1. lol I disagree with your disagreement...he doesn't bring anything to the England team.  The one point I will agree with is his touch it is OK, much better than his heading...apart from his goal I don't think I have seen him head the ball well.  He is in the squad for his height, which is not used as he can't head so I just don't see what he brings. As already mentioned, when he plays England look crap.

I think Walcott should be played instead, just as Sven wanted to play short Owen with short, ugly, granny boiling Rooney.

:D and I disagree with your disagreement of my disagreement. Wouldn't life be dull if we all thought the same things?

  2. prob. the same mindless idiots that thought they could rob big dunc! (while he was in the house  )

    31774

I won't laugh about Dudek - that's a terrible thing to happen to anyone!

But I did have to laugh when I heard about the muppets that broke in to Big Dunc - imagine how they must have $hat themselves when he confronted them. :D

  3. You know I kind of agreed with most things you said, then I think back at when he scored against us, the way he celebrated didn't show me how much he loved the club.

Perhaps it was because of the $hit that was said about him by the fans when he went.

To my knowledge he hasn't publically slagged us off the way some players have when they have left (Radlinski).

Although it hurt at the time I think we should just let it go and look to the future with players like AJ coming into the ranks.

  4. Why on earth he took crouch is beyond me.  The guy IMO is not an international or premiership footballer, he makes me frown whenever I see him play he just isn't great.

Anyway, Sven obvioulsy wanted to start with 2 'short' strikers so Walcott was the obvious replacement but no he sticks the big useless tool up front who did....absolutely...nothing.

I disagree with that. I like Crouch. I think that he has a very good touch, holds the ball up well, distributes it well and although not prolific has already scored some important goals.

I just don't think we have played Crouch well - he's better with his feet than he is with his head so why not keep the ball on the ground rather than keep punting lofted crosses into the box in the hope that he'll get on the end of one of them? We used to do exactly the same with Big Dunc and 9 times out of 10 we would give the ball away. Ok, so you manage to score the odd goal like that but its not the way to play international football. The teams that do well are the teams that link up, overlap, run at defences, stretch them and most importantly keep posession (Argentina, Brazil etc..) not the ones like us who fire in 40 yard long balls at every given chance. When Crouch has actually had the ball to feet he has looked capable, but that hasn't happened often enough.

But back on topic..........I think Crouch has a legitimate claim to a place in the team, I don't think Walcott does.

  5. What you said

    31619

I agree. I was pi$$ed off when he left, but just because we couldn't keep him. At the end of the day he is the biggest talent to come out of English football in years and much as I hate to say it he would have quickly outgrown EFC, we are not the world leading club that Man U are and if they hadn't snapped him up then it would have been one of the others (Chelsea, Real, Barca etc...).

It's telling that the 04-05 season was one of the best we have had in recent memory even without him. I think Gravesson going had far more impact on the club than Rooney did (again, no matter who you are if you get the chance to play for a team like Real then you're going to take it).

I like Rooney, I think Man U have brought out the best in him and I think Fergie manages him well. I want him to get better and better as a player and help England be the international force thet we really should be.

  6. Sorry if this has been mentioned in other threads but I have to ask:

What was the point in bringing him?

Surely the time to play him was last night? 2-1 up, we're looking tired and getting penned in to our own half BUT we've already qualified and one of our 1st choice strikers is probably out of the competition with a fcuked knee. Why not bring on the untried "wonder kid" who's inclusion has kept a few proven players with a legitimate claim to a place out of the squad and who has "ledgendary speed" to try and lift the game a bit and run at the Swedish defence?

But no, we do what we always do and try and soak up the attack until full time.

If Sven wasn't going to give him a run out in this game when is he going to bring him on? In one of the games which we have to win (ie: every one from now on)?

I honestly think that Walcott may not play any part in our World Cup and if he doesn't then the descision to bring him will be one of the stupidest manegerial fcuk ups ever.

  7. Good, I'm glad. I hope he goes and causes as much unrest in their squad as he has at every other club he's played at. I know he can score goals but I think the negatives that come with him far outweigh the positives.

I was glad when we didn't sign him - we want team players like Beattie and AJ (even though we haven't seen him yet) EFC is not a club for pre-madonnas. I think when we got rid of Jeffers he was in danger of becoming a lot like Bellamy - I hope we don't get him back too.

  8. Sol Campbell and Owen Hargreaves really shouldnt get anywhere near the England squad, they were an embarrassment.

    31472

I have to disagree: Hargreaves played well last night. He did exactly what he was asked to do, tackled, broke up attacks and worked really hard. He's playing the holding role so he's never going to shine like Gerrard or (sometimes) Lampard do, but I thought his performance last night was solid. I think this is supported by the fact that both Swedish goals came from dead balls, not attacking moves. Hargreaves will always be unsung, but lets give him a break, there are far worse problems in the squad than him - like our inability to deal with set pieces.

I haven't been his biggest fan at all, but I think we would actually look a lot stronger if Lampard was dropped and Gerrard and Hargreaves started in centre mid, it would allow Gerrard to go forwards and cause the problems we all know he can.

Campbell - I take your point. I think when Neville's fit again Carra should partner Terry and Campbell shouldn't be on the pitch.

One more point - DROP BECKHAM, play Lennon instead he's far more creative. Beckham is starting to look like a one trick pony and I haven't been impressed by any of his performances in a long while. OK, so he can hit a long pass but recently even these have been hit and miss, he hasn't scored a free kick in 3 years (!) for England and don't get me started on penalties. We look best when we keep the ball on the ground and actually play (Ashley and Joe Cole's link up play on the left has been superb). Crouch, although I do like him, is not as good in the air as he should be so what's the point in keep firing high balls into the box? Gerrard is a far more inspirational leader than Beckham and can distribute the ball just as well.

  9. I can't wait to see what they're going to do next season, hopefully compliment each other beautifully. I think that although Beattie had a big turnaround after xmas he was really missing a striking partner and AJ looks like he's perfect for the job.

.....and a midfield that's as good as we've had in that time as well.

    31193

But I still keep thinking if only we still had Gravesson :(

  10. Just my opinion but I really don't like this song. I know EFC are one of the oldest and most revered clubs in the premiership and this is reflected in the lyrics, but to me it just seems a bit twee - I can't help thinking of George Formby whenever I hear it :-(

It's a shame we don't have an anthem that identifies us as a club like "You'll never walk alone" does for Liverpool.

That being said, Z Cars still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up whenever I hear it!

I'd be interested to know what you all think.

  11. As I'm new I just thought I'd say hi.

I was born in Liverpool, lived the first 18 years in Formby (my folks still live there) and am now in Derbyshire.

Have been a blue all my life, maybe that's why I'm bald at the age of 30!

Anyway, good to meet you and all that.....

  12. Surely the point is: regardless of whether he likes a drink or not (and I'm sure he's not the only player out there who does) if he continues to be unable to play an active part in the club because of this or any other reason then the gaffer needs to decide if he's worth keeping. I personally have a lot of faith in Davey M so if he feels he is worth keeping then I support him.

Personally though, I haven't seen anything from him to make me think "we really need this player".
