Sibdane
Allan is a solid player, but he doesn’t really fit us. Or maybe it’s the league. Or maybe it’s that his game diminishes with his age, because his game is a very physical one.
Popular Post c1982
I just want Allan and Doucoure to have a run of games together - away from the start of last season they’ve never really had the chance to build any consistency together. He has a lot to prove yet. The only 2 or 3 games we have seen of him in this league he has shown himself to be off the pace. He has a big step up to overcome and I don't see him replacing Allan anytime soon. Lets just hope he has an injury free season to start with. 17 hours ago, Romey 1878 said: I've been quite disappointed with Allan after his first few games for us tbh. I don't think he's been terrible by any stretch, but I thought he'd be better than he's shown if I'm honest. The reports before he signed was that he was getting a bit leggy and it definitely looks that way. I also think the more ground he has to cover the worse he is. It just gives other players that extra yard to get away or around him. I imagine he is great in those small pitch games, covering every blade of grass. I think Allan comes in to his own when we play the 'top' teams. When perhaps we spend a greater part of the game without the ball and within our own half. So a bit like you say, a lot of the game is kind of played on a condensed pitch. As we know with Doucoure, he is just up and down all game - same energy from first minute to the last. Can be forgiven the odd miss placed pass when you work this hard for the team. Goal will have done his confidence the world of good if front of the goal. Allan's shot in the first few mins of the game suggests Benitez is encouraging the midfeilders to have a bit more of a dig. Btay
I’d have no issue with him wearing the armband. Puts everything into every game and I really think we are going to see the best of him this year and hopefully plenty of goals from midfield. The thing I liked the most about the game was just how much we squeezed up the pitch to win those second balls. Doucoure was always the first player on his bike to get forward but Allan was still pressing forward to, just in a more considered fashion because it will take him longer to get back. I imagine Allan has to take two steps to every one of Doucoure's! MikeO and Btay

No surprise Iwobi got the majority but Gray pips James for second.

Aidan
Small sample size admittedly however Doucoures shots per game is 2.3 compared to 0.6 last season. I feel like he's going to be a really important player for us this year and his goals could be invaluable. dunlopp9987
Thought he looked off the pace in the first half but really turned it around in the second. The ball through to Gray was absolute class. Btay

Popular Post Bailey
It felt like that pass was the first completion of the night! What a pass though. You can never argue with the work he does off the ball, he is everywhere, but today was one of those games where the connection between his brain and feet just wasn't there for most of the game. He never let his head drop and kept trying and it paid off. Wiggytop, StevO, Matt and 2 others
Popular Post RuffRob
I think Doucoure is looking to be a cracking bit of business. I think is going to flourish even more under Benitez over this season - looking a better player again as he has been allowed a little more freedom to get forward a bit more. I think he will be a player who is going to benefit from not having to cover for James. His goals could make a massive difference this season - we have been missing goals from midfield for far to long. FairWooney
enjoyed the little piece on him on match of the day, could see just how much he does as a full box to box midfielder now. Having a player who will tackle and win the ball, then can ran forward with it with pace and power, lay it off and carry on forward to stay involved or play a lovely long pass forward is such a valuable asset to the team. I always thought him and Allan sitting in under Ancelloti seemed too limiting on the team in attack but what he's giving us now give us so much all over the pitch and helps us push forward at pace.
