He could be a legend here.

I hope so, but with the qualities he has I really can't see him staying here for long. Some top clubs will be sniffing around. The question is, how long can we keep him here for.

He was alright, I suppose...

Nah, he was superb. All over the pitch and constantly trying to get the crowd going as well.

The obvious player of the game. He was everywhere, winning balls out of nowhere, matching his height and strength with speed, demonstrating creativity and cleverness, and showing up all over the field. I really like how he moved further up the field, sometimes seeming to be a partner to DC-L. What a player he's going to become.

he’s gonna fly under dyche.  Dyche must be seriously disbelieving his eyes seeing a lad this young, mobile, physically dominant turn up to training. No disrespect to Burnley, they never had a player like this lad.

He's said that he's going to get Defour to speak to him and teach him.

And show him the dirty side of the game.

I can’t be this optimistic about Everton after just one game, but if he can get some more nasty into him and some more quality on the ball, well, he’ll probably leave, but I’ll enjoy it until then.

Unbelievable performance today!

Sound, the lad was captain of Liège at 19 and skippered them to title, SAF rated him big time till his injury and wanted him, We were linked with him and got felli.

played in the prem when he was past his best and was a smart player. He was patched up but still Burnley’s best player by a mile.

Buzzing for him, only 21. At that age, I was dropping pills and speed. What were you upto?! Sometimes it has been too easy to forget this kid has moved to another country, settled into a new league AND played for Everton during a nightmare period. I think the critics have been too harsh too soon. BUT he can become an icon, he has that presence and attitude. Hopefully we keep pace with his development.

It was almost like he was allowed to express himself yesterday. That burst of pace and run down the line came from nowhere! Didn’t realise he had that acceleration. Then he showed technical ability with a little pirouette.
This lad is Infectious.

He glided while others sprints, it’s seriously impressive watching him move at such ease yet so fast. Sort of player that can single handily dominate a midfield.

The way he glides around Odegaard at 2 minutes is brilliant, he stands no chance of catching him up. It's like when you see Bolt running, it almost looks effortless and that he has another gear left. Hope we can keep him fit 🤞

Frankly, he hardly put a foot wrong for the entire game. It was a brilliant performance from him.

Thelwell (and Lampard) deserve some credit for bringing this lad in. He is already looking a bargain, great both on and off the pitch.

I think you should have mentioned Martinez in that as well, he by all accounts helped steer the lad in our direction, by telling Lampard all about his abilities, then telling Onana what a great club we are and that it would be a good move him.
And all this after he was shit on by Moshiri, just proves once you have been touched by Everton the love for the club remains with you forever.

So uh.........besides his physicality and work rate......what does he offer? Thought his passing was poor and the two shots he had were atrocious

I agree with all of this but the thing that most annoyed me with him tonight was how passive he was. On three occasions he received the ball and had an open field for him to run into, and instead he moved slowly forward with it for a couple of paces and then passed it off.

FFS, he's a gangly bastard and if he went forward with any sort of intent he'd be away from the opposition players before they even knew what was happening.

Wonder if he's been given instructions from Dyche that run counter to him making those drives forward? Remember seeing those types of impressive bursts forward at the beginning of the season.

Though his tackle did set up Gana for a great opportunity.
I think he is instructed to sit and protect if I’m honest. A young lad who needs that little something to give him a spark.

His shots were tame, but at least he managed to get a couple of shots in and on target. Steps.

Me too, he backed out of a couple of tackles that he could and should have won, late in the game when we were attacking on the left side in particular. Hopefully it is the managers instructions he’s playing to, but he’s got more in his locker than we’re are seeing.

Too lazy for me gets caught too often only time I seen him put real effort in was when we went down to 10 men.
he thinks he’s better than he is it annoys me when he starts trying to get the fans up and he’s ponsing around midfield

A team that’s played 29 games and only scored 23 goals needs midfielders who can strike the ball and contribute with some goals.

Put Keano in mid then!

Keano Keano scores when he wants.

I think with how high Doucoure has been pushing I wouldn’t be surprised if he is shackled a bit.

I would like to see him go in to Doucoure’s role with Garner coming in to move quickly forward.

I sometimes feel like I’m watching different players than everyone else… the kid is 21 and is already winning midfield battles consistently in his first season in the league… does he have areas of weakness? Of course! But at his age he’s already fighting this relegation battle with everything he has and frequently overwhelms more established players with his size and athleticism. Maybe you can say he has too high an opinion of himself but to me he’s been massive for us.

Agreed. In a normal trajectory he would be getting 40 minutes or so and being mentored, he has to learn on the job.  I’m concerned at the number of fans starting to pick at him.

he will be an outstanding player without question, he’s a year older than Lewis Warrington who is out on loan.

looking forward to seeing James garner come in.

I think he's shown glimpses of what he can do, but I wouldn't even pick him out as having been one of our top 5 players in a pretty poor season.

Don't get me wrong, those glimpses have been very good and are cause for optimism (if we don't sell him this summer) but there have been more times when he's raising his arms to get the crowd going than anything he's done on the pitch.

Most fans don’t see what managers see.
Our midfield controlled a top five team Monday night.
The manager will see this as they look for what matters in the professional world. A lot of fans won’t get the give and go’s, or the recycling.

But they will start appreciating once he relaxes a bit and begins to express himself.

I don't see him being world class with the technique he has. Even someone like Kante, who is known for his energy and defensive ability is technically sound and makes so many good decisions on the ball.

I also don't think he dominates midfield. Under Lampard we were getting run through left, right and centre, it is Dyche coming in and the combination of the 3 in midfield that has made our midfield much stronger.

I really don't see a midfielder of that type going for £100mil. I know Fernandez has recently but that is just Chelsea being idiots. Rodri went for ~£60mil and I think that will be his type of limit but he still has to improve a lot to get anywhere near that level.

He’s got a few areas he needs to polish up but at his age that’s more than expected. I’m saying that there’s a few things he is very good at. It’s his first season of proper first team football in the most competitive league - I think he has set a good benchmark and hope he continues to grow.

The team & Onana would benefit from the 3rd midfielder being able to use the ball more effectively. Gueye & Onana can win it back no issues but then need to either lay it off to someone (Garner hopefully) to pick passes or Onana to drive forward.

The only issue I have with him is we don’t see this enough. If he could just run forward when he gets the ball, even just ten yards, we would win so many free kicks as he would just be fouled to stop him getting away.

Completely agree mate, we’ve seen a couple this season (Villa & city i think?) but would love to see him do it more often.

He was the one that let McTominay just run off him but so many players could have stopped that first goal in the build up (including Onana). It was a real mess of a goal to concede.

It’s really hard to track a runner in that situation when you’re actually playing. It was just a cluster fuck and a great through ball in a tight area.

I massively disagree with that. The lad runs right in front of him and not even that quickly. He just has to stay tight but he switches off, gets caught ball watching and gives him a couple of yards.

He does the same (ball watching) earlier in the build up too, just before he fails with the (unnecessary) slide tackle.

Its really poor defensive discipline.

Yeah Match of the Day highlighted this whole sequence. He was also guilty of running lethargically back from midfield when the ball went out wide.

No more crying for this fella to start please.

Contributed fuck all today and I'll be happy just to get our money back on him whatever league we're in.

Get him some pom poms so he can stand with Coady on the touchline because cheerleading is more his forte.

There’s been flashes of a top player but we’ve not seen them recently - very poor today. Thankfully, I think the highlight reel will bring us a healthy profit in the summer.

Same again yesterday, he was the main cause of anger around where I sit. I’d be happy to move him on if there’s profit and reinvest in a more consistent player which we need atm.
