MikeO Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 Just reading up on some prem league history I was interested to see that in the first ever Saturday of Prem matches in 1992 only eleven players in the starting line-ups were foreign...ie non British or Irish. Didn't give a list of who they were though...any ideas? Quote
thebluenose Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 thats just mad considering the amount of foreign players in the prem. my dad keeps telling me he remembers a time when he could count all the foreign players on one hand IN THE WHOLE LEAGUE Quote
MikeO Posted April 17, 2007 Author Report Posted April 17, 2007 (edited) John Jensen and Anders Limpar started for Arsenal. Efan Ekoku was at Norwich...born in England but played for Nigeria, so he may be one but I don't know if he played on the opening day. Hans Segers was at Wimbledon, Andrei Kanchelskis at Manure. We had Bob the Pole and Preki (Warchycha and Radosavljevic) in the squad... ...help me out here someone . Edited April 18, 2007 by MikeO Quote

Bill Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Ricky Villa, Ozzie Ardiles, Jurgen Klinsman, Dennis Bergkamp. ???? Quote
MikeO Posted April 18, 2007 Author Report Posted April 18, 2007 Klinsmann is one..Villa and Ardilles had long gone by then although Ardilles was back at Spurs as manager. Bergkamp didn't join the Arse 'til '95. Quote
TrueBlue Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 Sorry for the extremely late reply but oly just spotted it. Was Eric Cantona not one? Quote
MikeO Posted May 4, 2007 Author Report Posted May 4, 2007 Was Eric Cantona not one? Good call he probably was. Started the season at Leeds before going to Manure in November, though again don't know if he was in the starting line-up on day one. Quote
TrueBlue Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 Yeah thats why I wasn't sure if he would have been one. Ndlovu was also at Conventry City during the '92 season. Quote
MikeO Posted May 6, 2007 Author Report Posted May 6, 2007 was Bilic @ West Ham ? Not til '96 Pat. Quote
MikeO Posted November 18, 2007 Author Report Posted November 18, 2007 (edited) Just came across the full answer to this by accident....if anyone's interested. Apparently it was ten starters and twelve in total.. At the start of the Premiership in 1992, just 10 players in the starting lineups for the first weekend were foreign – John Jensen, Anders Limpar (both Arsenal), Eric Cantona (Leeds United), Michel Vonk (Manchester City), Peter Schmeichel, Andrei Kanchelskis (both Manchester United), Gunnar Halle (Oldham Athletic), Jan Stejskal (QPR), Roland Nilsson (Sheffield Wednesday) and Hans Segers (Wimbledon). Robert Warzycha (Everton) and Ronnie Rosenthal (Liverpool) came on as substitutes Edited November 18, 2007 by MikeO Quote
