Breaking news on SSN that we're in talks for him now.

Merson stating what most of us think…. When he is at it and making runs from midfield then he is a very good player.

he more than likely needs a fresh start and get away from the London scene. Lampard will be the type of ex player to get a tune from him I think.

I've never been a fan of him tbh but if we sign him I'll be hoping he proves me wrong. We need a success story with a midfielder.

Good call!

As I posted in the Zakaria thread, if Juve can get him for €5m and Sevilla getting Tecatito for €2m, we should be able to get Dele for close to that same price.

But it's Spurs, so it'll probably be £35m

They were both impending free agents (I know Zakaria was, didn't look at Tecatito but have to assume) so nominal fees to cover the next few months so they weren't lame ducks. But I agree if history is any indication we'll pay more than we should.

At only 25, he could resurrect his career to what it was when he broke into the scene. If people are forgetting how good he was here is what he managed in his seasons at Spurs in the league alone:

15/16 (28 starts, 5 subs) - 10 G / 9 A

16/17 (35, 2) - 18 / 7

17/18 (34, 2) - 9 / 10

18/19 (22, 3) - 5 / 3

19/20 (21, 4) - 8 / 4

20/21 (7, 8 ) - 0 / 1

21/22 (8, 2) - 1 / 0

If, and it is a big if, Lampard can get a tune out of him, he will be the midfielder we have been crying out for for years.

Well that's a deal which shows you how ridiculous financial laws are.

No questioning his potential ability. Its all about attitude, and that's my concern. However, his apparent arrogance might be exactly what we need at the moment, in that he'll have a point to prove and that confidence may rub off. More I think about it, more it makes sense. Just have massive doubts about his head.

Depending on how the £40M is structured, I think basically it's a 6 month loan without being a loan. We would need to sell him or let him rot.

Yeah if the £10m is after 20 games, the rest of the £30m could be heavily performance based which isn't an issue.

Surely the 20 games clause is not just for this season. We're not smart enough to be able to slip something like that in there.

Come to think of it, feels like that's something that could easily be slipped past us on a deal without anyone in the front office noticing 😑

No it's 20 games full stop but he won't breach that mark this year so we won't have to pay it until next year. We will pay for it with all the wages we save (Gylfi, Cenk etc)

The way the deal is structured is to help us get around FFP rules this season. I heavily suspect that means that these other conditions will be quite heavy the following year(s).

His wages etc are going to be huge as well.

To me this feels a bit like Siggy. I suspect it will be a fairly sizeable fee even if he doesnt do anything special and the money he will be on will be up there with our highest earners.

As a player, he isn't for me. I watched him for Spurs recently and he didn't look good at all. He was ropey, a bit like a 35 year old not 25.

Id have faith that Lampard knows how he wants to use him (and VDB) and there is no doubt that Alli will get goals. A bit like Cahill, all his other weaknesses as a footballer, are balanced by his ability to get into the box and score important goals.

I can definitely see the appeal but Lampard is basically saying he can get more out of Alli than Mourinho, Nuno and Conte. Which is bold to say the least!
