In 2003 he moved to the bigger club FC Midtjylland, becoming league top scorer and Player of the Year the following season. In the winter break of the 2004/05 season he was bought by SV Werder Bremen, and scored in his first two appearances. Ahead of the 2005/06 season he was loaned to FSV Mainz 05.
