Joe
I am reading a book called Our Stolen Future by Theo Colborn. It is a book about different pollutants in this world and the effects they have. It is interesting but a bit scary. Some of the things I would rather not know about. Dunny the Blue
I ve heard a few mention the danny wallace books are pretty good. Whats the general gist of them? Basically there travel books, but not in the conventional sense, "yes man" is basically self descovery, he realises he's saying no to everything, friends, family, oppertunities. Randomly some blke on a bus tell him to "say yes more" and so he does and its just the stry of it. Basically just sets himself challenges. "join Me" was an actual journey, to try and gain a "collective" of 1000 people, in memory of his uncle. His books are realy well written, really funny and by the end, really inspiring!! "Are you Dave Gorman" is a great read aswell!!

jamiemaher85
on my travles i have been reading quite a bit so ill mention a few of the good ones:- re-read Danny Wallas- Yes Man. as mentioned on this thread before the man is a genius. Burmese Days- By George Orwell. very good book and if you liked 1984 or Animal Farm is worth a read. Godfather- Mario Puzo.- seen the film so many times and it is very interesting to read the original novel. its brilliant by the way. Ninteen Seventy Four- by David Peace. A crime novel about 1970's Leeds and a child killer. Bit fucked up but very good. First They Killed My Father by Loung Oung. A memoir by a Cambodian whose family where killed by the Kmer Rouge (Pol Pots Army) in the 1970's. Very unsettleing but worth checkig out. and at the moment i have just started The Silent Assasin by Margret Atwood.

MikeO
Inspired by the "Illusion" thread I had to dip into Catch-22 (7th on the top 100 list...if you've not read it, then do!) which is where the "..see everything twice" bit came from. This cracks me up every time I read it.. The leader of this team of doctors was a dignified, solicitous gentleman who held one finger up directly in front of Yossarian and demanded, 'Hoe many fingers do you see?' 'Two,' said Yossarian. 'How many fingers do you see now?' asked the doctor, holding up two. 'Two,' said Yossarian. 'And how many now?' asked the doctor, holding up none. 'Two,' said Yossarian. The doctor's face wreathed with a smile. 'By jove, he's right,' he declared jubilantly. 'He does see everything twice.' They rolled Yossarian away on a stretcher into the room with the other soldier who saw everything twice and quarantined everyone else in the ward for another fourteen days. 'I see everything twice!' the soldier who saw everything twice shouted when they rolled Yossarian in. 'I see everything twice!' Yossarian shouted back at him just as loudly, with a secret wink. 'The walls! The walls!' the other soldier cried. 'Move back the walls!' 'The walls! The walls!' Yossarian cried. 'Move back the walls!' One of the doctors pretended to shove the walls back. 'Is that far enough?' The soldier who saw everything twice nodded weakly and sank back on his bed. Yossarian nodded weakly too, eyeing his talented roomate with great humility and admiration. He knew he was in the presence of a master. His talented roomate was obviously a person to be studied and emulated. During the night, his talented roomate died, and Yossarian decided that he had followed him far enough. 'I see everything once!' he cried quickly. A new group of specialist came pounding up to his bedside with their instruments to find out if it was true. 'How many fingers do you see?' asked the leader, holding up one. 'One.' The doctor help up two fingers. 'How many fingers do you see now?' 'One.' The doctor held up ten fingers. 'And how many now?' 'One.' The doctor turned to the other doctors with amazement. 'He does see everything once!' he exclaimed. 'We made him all better.' Edited May 23, 2007 by MikeO
