a goer then I'll be happy to have him here I really rate the lad

again im baffled to why people are arsed about what price we need to pay for the player we want and the other team don't want to loose:

1. We can afford it.

2. He could be the difference between pushing for champions league or fighting for Europa.

3. He's one of the best creative midfielders in the prem, a position we have needed in for a long time

4. He's worth more than £50m to Swansea, he is the player to keep them up in the big league with the big money.

5. I'm running out of points

6. Oh that's a point, going abroad for "cheaper" doesn't mean it will work out, he is Prem proven.

7. If you disagree then your dad sells avon. :)

This was an analogy from another site. And this is where I sit personally.

There is a difference between spending £500 on a can of coke and 50p.

If something is really worth it, we may spend £1. But if you can get similar cans of coke for 50p or 70p then do that. Why spend £500 if it's not worth anything like that.

As much as I want him we are fundamentally paying £50m for a dead ball specialist and not much more.

If however we get Giroud in the side our threat from set pieces would be deadly l.

This.

Although was Beckham much more thinking about it?

God knows what our starting 11 is going to be. Pickford, 9 midfielders and Rooney?

If it goes through, I hope we've done it in the right way. It doesn't feel the same as when city or chelsea have chased our players but to Swansea it may.

With gylfi, good player but 40mil is crazy. I'm concerned about pace on the break, it will be Rooney and Gylfi behind Sandro ( who has pace ), technically astute players but we've lost some of that dynamic pace until bolasie is back in my opinion.

No point spending money just because we can.

Each transfer has to be right for the club.

This guy now seems to be digging his heels in a bit, I worry about players like this who know of interest then classify themselves as not mentally right to go on tour with the club that is paying his wages. I don't like that.

Also, I hope Everton is going about the transfer how we usually do. Like Gentlemen.

For me, there is an everyday awkward feeling about this one that is making me feel uneasy.

Lookman and Mirallas have pace, Ziggy is no slouch.

£50m for Gylfi is just about too much. I guess if he wanted to move we could get him for £30m. PL players cost too much, probably because of the huge TV revenue. Someone pointed Bernardo Silva's £40m transfer, which at that price is a bargain. He's better than Gylfi and comes from top club, which makes me nervous if we are to pay a lot more to Swansea for weaker and older player.

But Kyle Walker, a 29 year old defender coming back from injury, has gone to Man City for £50m and nobody bats an eyelid.

People just don't understand capitalism. A player, a house, a car, a meal; they're all worth whatever a person is willing to pay for it

TBH, that's a pretty shallow, narrow, microeconomic understanding of how value is produced or even decided upon.

Also, holy shit, is Kyle Walker seriously 29???? I thought he was like 25-26... Yikes.

I also hope we keep our respect over all our transactions. However, I'm just wondering if it's Swansea's party line to the fans knowing they are going to sell him and not want it dragging on into there preseason. Also if they know he's going to move on why have him start preseason with you. We did the same with Lukaku!

50m for Sigurdsson is absurd, especially when Bernardo Silva went to City for 40m.... and Lemar might go to Arsenal for less....

Rather get Max Meyer in for way less....

FFS we should be signing the next Dani Ceballos and the like instead of splashing the cash poaching from teams far below our level.

Make Dolberg and Ajax and offer they can't refuse etc.

This is my worry. People look at stats and automatically think they are transferable.

Now if we get Giroud, then the set piece chances will be a benefit.

But if we stuck to our usual passing style, then surely we won't? Barkley created much more open play chances, yet we're looking to replace him.

Again when it comes to assists... it is down to the player receiving the ball.

If a defender blocks a shot and Mirralas runs the length of the pitch and scores... the defender gets an assist.

If Ross puts Mirralas in for an open goal and Kev sky's it... Ross gets nothing.

50m for a player that will in essence replace Ross... seems high.

Ross is younger and has more potential for me.

Oooooooooh crikey. Certainly makes you think a bit!

I guess one reason we might be so keen on him is his work rate too. I'm sure if we are so keen on him, it is for more reasons than being able to take a corner?

I think as many say, the £50m tag seems far too high. Hopefully just a smokescreen from Swansea, as Barry said, we did the same with Lukaku and are probably doing the same with Barkley.

Agree with what your saying there.

Except one little bit...we aren't looking to replace Barkley per se, the ball has been firmly in his court but I think it still is.
