So the club briefed journalists it was getting done…. Yet the lad played for Ajax in the last game.

are the club trying to falsely give fans hope to stop any negative noise at home games?

smacks of the sort of shit we have seen before.  Approaching our 4/5 games of the season without a fit and viable striker. Absolutely disgraceful

Unlikely, it would be a PR disaster, Ajax are tough negotiators so maybe a tactic or chance to say goodbye.

Patience is needed.

You seem to have more trust in our club than I do.  PR disaster is what we do,

A chance to say goodbye?? This is not Little House on the Prairie, LB! We're a no bullshit, business-savvy, well-oiled corporate machine f'in joke. No way would we let others scupper the deal.

This deal is not going to happen, I fear.

But I do admire your optimism!

If it was a marquee signing I would be more in agreement with you, but this is a lad that has barely played many games for Ajax's first team. Anyone getting too hopeful of him coming in are probably getting a little carried away.

I think people need to, panic more, or maybe be less patient, but certainly have an over simplified view of the transfer market.

Or people could just wait, we do not know who we have approached, or what has been agreed, Everton tend to do business in private and not leak. The information we have comes from so called ITK's, which is quite unreliable. We need to wait until after the transfer window to judge, we don't know what other clubs' or agents are involved or how. We are operating with imperfect information, and acting or forming opinions based on imperfect information rarely leads to sound conclusions.

Could well be. Gets a load of shit on grand old team.  ITKs always seem to get it…. People crave inside info but ridicule people who give it to them.

This is far too measured, proportionate and sensible!!! I much prefer the hysterical, reactionary, ill-thought out venting of spleen that has served me so admirably since 1973.

Your last line is an admirable summary, though - almost judge-like! 😉

Let’s just say it as it is…..  we are playing games of football and are not scoring goals and we have played 2 teams we should have beaten…. We are doing this without a critical component - a striker.

it’s farcical absolutely farcical. We don’t have the luxury of time, we knew we needed a striker in June… and Murphy’s law then means having just one fit viable option means we get them injured doesn’t it.

we are pissing away points, pressure is mounting and clubs will have us where they want us.

He always has been. He’s a known journo with strong links to club.

He’s not though is he? He’s just a fella that copies and posts and for some reason people lap it up. He’s got a contact rumoured to be his brother who is an accountant at the club

I’m pretty certain the only accountant at the club is Moshiri. Or we wouldn’t be in this mess.

How can this explain how accurate his stuff is?  Starting line ups, injuries, the toffeetv lads and a few others have vouched for him.

If he's being fed and passing on privileged information then he, and whoever is feeding him, need to be binned by the club asap.

They managed to keep the Onana move away from him because he didn’t have a scooby that was happening until it was broken elsewhere, so he can’t be that clued up really.

I don't really understand this move at all.  Seems like a total punt on potential.  He's a second stringer in the Dutch league.  How's he meant to come over the PL and get us scoring goals?

I guess he would be brought for the potential.

We can’t afford to buy top players, and if we had the money… can’t attract them as a club. So we need to be able to bring in players that have the potential to turn into top players.

What he said. We are not getting the finished product. The only way we are getting really high end talent at this point  is bringing it through the academy or taking a gamble before a true breakout.

It’s the complete opposite to the transfer strategy we’ve used the last 5 years that got us in this mess. Try to buy these players before they become big money and at worst we should get some money back because they are young enough.

Oh I get that, and wholeheartedly approve. As long as that is the idea here then great. But we’re are desperate for first team goals and I don’t see this lad being anywhere near double figures out the blocks.

Well he’s a midfielder. Shouldn’t expect double figure goals from any midfielder really.

Like Onana he looks to have some tantalizing upside. I’ll be disappointed if we can’t get this one through.

This would be a shame. Hard for us to attract players of this talent level at the moment. Might have taken some time but I think this would be a coup. I suppose, at worst, we’d have a bit of a leg up if he’s available in future windows.

United are close to agreeing a deal for Antony, so this deal looks to be dead in the water.

If they get that amount of money, he'll still be on his way. Ajax can get 2-3 quality players in for that.

He only played a handful of minutes again today. Sign him or not, he isnt going to come here and make an instant impact. He will be one for the future.

If you read into the politics behind it, apparently Ajax tend to have a bias to Dutch players and there are a few in his position. Many of their fans believe this lad should play far more.  Not sure if it’s true but a few said it on twitter

It didnt seem to be a problem for the likes of Antony, Martinez, Haller Tagliafico. I am sure there are plenty of others too.

It sounds a bit too conspiracy theory for me.

From my experience in the Netherlands, they are very nationalistic so I'm not surprised.
