I like Iwobi. Think he’d be a cracking signing personally. Don’t think it’ll happen though.

I’m not alone then. Not seen much of him but when I’ve seen him play, he’s always looked a handful and works hard.

As per others, Everton £30m bid for Alex Iwobi rejected. Made to Arsenal today & knocked back. Expected to return with improved offer but likely need £40m+ to be accepted. 23yo not agitating but would go if deal agreed. #EFC interest recent & is in addition to Wilfied Zaha #CPFC

So Iwobi is in addition to Zaha?

35 apps 3 goals 7 assists.  that is not 30m return, we got bernard for free and he had similar stats.  nathan redmond similar stats he ain't worth 30m.

That are poor stats, although he was the only Arsenal player to look dangerous when we beat them at Goodison this season, with his age he might be worth a punt, is he left footed mainly?

Very tricky with the ball from what I know and good at driving it forward. The knock is that he lacks end product but at 23 it's still quite possible he could develop there. I see on the Arsenal forum that many people think he'd be good as a 10. Given that we are linked to Doucoure and that we are apparently pursuing Zaha AND Iwobi I wonder if he's seen as competition/eventual replacement for Siggy as opposed to a full-time winger. Silva seems to value versatility very highly.

Im a bit of a fence sitter with him. I think he improved a lot last year and started to look as though he was maturing as a footballer but £30million is a LOT of money.

I think its clear we are after someone who can beat a man and be direct when looking at the bids for both him and Zaha but I know I would much rather have the latter.

I guess the question is would you rather have Iwobi and 40m or so? The net impact may be greater w/ the extra money.

I guess that depends on what £40mil can buy you... Im not sure these days!

My view would be that we were more likely to break the top 6 with Zaha than we would with Iwobi. I don't know how much extra that would get us in prize money and TV revenue (including Europa).

About 15 of those appearances were as sub, so figures not that bad. Still want Zaha tho!

What about the defence?

Holgate, Mina, Keane, Gbamin worst case. Maybe an opportunity for one of the kids to get a chance? Not ideal but could be worse. Hoping it’s Keane and Holgate as the starting pair though I doubt it.

Definitely not Rojo though, deal fell through at the last minute (again) :yay:

35m is a joke for this guy.  he's worse than walcott and walcott cost us 20m.  not happy with this

Definitely don't agree. Walcott is a pace merchant who has used his speed to beat players his entire career. I'm not a fan of Iwobi per se, but he definitely has more technique than Walcott.

just seen he's only 23 years old, that's the silver lining i'm holding onto, he will grow into a nice player.  cause when i watched him last year he was anonymous, hoping to be proved very wrong

Arsenal opinions seem pretty divided. I think they all recognize his talent but he apparently lacks some end product. Quite a few think he could be a good #10. He definitely will add creative flair. This will come down to whether that will ultimately result in production. Not there yet but at 25 or 26 who knows.

...they were pretty shit against us at Goodison! Not a great persuader that one Matthew!!!

I knew someone was going to say that. I’ll rephrase, he was the only one I was worried about when they played at Goodison. Came on and gave us something to actually worry about for 20mins.

£40m according to the BBC. Bit steep...

He's hit and miss from what I've seen, but that's not atypical for wingers.  Could say the same about any of our wingers. It's a position where you need to have options so you can insert whoever is hot at moment.  35 I think will be the upfront price, and that's not absurd in this market.  It's the 8m of 5 years ago.  Not sure about his wages though, just hope he's not put at the top of the pile.

🤣🤣🤣 Playing with you.

It is a steep price but, again, the market is chaotic and I doubt us fans will ever get our heads around It!
