adamsmith69 Posted May 21, 2007 Report Posted May 21, 2007 i was just thinkin that all the players we seem to be getting linked with we have let go at some point. i am not 100% sure but there are jagielka, baines and barton. can u name any other good prem players we let go without giving them a chance Quote
Romey 1878 Posted May 21, 2007 Report Posted May 21, 2007 We looked at Owen when he was just a boy and said we didnt want to sign him because he was too small Quote
MikeO Posted May 21, 2007 Report Posted May 21, 2007 (edited) Think it happens at every club to a greater or lesser degree, kids develop at different rates so it's inevitable I think, still bloody annoying when someone comes back to grind the managers nose in it though . Can work both ways though....it'd be lovely to take Arteta back to Barca and watch him cut them to pieces for example. Give us a couple of years, you never know....oh shit, I just woke up <_< . TrueBlue Posted May 21, 2007 Report Posted May 21, 2007 Didn't Blackburn pass on the chance to sign Zidane? Also didn't Doncaster release Kevin Keegan? I aslo heard that Rooney was released for being too fat but then his mum came down and kicked off. Not sure if that last one is true though... Quote

Pat Posted May 21, 2007 Report Posted May 21, 2007 Let's not forget the MOTHER of all "No Thankyou's" ->Ruud Gullit, despo for some overseas experience @ the time of his Feyenord days, offered to us on a loan/option deal. EFC at the time -> No thanks, doesnt look like he will make grade..!!! Quote
ooberman Posted May 22, 2007 Report Posted May 22, 2007 harry redknapp turned down shevchenko when he was at west ham and shev was at dinamo kiev..... think he might also have turned down Batigoal.... Quote
Bluetrip Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 Rumours are we are looking at signing back Gavin Mcann who we let go in 98 to Sunderland. http://www.tribalfootball.com/article.php?id=40627 Quote
Blue4Ever Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 (edited) Tribal Football is mostly bollacks tho and Gavin Mcann is shite anyway I would rather have has Pistone back than to sign him. Edited May 23, 2007 by Blue4Ever Quote
aaron Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 we was offered essain for around £4mil a few years back and offered d.bent for £3mil we deceided to getr marcus coz he was cheaper <_< Quote
Romey 1878 Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 We also had the chance to sign Petr Cech Quote
Louis Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 We tried for Essien but he said he wanted to stay in France for one more season.. I never heard about Cech though Quote
big gorgeous Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 We also were offered Deco when he was at Porto for 2 million, but he failed a medical. Tore Andre Flo before his Chelsea days, and subsequent 9 million pound transfer to Rangers was offered to us for 200k. Then there was Coventry, who turned down Horse head van nistlerooy, for a small amount before he went on to bigger things! Quote
MainStandBlue Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 I heard we also had a chance to sign Robbie Keane before he went to Leeds. Don't know if its true tho. Wouldnt mind seeing him for us now. Quote
comeonblueboys Posted May 25, 2007 Report Posted May 25, 2007 Tore Andre Flo before his Chelsea days, and subsequent 9 million pound transfer to Rangers was offered to us for 200k. If I remember rightly Flo not signing was the whole background of Joe Royle leaving as manager. It was supposed to be Flo and another Norwegian (centreback I think, can't remember the name) signing - I think it was supposed to be for about £2 or £3 mil in total, so I don't think the 200k figure is right. But Johnson refused to sanction the transfers and Royle was gone within days. Quote
Nitrix Posted May 25, 2007 Report Posted May 25, 2007 wow everton could have signed keane cech and essien how great would it of been if we got 'em Quote
Romey 1878 Posted May 25, 2007 Report Posted May 25, 2007 wow everton could have signed keane cech and essien how great would it of been if we got 'em Aye, we'd be £30million+ better off Quote

Thats the way it happened as far as I remember too Flo was another greatly over rate player though, how the fook chelski got that much for him i'll never know, he ended up at sunderland didnt he and couldnt hit a bard door there Quote
Pompey 4 Europe Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 Well, pompey looked at buying Drogba when he was still in france, and Harry didnt buy him cause he "didnt have potential" Quote
Louis Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 We released David Fox two years ago... he's now in England u21s Walter Smith said JJ Okocha was 'past it' before he signed for Bolton. Quote
jamiemaher85 Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 ^^^ Danny Fox is a good player but never would have cut it at everton, as i've said before i watch walsall quiet often as my best friend is a supporter and they picked up both Danny Fox and Anthony Gerrard from us on frees one summer. They looked really good in League 2, but its a huge difference between that and prem football. He might make it in the future but at the moment he's a long way off (the play from u21 you should watch is Scott Dann- also used to play at walsall, both players were signed by cov from walsall in january) Dann looks like he could have a very good future in front of him, we were actually linked to him last summer. Randomness Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 We released David Fox two years ago... he's now in England u21s Walter Smith said JJ Okocha was 'past it' before he signed for Bolton. and bought david ginola instead to go with gazza. Quote
jamiemaher85 Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 As i said before Danny Fox would not have been the answer to all our prayers. Hes doing well now but is only where he is becasue of playing regular football. Quote
Jesse11 Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 Apparently in 1991 Man U offered us doubtful prospects Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes in a straight swap for the services of ageing striker Graeme Sharp. This offer was laughed at by then manager Howard Kendall Quote
comeonblueboys Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 Yeah, I suppose that's why Alex Ferguson went round personally to Ryan Giggs' house when he was 14 to get him to sign a YTS contract with them instead of Man City ... Quote
Ant#1 Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 Nah i do remember back in 1991 when Man U made that offer Quote
MikeO Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 Nah i do remember back in 1991 when Man U made that offer Complete bollocks. Giggs was ManU's new star from when he signed pro in 1990. There was huge press at the time about how good he was and much was made of Ferguson protecting him from the press....he was rarely, if ever, interviewed. Made his début (against Everton) in March '91 and was a regular by the 91/92 season. Who invents this crap? Quote
