Jean-Philippe Gbamin

Reading the website he seems confident in his abilities. Liked to tackle and likes a pass. Pete will be happy. I think our style might evolve this season

My only fear was we'd try and get some other positionally enept ball chaser. Luckily not many exist in professional football.

Gomes box-to-box this guy shielding the back four. Be nice having a footballer in midfield.

He'll be better a centre half.......

His agent.

"In my opinion, he is a player worth 60 million euros. It’s time for him to play as a centre-back. There he would be a top player in all four major leagues and would make a great career.”

Centre-back has become something of a problem position in itself at Goodison Park, with Phil Jagielka departing for Sheffield United, Yerry Mina still unconvincing and Kurt Zouma heading back to Chelsea after his loan expiry.

His versatility would give Gbamin a real head-start in his Everton career but for him to truly replace Gueye – as is the main function of his signing – fans must be patient and allow the 23-year-old to grow in confidence, adjust to the demands of the Premier League and develop his footballing intelligence.

This is why Delph is such an astute signing. Delph being here allows us to ease Gbamin in as he’ll more than likely take time to adjust to his new life/surroundings.

I think he's been brought in because of his quick transition play. If you watch his highlights videos he almost always plays a forward pass/diagonal immediately after he's made a tackle/interception. He's going to have Bernard and Richarlison to aim for so we should be pretty rapid in the counter next season.

...and Zaha and Kean with Zouma covering him at the back 😉😎

He is the future Gana is the past, from the very little I’ve seen of him he is an improvement, he can tackle maybe not as prolific as Gana was but maybe doesn’t need to be if our retention of the ball is better, for me his passing is far superior so he can win the ball and deliver it, and if his positioning is good as well Gana will be forgotten very quickly.

Gana has gone, if he ends up 75% the player I will be more than happy, as long as we get creativity ahead of him.... which it looks like we’re doing.

Cant wait to see this lad in action. I wanted Lemina to be honest, but the more I read about this lad, the more excited I become. Sounds like another that has the potential (I know we hate that word at Everton) to become an excellent player.

On the videos his positioning looks sound but he might need time to adjust as he'll not get that much time on the ball here to pick a pass after winning the ball, few floaters in the clips that he'd need to play faster or make sure the player is free/there is time for the ball to get there. Much higher tempo in the prem, he might need a season.

Wouldn't mind if we tried him at the back straight away as his positioning looks good enough and he'd get more time in the ball. Can see why his agent is bigging him up for there.

Houston we have a problem.

Just been reading up that his interception rate is even higher than Ganas, which means his positioning is even worse doesn’t it?

Depends how they go about intercepting the ball. Barry done it by reading the game, Gana by running straight at the ball regardless of the situation. Exactly why you need to watch football and can't moneyball it.

More info on J-P,  I've brought it back to the proper thread .....

"Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wanted to sign the 23-year-old defensive midfielder back in January 2018, and wanted to utilise him as a centre-back but Mainz were unwilling to let him go at that time because they were in a relegation fight. As a result, Liverpool looked elsewhere and ended up signing Fabinho instead.

The 23-year-old has a versatility to his game that will make him a very useful member of the squad as he can play all across the backline and in defensive midfield. This will be especially useful considering the ongoing struggle to land Kurt Zouma"

Dont shoot the messenger, I know he was bought as a cdm but just saying he can play as central defender.

I would think it's the other way around. You need to tackle if you fit caught out in the wrong position while intercepting a pass means you were in the right place.

Haven’t you been listening to the Ps for gods sake... you’ve learnt nothing.

Making an interception means you were in the WRONG position! That’s what made Gana so shit.

You need to go back to P school for a few more threads 😉

ATM?! I'm not sure what's made his week bad can be reconciled...

Ha. I’d like to believe that but it would not surprise me if many people explain it away to the point where it doesn’t significantly effect his legacy. I mean sure a lot of the founding fathers owned slaves but it was just a sign of the times, man..
