Louis Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 ccrington Stanley v Torquay United - FREE ADMISSION Accrington Stanley Football Club are delighted to announce that there will be no admission charge for entry to Saturday's home match against Torquay United, with the aim of attracting a bumper crowd to boost the side in what has been described as the biggest game in the club's history. Speaking about the decision Stanley Chairman Eric Whalley said "Saturday was obviously disappointing because we came away empty handed from Swindon, however it was always going to be difficult to take something from that game in particular. What made it more frustrating was that the other teams around us all picked up points. Now our focus turns to Saturday's match against Torquay, the first of five remaining home games this season. There has been some unrest in recent weeks for one reason or another, but now it is essential that we all pull together and unite behind the team. We are all Stanley supporters and we all want what is best for the football club." Reiterating his comments last week Eric continued Unfortunately we cant afford to follow the Premiership and slash our ticket prices week in week out as our gate revenue is a much higher portion of our turnover without the television millions that go into the game at the top level. However we hope that this gesture will be seen as us making a real effort to draw everyone together in these last couple of months. It has been a real rollercoaster ride in recent years, fortunately with more ups than downs, however it is at times like these that we must stand together and be strong. The Torquay match is perhaps the biggest ever in our history, as the League Two bottom side visit the Fraser Eagle Stadium, it is essential that we make our home ground a true fortress. Further details regarding which turnstiles to use etc will be released shortly. Quote
