Mason Holgate

Ye now I think of it he must be close to MoM. Excellent today.

Really?? Got a bit of the ball, but was almost always stationary and playing the ball sideways or back. Passes were poor as well, underhit or just off target. Saw a lot of turnovers coming from him.

Not writing him off, just wasn't impressed today. Although I can say that about whole team today...

He's doing ok as a stand in, but surely everyone can see we miss Seamus massively?

We need a right back, we have done for years. Mason is a centre half doing his best out of position. In the same way Galloway did ok when Baines was out. They look alright because they are still good footballers, but full backs are a specialist position and we need specialists.

He's a hindrance to our attacking play because of this. If we're going to play without width in midfield then we need our full-backs to be excellent going forward. Holgate is nowhere near good enough at that aspect - as has been pointed out he'll get the ball and turn backwards or pass back infield. And the few occasions he does try and run forward with the ball he is dispossessed most times. He did put one cracking ball into the box yesterday but I wouldn't even have him as back-up RB, he'd be back-up to the back-up for me.

This for me

I want to see the lad moved into his natural position, as said he's no RB but he has all the tools to become a very good potentially top center half

I completely agree but knowing Everton we will say he is fine till Seamus recovers and strengthen elsewhere. Vault me on it.

Certainly feel that he has looked his best on the right side of a back three. He is energetic. Gets up and back but sadly does not have the same effect as Coleman in the final third.

Noticed everyone saying he should be playing CB but in no way does he displace Williams for me. Williams has that right sided CB spot on lock when we are using four at the back. Bet Koeman feels the same way and it's why we see Holgate at RB.

I am stoked we have someone so young and versatile in the squad. Getting experience and certainly has room to grow/learn.

It's his natural position it's not to suggest he jumps ahead of anyone but when we are being linked with £20/30m moves for other young CB's when we need cover at RB and possibly LB when we have Holgate who's more than capable imo of filling that void centrally

Jags is knocking on and Mori doesn't fill me with confidence to be honest I'm still not sold on him

Plus most young defender's are played out wide before then get moved centrally its common practice, he's done well but he's no wingback

Yeah, wouldn't fancy him at CH, but should be in at RB now, surely  Koeman can't play coco the clown again.

It's his natural position he's a better option than Cuco the clown at RB but the lad isn't a RB and certainly not a RWB

I'd much rather have him there than Williams with how poor him and Martina have been I'd rather chuck him centrally and start Kenny at RB let the lads gain experience they can't do much worse than the shower of shit we've witnessed thus far although I know it won't happen like
