londonscouse
Which clubs have the best away support in the country? It will be interesting to see where people put us on the list.. In my opinion it would be between 8 clubs; Us Man United Liverpool Newcastle West Ham (best away following in London) Villa Leeds Arsenal

londonscouse
How do you define best? If it is by numbers, why not look it up on Google? If it was by numbers then Man United would win hands down. By best i mean a mix of noise and numbers.
Avinalaff
I think the Stoke fans are pretty decent to be fair.
Matt
Norwich didnt stop singing the whole game and Swansea kept it up most of the game too. West Ham had a good bunch too. Goodison was nearly a graveyard again last night apart from the cries of desperation after a dodgy pass.
Eddie_1938
Swansea spent half the night singing about us not singing rather than singing Swansea songs...alot of two bit clubs also follow suit with that so that doesn't go down as good support in my book! Norwich were the same. In terms of numbers and turnout it's between utd and Newcastle (excluding Liverpool as they're a derby). Utd always bring the numbers and don't stop singing. I've noticed Newcastle haven't filled their end on a couple of occasions this season (Stoke being one) which is surprising but I suppose they lost a few hangers on after relegation. I disagree west ham are the best supported London club...arsenal by far in terms of away support. West ham only ever fill the lower bullens/paddock at best...it's up and down with spurs. I've always thought city are quiet albeit bring the numbers at goodison and Chelsea are just shite in both aspects! As for us...if you consider we haven't won anything for 17 years and have been poor the majority of that time we have to be up there as the best. We rarely don't sell out, can make a hell of alot off noise and refrain from embarrassing chants such as 'is this a fire drill', 'it's just like being at church', 'we'll sing on our own', 'you're supposed to be at home' (what?) and my all time favourite 'loyal supporters!'....twats! StevO
We have a good away following, but Goodison has been like a library for a long time now. Even the derbies have been quiet. United make a lot of noise and bring a lot of fans, as do Stoke. Most London clubs don't bother, West Ham are probably the exception. I think Fulham brought 13 fans or something rediculous like that last season.

It's happened progressively over the years and isn't going to change unless there's some real change at the club. Even the boozers have gone shit in terms of atmosphere before and after the game, the few that are left are half empty come 1730...the truth is less and less people seem arsed about the match 'day' in general. Sad times indeed. Have Stoke filled their end at goodison yet? They're currently sky's blue eyes in terms of 'bestest fans' replacing Portsmouth who were praised for years because they sang when they got twatted by arsenal one game. It was clear that it was still the novelty period for Portsmouth so they wernt arsed. On the two occasions I've been there the atmosphere was as flat as craven cottage. I don't think goodison is much different than most other premiership stadiums atmosphere, it just depends on where the said club is at in terms of success etc. As it stands things are pretty stale for us at the moment so there's not much spirit or enthusiasm. How many do you reckon tamworth will bring? My money's on the full 6000...i recall Hayes and yeading bringing thousands to anfield and they're pretty much on a par. FanchesterCity
Norwich weren't bad are City Newcastle always bring a lot and quite lively. United has to be discounted (for City) simply because it's a derby so not a normal away presence. Everton usually bring a fair few, but I think the recent mood at Everton has dampened your ardour. Arsenal this year exhibited some nastiness crossing paths with City fans outside the ground - unusual for Arsenal Yep, I'd have to say best away support so far was Norwich (but it was Blackpool last year, and I think it's a new team phenomenon). Bluesky, assuming you went the match before city were loaded how much has your fanbase changed since your new found success? Are all the old faces still going and how many hangers on have suddenly appeared? I image you're starting to get a few out of towners at eastlands (not on a utd or Liverpool scale of course!). Norwich didn't fill their end at goodison so they certainly won't be getting any praise from me. Come to think of it I don't think any team besides utd and Liverpool have yet! MikeO
Best away support I've ever seen at Goodison (although I've not seen as many as most of you) has been in the European games. Greeks and Portuguese in recent years have been amazing.

Eddie_1938
yet they filled Goodison with sound the whole game. Deserves some recognition. Away fans out-sing the home fans 95% of the time at any ground. Norwich singing loud and more frequently than us is exactly what every other clubs fans are going to do at goodison this season. So I'd rather give credit to those fans who actually sell out since they're all going to be making noise.
Avinalaff
None of the away fans in England are as lively as those on the continent. Some of the fans during our Europa exploits were a joy.
pete0
Dont think fans should be awarded on noise alone. Always remember B'burn fans being loud but low in numbers with pointless noise and a drummer worse than a toddler on xmas day making alot of noise. Eddie_1938
No doubt you will have the best away following at goodison this year Alex, I hope you all enjoy it. It's just a shame the ground's going to be half empty! I've got a funny feeling tamworth will leave with some sort of result tomorrow...saying that the standard of football we're playing can't be far off blue square premier standards anyway! Norwich didn't fill their end at goodison so they certainly won't be getting any praise from me. Come to think of it I don't think any team besides utd and Liverpool have yet! That's so hard to say really.... because of the ground move too... that changed a lot of the atmosphere, probably for the worse (initially) but it was necessary looking back now. Right move really. It's the same fans I suppose, deep down, but now more families are coming which is nice to see, and there's a much nicer family atmosphere in general. However.... there ARE a few younger lads (not the kids, but the early 20s lot I'd say) who are simply young lads.... they are getting a taste of success (relatively) and acting like morons. I don't think it's unique to City, I just think it's the nature of young cocky lads supporting a decent team for a change and bragging - without any sense of history or respect. They'll slag off United (like many Evertonians will do with Liverpool and vice versa) which irritates me. You have to give respect to a quality team and just applaud what they've done. Don't have to LIKE them, but you should at least be honest and acknowledge them etc. And, I'm 10 years older too... so I have changed. 90% of City fans are pessimists.... because it's how we've always lived. Time and again, we've messed up. So it's very very hard to change our mentality. In the last year (and only the last year) I think City are finally starting to believe it doesn't HAVE to be that way, and we're gaining in confidence. It's a very new situation for all of us. And this makes me think of Everton, who, for the large part have had a fairly good team for years, and thus Everton fans (generally) have had a more positive mindset and belief in the team. I know there have been iffy patches, but across the last 40 years, Everton have been a 'best of the rest' team. Just outside the very top (4) and loitering in the top 6. For the first time in a long time, I'm sensing Everton fans losing a little belief (with fair reason), and teams being a little less afraid of Everton than they used to be. It takes years to lose your stoic reputation, but it does look to be slipping a bit of late. I'm sure I'll get stick for this, and I accept that the gulf between United and City is bigger then between Liverpool and Everton, BUT I still think there's a lot of commonality between the fans... in the shadow of another club too often, fans that clearly don't choose the team just because they are the winning the league every year etc. Everton have been a better run club than City in the last 40 years, but now it seems City have had some luck and Everton some back luck. It's a new situation for us both. It will take decades for Everton to lose their stature (if ever) and the same for City to (re)gain it (if ever). But underneath it all, it's just a decent sent of football loving fans on both sides, who are subject to the slings and arrows of fortune. Same as it ever was eh? FanchesterCity
oh, one thing I have noticed.... but having never experienced CL before can't compare.... on CL nights, me and my lad have been surrounded by away fans or bloody tourists from Asia (seriously). All three CL home games were the same. Found it quite disturbing and it spoiled it for me.
