Zed Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 And this must be the hardest run in we could have With Chelsea and manure having it all to play for, Pompy pushing for Europe and west ham fighting for their lives and playing us in a REAL must win game for them Despite my usual optimism Im seriously doubting well hang on to 5th or 6th If we do it will be amazing, but one things for sure it beats boring mid table/nothing to play for football and certainly beats being where west ham are COME ON YOU BLUES Quote
Mac Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 As said in the West Ham thread Z, I feel we have the team to get us into Europe, and I can't see anyway we can fail. Royal blue glasses are firmly on. ATB Mac Quote
Blue 250 Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 West Hams must win at all costs can make them hard or easy to play against.......their passion may be hard to combat, they will throw them selves at every ball!!There by letting their hearts rule their heads......step forward a cool calculating Moyes! Can see West Ham making it a physical game, plenty of Everton free kicks.......Arteta.......to the free scoring Lescott.....GOAL!! Hard fought points against Man U and Chelsea! And a home win against Portsmouth......Well you didn't think there was only one pair of Royal Blue Glasses in the world... ....Did you! Quote
BLUE-TAC Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 Can see: west ham 0, efc 1 efc 1, manu 1 efc 2, ports 0 chels 3, efc 1 EASY! Quote
thebluenose Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 i reckon if we beat west ham and pompey. i reckon thatl be enough to be either 5th or 6th. if we can get points off united or chelski then thatl be a great bonus Quote
Bluetrip Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 (edited) I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous about the run in. The Portsmouth game is a must win for us. Bolton Chelsea (h) Sunday, 22 April West Ham (h) Sat 5 May Villa (a) Sun 13 May Reading Newcastle (h) Mon 30 May Watford (h) Sat 5th May Blackburn (a) Sun 13th May Tottenham Middlesbrough (h) Sat 28 Apr Charlton (h) Mon 7th May Blackburn (a) Thu 10 May Man City (a) Sun 13 May Portsmouth Villa (h) Sun 22 Apr Liverpool (h) Sat 28 Apr Everton (h) Sat 5 May Arsenal (a) Sun 13 May Edited April 21, 2007 by Bluetrip Quote
Joe Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 I am very nervous as well. Both Reading and Tottenham have a favorable schedule. Pompey's schedule will be tough which makes our match with them even more important. We could be looking at 8th or 9th if those other teams pick up points and we don't. We need atleast a win against Portsmouth and hopefully a point against either Chelsea or Utd. Quote
Romey 1878 Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 It's gone from looking reasonably comfortable to very difficult with just one goal. Well we are Everton so it's only to be expected we'll go about it the hard way. Quote
Dunny the Blue Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 there is no question that without a win from the Pompey game the passports can be out back in the drawer!! Hate to say it but I have no faith in beating any of our next oponents, all I can hope is that they pull there fingers out and play for EVERTON FOOTBALL CLUB, not just the pay cheque! Quote
Joe Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 We need a good run hopefully having as many players available as possible. We also need some help from other clubs who are playing against the likes of Bolton, Tottenham, Reading and Pompey. Quote
Bill Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 I dont think there is a problem KEEP YOUR PASSPORTS AT THE READY. Bolton, Spurs and Ourselves will finish 5 - 6 - 7 Doesnt matter in what order cos Top seven all play in Europe. Bolton play Chelsea next, we have a little cushion between Pompey and Reading and a better goal difference. Quote
Dunny the Blue Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 Its a poor do when youve got to rely on other results for our own benefit!! We should have been capable of doin it on our own but it appears not to be the case! Quote
Mac Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 Ian, I will take it any way I can get it mate. ATB Mac Quote
rozzie22 Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 looking at these fixtures, id be worried if i was a dirty bolton fan Bolton Chelsea (a) Sunday, 22 April West Ham (h) Sat 5 May Villa (a) Sun 13 May Reading Newcastle (h) Mon 30 May Watford (h) Sat 5th May Blackburn (a) Sun 13th May Tottenham Middlesbrough (a) Sat 28 Apr Charlton (a) Mon 7th May Blackburn (h) Thu 10 May Man City (h) Sun 13 May Portsmouth Villa (a) Sun 22 Apr Liverpool (h) Sat 28 Apr Everton (a) Sat 5 May Arsenal (h) Sun 13 May i think reading have an easy run in but the rest of teams, including us, our really up against it if we beat pompey, we will finish top 7 and thats all that matters Quote
Pat Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 @ Least results went somewhat our way 2 day. Quote
Joe Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 @ Least results went somewhat our way 2 day.Very true. If you would have told me earlier in the year that we would be in 5th place going into the last 3 matches ( which I knew would be toughest stretch) I would have been excited. This is the (realistic) position that we want to be in with three games left. We just need to go out, play well and pick up as many points as possible. Quote
rozzie22 Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 fully agree im backing Aston Villa today and hopefully they can do us a favour 5th with 3 games to go is (2 home games aswell) is a reason to be confident if you look at the teams around us only reading are playing well and stringing results together. bolton are playing badly and losing games, pompey cant win away from fratton park and spurs are shipping goals all over the place europe here we come imo come on daveys blue army !! Quote
Zed Posted April 22, 2007 Author Report Posted April 22, 2007 Yes. results pretty much went our way yesterday and you cant win them all Weve been on a realy good run of late and a new wham would be difficult as I said previously, its exciting to be involved at this stage of the season, theres nothing worse than going the game and your 10th with nothing to play for, im sure the players feel the same Quote
Dunny the Blue Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 I acted abit irationally yesturday, we totally dont have to rely on others! If we play to our capablities we can get points in these next 3 games, still believe pompey is the key though. Quote
zequist Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 Updated magic numbers (combination of points we need to gain and/or they need to drop for us to finish ahead of them): Bolton - 9 Tottenham - 8 Reading – 6 Portsmouth - 5 Fortunately all these teams except Reading dropped points this weekend, so even with the loss we're still in decent shape. If we somehow win two of three, then we're in the UEFA Cup no matter what anyone else does. If we beat Portsmouth then we only need Reading to lose once (or Spurs to pick up a loss and a draw) to lock up a spot. If we beat Portsmouth and also snatch just one point from one of the other two games, then Reading would need to win out to catch us - even a draw would put them too far behind. We could technically lock up a spot as early as this weekend if we found a way to beat ManU and Reading and Portsmouth both lost. I'm not holding my breath for all three of those results to go our way, however, especially with Portsmouth and Reading both playing at home. Barring that miraculous set of circumstances, however, Portsmouth is definitely the most important remaining game right now because a victory is worth 6 points in the chase - 3 that we gain, and 3 that they lose - enough to completely eliminate them as a threat to us. Quote
Blue 250 Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 Hey JD in JC!.........That's the kinda talk we want!!!! ......."COMPLETELY ELIMINATE PORTSMOUTH" Hell next year,I can think of a few more teams we could perhaps do that to!! AND NO!.....I don't mean luckypool.....we just about did THAT to them this season! You know europe would be great......but it aint been a bad season has it! Quote
Romey 1878 Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 You sound like my bank Manager. Does your bank manager want to completely eliminate you as well? Quote
RuffRob Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 Shame about Saturdays results as if we'd have picked up 3 against West Ham we would have been pretty safe for a place in Europe. O' well gives us a bit more insentive to pick up points against Man U and Chelsea. As looking at the table 57 may not be enough. Assuming we beat Portsmouth - which is a must win game now. I see Spurs picking up 7-9 point - 57/59 Bolton picking up 4 point - 58 Reading picking up 6/7 - 57/58 A win and a draw will see us in the top 7. Anything less and we will need to hope on other teams slipping up. At least every game to the bitter end of the season is going to be meaningful Quote
