  1. Bassong is a CB

A quote from the Guardian newspaper:

'Shearer would very much like to keep the Senegal right-back.'

    End quote.

He's a CB who can play RB as far as I'm aware.

i know this isn't a big deal, but im pretty sure hes a center back that can play left back. also, he is in no way from senegal. he is from cameroon, but i believe is declared for france and has played for their under 21s.

I think this just shows you can't believe anything you read in the papers, cuz they don't know shit.

  2. I would hate to see Jo playing there he doesnt put in a shift when he plays up front( especially away from Goodison) so he would be a complete waste of space in left midfield and would leave Baines too exposed

Kind of agree with most of what you say though, we can forget all about improving the side for the forseeable future the best we can hope for is for Moyse to pad the squad out a bit with second rate squad players.

With that in mind I am surprised we didnt go for Sean Davis on a free from Pompey

I imagine he was out of our price range wage wise. obviously, i have no idea what he is on, but generally, don't players get a lot better wages when a transfer fee isn't involved? I'm swinging in the dark, but say he wanted 25-30k a week. would we pay that for a fringe player??

  3. Fuck it. As it stands we will be competing. Villa wont be near. Same old spurs, flatter to deceive and arsenal, liverpool as it stands havnt progressed and are one injury( gerrard, torres) from average. City are different but who says they are gonna do fook all? At the moment everybody are shitting themselves cos they have bought gareth barry, Santa Cruz and Adeybayor!!

tevez not good in your book?

  4. do teams wait to see who we are targeting then chase after then because of Moyes eye for cheap talent? never heard of naughton before reading everton was interested, then i see tottenham and villa interested. seems its happened w/ many targets before as well. can't remember any at the moment as its late and my brain isn't working too well. im just curious if it seems that way to anyone else

  5. I agree with much of what you say. I'm not sure about Pennant though - undeniable talent but he hasn't really broken through has he? He must have some underlying problems, otherwise he would be up there. None of the managers he's played for have had the ability to get him to perform at his best on a week in - week out basis or maybe the attitude problems mean his managers won't play him on a week to week basis.

If anyone could get him up to scratch it'd be Moyes, I reckon. Great aquisition on a free!

Agreed, thats why i think he could be a good free transfer

  6. I think we can all agree on 3 things. 1) We need more creativity going forward(especially when arteta was out) 2) Pace, especially down the right is essential to add for next season. 3) We will be operating on a fairly low budget. (wages and transfer funds especially compared to these billionaires)

There are two more that most people think we need, but i think would come with addressing those 3 things(A right full back, and a larger squad)

If these are the necessities, then i think we could fill our gaps with 3-4 signings. A few of these players could potentially boost us into the top 4 while some would help us maintain a strong hold of 5th. I think these signings would be very obtainable.

Tuncay. Middlesbrough went down, so I figure he would be available at a reasonable price and would have no reason to not want to sign for us. He is a very very good player with a high work rate. Forward with a brain but could also play an attacking mid role or even out on the left if needed. Middlesbrough fans once chanted last season something along the lines of "We only have one good player" about Tuncay, something I think is worth noting.

Bentley- Apparently Tottenham are wanting to clear him out and for a very cheap price. I think he would find his form again at Everton as i believe he was not given the best chance at Tottenham. When i watched a few games he played, they had him out on the left, flopping sides occasionally. If they would sell for 7.5 I would say yes, please!

Naughton- I know nothing about him, but heard good things.

Jermaine Pennant- For one, he would be a free transfer. That right there makes him an ideal target. I know his attitude is questionable at best, and I had my doubts about him as a player when he was sitting at liverpool. When he was sent to Pompy, my thoughts about ability changed completely. At times, his talent was undeniable. Fantastic pace down the right, and great delivery.

Obafemi Martins- Newcastle was relegated. He is one of the fastest players I have ever seen. Great left and right foot. Can make something out of nothing.

Players such as Mbia and Moutinho would be class, but i think we can get more bang for our buck with the players above. Neville can fill in at defensive mid for at least one more year. We could focus on filling that in seasons to come.

Assuming we have at most, 20 mil to spend, i think we could sign 4 of those players including a free Pennant, or 3 if we took bentley instead.

    What do you guys think?

  7. he looks good scoring 3 in 5, and was quality last season, but i don't know if hes the sort of player moyes would buy. seems to be a bit 'big time'. in confederations cup, bradley had to move him up front because he wouldn't track back and help defend in several games. If US had more quality in midfield and up front, he would have been first one subbed in those games. I didn't see him enough for fulham. maybe this is just for a US team which he is obviously a top 2-3 player and feels he doesn't need to give it his all.

That said, as an american, i still like him and think coming to a team that would force him to work for a spot would do wonders. I just wonder if that 4 mil could be used to bring in a better player for a bit more money on top of it.

  8. didn't jags become a starter only when yobo went out injured. then jags played well and yobo lost his spot. now roles are reversed. i think if yobo plays well in that starting spot, he will keep it even when jags is fit. moyes is a fair manager. nobody is just given their spot, which i like. i think yobo will have to give his spot away more or less now that jags is hurt.

  9. didn't know where to bring this up, so i chose here. if i were david moyes, i would fill our most needed position, right midfield, with the free transfer of pennant. hes got pace and he can serve the ball very well. thats all we need. i know he can be a bit of a prick and such, but i think if it doesn't work out in the long run, we could still sell him for a bit of cash later. although he is a risk, i think the reward outweighs it.

  10. I would say M'bia and Naughton will be our main signings with Owen coming in on a free and that lad on loan from Inter. Dont think we have the money so unless anyone is sold i would imagine that will be it.

just curious which lad this is. i thought of a few players but haven't seen us linked w/ any. balotelli, santon, jiminez, other?

  11. i understand that moutinho could be great and from what i've read, mbia would be good as well, but would it be wise to invest in two central players. we already have arteta(who is best in the middle), cahill, fellaini, neville. i would love moutinho, just don't think he would be our smartest buy at this point.

im sorry if im getting off topic too much, but ive been watching confederations cup, and think that south african, masilela, would be good cover at left back and fairly cheap. masilela, naughton, owen, bently, mbia, would be awesome. if we sale saha(because of his massive wages), we would even possibly have some money to entice robben instead of bently (one can hope)

  12. For me, Everton are the equivilant to (in recent years):

All have a good history, an old'er' stadium and loyal fan base...they all have a very good team ethic with some individuals who can be class on their day aswell.

these two teams do look similar to everton, but there is a massive difference. they have broken into the top 4 multiple times in recent history as well as villareal finishing runner up. two seasons of opportunity to sign players because of champions league football is massive, and we just don't have, and won't easily get that sought after 4th spot.

  13. With talk of Atletico Madrid interested in pienaar, it made me wonder what we would sell him for? He said he would like to play in spain and champions league one day. Towards the end of the season I thought he stepped his game up dramatically having to be the creative force w/ arteta out. I would love to keep hold of him, but I think his value may be at it's peak now. Atletico Madrid is in champions league and in spain, so what do you think we would let him go for?
