Morgan Schneiderlin

The BBC gossip thing says prior to the game on Sunday we had talks with Man U over Schneiderlin and Depay.

Yeah I saw that, it also said he might be interested in signing Ashley Young ffs.

First priority should be a top class striker, then a top class goalie, that should see us ok till summer, then we can have a good clear out.

I can't think why we would be interested in signing Young, Depay and Schneiderlin have also been left out of Man U's euro squad which would suggest they are on the move. I do agree with you on one thing Bill, we have to get a new goalkeeper, we could probably find a better option than Stek playing in the local pub leagues round the city if we looked.

Schneiderlin and DePay (along with Darmian) have been left off their Europa League squad which is telling. If Koeman knows him and can use Schneiderlin to his best advantage then it makes even more sense. Would like to see how the long-term look of a putative deal would be, we will need long-term cover in this area with Barry aging and no other stars outside Gana IMO.

at least a loan with first rights to buy outright might be best.

At the end of the day, if we want these players we will have to pay what many people would say is 'over the odds.'

At the end of the season, the league table reflects standings based on points and goal difference - not financial muscle - though there tends to be a close correlation.

This opens up the discussion of cause and effect. Are clubs rich because they are successful or are they successful because they are rich?

My point is very simple. If we want to play in Europe and consistently be successful we have to buy in the talent to get us kick started. The cost is irrelevant because if we don't do it now we will never be successful.

Arsenal and United are rich because they were successful, Chelsea and Man City are successful because they are rich.

Agreed.

And for too long we have been neither.

Now we have a bit of cash we need to get it spent imho. Not foolishly of course but we can't send Moshiri's wallet out on the pitch the next time we hear Z Cars being played. We must transfer some of his cash into quality signings. And, to be honest, if we want to attract players like Virgil, we will have to pay more to get them to come to us than Man City or Arsenal etc would have to pay to get him to join them - for painfully obvious reasons.
