Born in Yorkshire of Jamaican descent, Mr Williams was a professional footballer for Doncaster Rovers before moving into show business. The first black comedian to make the big time on British TV, he was best known for appearing on Granada's The Comedians and later went on to host the Golden Shot game show." he used to say of his footballing exploits for doncaster rovers, 'i werent very good, but i was good enough to stop them that were'!
