Premier League Trivia

Just reading up on some prem league history I was interested to see that in the first ever Saturday of Prem matches in 1992 only eleven players in the starting line-ups were foreign...ie non British or Irish. Didn't give a list of who they were though...any ideas?

John Jensen and Anders Limpar started for Arsenal.

Efan Ekoku was at Norwich...born in England but played for Nigeria, so he may be one but I don't know if he played on the opening day.

Hans Segers was at Wimbledon, Andrei Kanchelskis at Manure.

We had Bob the Pole and Preki (Warchycha and Radosavljevic) in the squad...

...help me out here someone :) .

Was Eric Cantona not one?

Good call he probably was. Started the season at Leeds before going to Manure in November, though again don't know if he was in the starting line-up on day one.

Just came across the full answer to this by accident....if anyone's interested. Apparently it was ten starters and twelve in total..

At the start of the Premiership in 1992, just 10 players in the starting lineups for the first weekend were foreign – John Jensen, Anders Limpar (both Arsenal), Eric Cantona (Leeds United), Michel Vonk (Manchester City), Peter Schmeichel, Andrei Kanchelskis (both Manchester United), Gunnar Halle (Oldham Athletic), Jan Stejskal (QPR), Roland Nilsson (Sheffield Wednesday) and Hans Segers (Wimbledon). Robert Warzycha (Everton) and Ronnie Rosenthal (Liverpool) came on as substitutes
