There's a common theme to this summer's recruits: They all genuinely seem to want to be here. That's not been evident from some current players on the pitch, so it's a healthy thing to see.

Well when you consider the clubs they're from, they should be. Everton is the biggest club these players will have played for, and it doesn't get much bigger than us unless it's BARCA/REAL/PSG/etc.

When you bring in players who so obviously aren't good enough they do tend to thank their lucky stripes for an opportunity to showcase that fact while getting good money ;).

I'd rather them thank their luck stars, but whatever.

Turns out the rich owner we all wished for brought us nothing different than what we already had.  Moshiri will be a winner because of Bramley Moore, sadly he still has a ton of work to do on the pitch to be revered.

while moshri hasn't taken us to the promised land we had hoped for, to say that we don't have anything better than what we had before is laughable.

Debt is not a bad thing. Well-run companies utilize debt, and it's usually a positive when publishing financial results. It doesn't sound like our debt is crippling.

More relevant to Everton right now are the FFP rules. Poor decisions by previous managers (and I mean managers, not DoF) continue to bite us. Koeman spent very unwisely. Crooked Sam is responsible for other awful decisions. We have no option but to live with them, unfortunately.

It wouldn’t be a positive if you were a shareholder looking for a decent dividend.

If you’re looking for a dividend don’t invest in a football club.

Debt on the balance sheet doesn’t have to mean no profit and no dividend though.

Sure it would. A debt/equity ratio of zero is generally not good financial management. A 50:50 ratio is just fine, even in the football business. MUFC's ratio hovers around 1.23, for example.

Steve wasn’t talking solely about football clubs he was talking about all companies.

You’re right we blew 200m so we have that debt

We don’t have 200M of debt either.

You can’t look at debt on the balance sheet in isolation without comparing it to what you are also owed. Net Liabilities would be one way to look at it…that is if you didn’t want to take assets into account.

Just for anyone who doesn't understand that debt isn't necessarily bad, here's Nestles total debt; $40b.

Yet they're considered one of the most profitable and successful companies around. 🤔

My dad's first job after he finished National Service in the early fifties was for Nestlé, pleased to see they recovered😂

Aaah, that old chestnut. Not true but anyway, point was to show that having a lot of debt does not equate poor, nor is it a bad thing.

Just curious,  which big company isn't an evil planet destroying force that I can look up the debt of?

its 100% true, they destroyed a massive land preserve in michigan.  the government wouldn't sell them the land so they bought land next to it and sucked all the water out of the ground, preserve is a wasteland now.  to your point of big corporations yes i agree they are all evil, i'm not a capitalist.

You couldn’t pick a worse company in the world as a shining example of a good business, unless you are a hardened capitalist who puts profits be for lives. Please read ZME Science report on why Nestle is one of the the most hated companies in the world, it cannot bear to shock you unless you are a raving capitalist or arsehole, great example of companies with huge debt operate to keep shareholders happy and the company afloat.
