Ian
Right here we go again..... ..................................Howard........................................ ....Neville...........Lescott............Yobo............Valante/Naysmith. ...VDM................Cahill..............Osman.............Arteta......... ...............................AJ.............Beattie........................... Well thats my team, I wasnt sure whether Nuno is fit so Naysmith is the replacement (sadly). Would love to see Victor start but I don't see it happening unfortunatly. VDM and Mikkey could always be swapped around with even Osman occupying the right hand side with Arteta coming inside. Prediction: 3-1 (AJ, Mikkey and Victor to come of the bench to put in the 3rd) COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - NIL SATIS NISI OPTIMUM -
GoldfishMemory
This is my prediction for the starting 11 ..................................Howard........................................ ....Neville...........Lescott............Yobo................Naysmith... ...Davies............Cahill..............Carsley.............Arteta......... ...............................AJ.............Beattie........................... Subs: Dickie, Stubbs, Ossie, VDM, Victor I think we will make hard work of this one but scrape a 1-0 in the seccond half with Vic comming on to show Beats & AJ how its done again! Romey 1878
2-0 Arteta and AJ (Im back to that again ) I think VDM should definitely play, he would rip Watford to shreds IMO

And come on lads, this is Watford we are talking about, it should be at least 4-0. Edited August 16, 2006 by Licker
Adam
Howard Neville, Yobo, Stubbs, Pistone Arteta, Cahill, Osman, Davies AJ, BT Subs: Wright, Lescott, VDM, McFadden, Victor Don't think that Valente is fit and don't think that Lescott is going to start. 3 v 1 with Pistone to score

EFC fan in oz
Someone said it was on ESPN but not on any of our fox channels over here have to look for one of the streaming football sites to watch it. Anyway think we'll win this 2-0 goals from Cahill and Arteta, although i'd love to see Beattie or AJ get a goal. Don't really know alot about Watford so just hope that we can dictate the game and get a win.
fcssl
My prefered team selection... ...........................................Howard........................................ ..........Neville...............Lescott............Yobo................Valente... .......Davies..............Cahill..............Carsley.............Arteta......... .....................................AJ.............Beattie........................... Score prediction? Erm... 3.1 to Everton...hopefully as we need a good start to the season, and positive home victory opening the season, if nothing else but confidence for the following home game! Can't wait! (I am sat with my new season ticket card in my hand...waiting!)

I think like goldfish we'll make hard work of this one and scrape to a 1 niller . AJ to get off the mark fo rme though . Oh happy days are here again .............. MikeO
I've never been happy with starting against promoted teams since 1977 when Forest, who'd just scraped promotion, came to Goodison on the opening day and stuffed us 3-1 (having said that they did go on to win the title and we finished third...settle for a repeat of that though Watford might struggle a bit to keep up their end ). Has to be a win though by at least two goals and AJ must get on the scoresheet so I'll go 3-1..AJ, Arteta and Vic off the bench.
Mac
5 - 1 to the boys, top of the league, for at least one day. AJ hat-trick (25/1 with william hills, a cheeky fiver) and a Cahill brace and a Lescott own goal. I love you all. Mac

java2001e
we were lucky, but even a lucky win is 3 points. the penalty was bad decision, the guy clerly headed the ball away so he was penalised for a great piece of defending. good to see aj and bt teaming up and aj getting his first goal, of many i hope. watford muscled us out of midfield and looked dangerous at times. on the other hand arteta and cahill hit the posts. a great start to the season. but weve got some tough games coming up. blackburn and spurs away and then the auld enemy at home.
Willo
A sh!te performance methinks but 3 points come our way so not complaining and as predicted Aj got off the mark . Always tough against promoted sides on the opening day be it at home or away so however we played 3 points is a fookin good start and long may it continue . Romey 1878
We were really poor tbh. AJ and BT linked up well in the first half but BT faded in the second and needed to be taken off. Anichebe didnt do very much when he came on, Faddy didnt have much to do but won a few balls in the air. Arteta looked totally wasted out on the left because he had to cut inside all the time. Cahill didnt do much tbh, i hardly even noticed him. Yobo looked fucking abysmal, hardly won a ball all game, and I was worried everytime the ball went up our end. Valente was shite, Lescott replaced him at left back and looked totally dodgy and kept forgetting that he wasnt playing centre back. Howard looked really good, im glad we got him. We conceded a poor goal at the end which was very disappointing and Watford ran all over us at times. All in all it was a victory but if we want anything out of the Blackburn game we are going to have to improve massively.

java2001e
i think weve got a lot to look forward to with AJ an BT. and when one or the other goes off the boil weve got anichibe, faddy and who knows, maybe even vaughn just waiting to take their chances. from being our weakest position attack now looks like our strongest. i think watford played well and tried hard to make their mark in their first premiership match. they had most of the possession but they relied too much on muscle. and this showed. when they gotta goal it was virtually scored by one of ours. we were very unucky not to get at least one more, we hit the woodwork twice, but thats just the way it goes. we had our share of misfortune, they had theirs! thats life. theres bound to be times when we come off on the wrong end of a result. overall i think weve got good reason to be optimistic. altho we had less possession we still won and were probably unlucky not to have got at least one more. for all the possession they had watford never looked that threatening. the defence did a good job, and when they did get a shot in howard didnt look troubled. in fact i think howard shows real promise. he probably feels that he's got something to prove and lets hope he proves it. so the first game of the season is under our belt and its a winner. so no real need for whiners! weve gotta couple of tough aways coming up next, blackburn and spurs, and then at home to our next door neighbours. now a win there would be really nice.
