Louis Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 An early morning fire that spread through several blocks of a city in the Philippines left more than 6,000 people homeless Saturday. The blaze was reported at about 3 a.m. in Mandaluyong City near Manila, ABS-CBN News reported. Firefighters said they had trouble getting equipment to the fire through the narrow lanes of the area. Officials said the fire spread fast because many houses are built too close together. Extinguishing the blaze took about five hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation, the report said. Authorities say that an electrical problem may have started it. The city gymnasium and two schools have been converted into temporary shelters. Quote
