  1. OK. Anyone know what the situation is re: the Europa league. From my understanding there are 3 places for English teams. Whoever finishes 5th, FA CUP winners and Mickey Mouse Cup Winners

    BUT

Given that the FA CUP semis comprise of RS (qualified), Chelski (prob finish 5th or 6th) and Spurs Prob finish 5th or 6th) and Everton.

Will we qualify for Europe just by reaching the final or will it just open up to whoever finishes 6th in the league?.

    Cheers.

  2. Twice pienaar giving ball away leading to goal

Thats what he's always done. As good as he is at times he has always been a liability, giving the ball away unnecessarily. Thats why I wasnt sad when he left (but was strangely happy when he returned).

Maybe people didnt notice but in seasons past he was responsible for a number goals against us.

  3. Doyle is a decent player. Liked him at Reading and also from what Ive seen of him since hes been at Wolves. OK, hes not EXACTLY what we are looking for (goals) but he would be a pretty good addition to the squad.

He may have only scored 2 goals this season but hey, that would have him near the top of our goal scorers list.

  4. Why does Moyes insist on playing the likes of Phil Neville in midfield (and Heitinga for that matter).

OK, perhaps play 'em there away against the likes of Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal etc but against the powerhouses of WEST BROM and BOLTON?????? That is just negative,

While Bilyaledinov has been a bit shit surely its games against the West Broms and Boltons of the world where he and other PROPER midfielders should be given a chance ahead of defenders played out of position.

I've never been one of the "Moyes Out" brigade but hes starting to test my patience.

    RANT OVER.

  5. Maybe he should watch the 1st half v Man Utd at Old Trafford last season, and the first half of the same fixture at Goodison a few weeks back and see how absolutely AWFUL he was.

If you want to play more games then you have to perform better.

It was no surprise that you were subbed at half time in both of those games. Tottally out of your depth.

  6. I dont think he should be dropped simply because I dont think he has been as bad as people in here seem to think he is

Granted he has had his moments with poor distribution but then that has always been his achillies heel.

His form has dipped a little but I think he is showing signs of getting back to his best and sometimes you just have to let a player play himself back into form.

I watched Johnny against WBA and it wasnt as if he is playing out of his skin

I just dont think the people in this forum realise what it is that Jags brings to the side, he is the man who does all the talking, all the organising he controls our back four and I dont think either Distin or Heitinga give you that

Im not saying he should be untouchable but I just dont think he is as bad as people are saying

He gave away the penalty v Liverpool.

One of the pens v Blackburn.

Was responsible for the QPR goal (totally out of position and let his man go).

Thats enough to be dropped if there is an adequate replacement.

Didnt see the Villa game or the League Cup games so dont know how he performed in them.

Too harsh to blame him for the 1st Man City goal but it could be said (by some, but not me) that his deflection was how it ultimately got past Howard smile.png

  7. Sorry to disappoint you Lads but Bent, Given and Dunne are all going to be available for this game so we will be at full strength, and i think we could take all 3 points from this game! Gabby's on fire on the left and our defence looks back to its best so beware!

Having said that Tim Cahill is a major worry for me, a quality player who can change a game and he has punished us before,

anyhow good luck guys (cant really say that with much conviction lol) and we will see on Saturday!

Dunne's playing?, great!. Good chance he'll give away a penalty.

  8. Has to be 'were forever Everton' remember teaching my eldest son it when he was about 7! Cant wait to teach it to my other lad have to wait a while tho hes only 7 months!!

"We're Forever Everton", is a far superior song to "Grand Old Team" which I find cringe worthy, its great when the crowd sing it but over the tannoy its embarrassing, sounds like someones Granddad singing it and to make matters worse the song consists of 4 or 5 IDENTICAL verses. The song should be half as long as it is.

Or better still, play "..Forever Everton" in place of "Grand Old Team" and confine "Grand Old team" to the paltry 1 play per match day.

    Rant over.

  9. I think Kenwright and Dave Jones are friends aren't they?

We'd all like someone like Coyle or Billic. I don't think we could call it a step forward but it wouldn't be a step back taking either of them. However, my question wasn't you would we like? Thats to easy, we could all sit here and list Managers we want to take the helm.

Who realistically could we expect, for me, Maghull hits the nail on the head. Dave Jones would be in and we would start to back paddle. One thing is for sure, whoever does come in when Moyes goes has a very hard job ahead.

While David Jones wouldnt be the answer as far as many Evertonians are concerned, he's not the worst choice in the world.

Cardiff play some decent stuff and on a very, VERY limited budget. He's been there a while too so he's not one to complain about lack of funds (perfect for Kenwright).

He's arguably been more successful with Cardiff than Moyes was with Preston.

Certainly would prefer Dave Jones than some of the names mentioned here like Sven, Jewell, Lee Clark and did someone mention the Norwich manager who has done a good job?. Sorry but that just reminds me of Mike Walker and I dont want to go down that road again.

  10. I honestly think that in the current skint state were in, Bill Kenwright would more than likely look at someone like David Jones.

At least we know he'd jump at the chance of coming back to Goodison but I dont think it would be looked at as a positive step for Everton. Its actually going backwards and if it did happen he'd have to prove himself pretty quick or he'd be pushed out the door.

I think Kenwwright having plucked Moyes from the Championship would go that way again.

  11. While a few worried about Cahill being missing for 6 weeks I thought it would be a blessing in disguise as Moyes would be forced to play the strikers and he will hopefully have an idea about who best to play when Cahill comes back.

I do love Cahill but I think he limits Moyes' options because he feels forced to play him either up front just behind a striker, all too often it turns out being a 4-4-1 until we go behind and then we go 4-4-2 and scrape a draw.

I am not one of those that thinks Moyes should go but he needs to adapt to whoever we are playing. Having 3 strikers on the bench to lowly West Ham the other week was MADNESS. And earlier in the season when we were playing "lesser" teams he left Coleman on the bench when it seemed obvious that we should be using Coleman to attack these teams and maybe take the slightly more cautious approach against the "tougher" teams.

Anyway, I think its 4-4-2 until Cahill gets back. Problem is though once he does return and start playing, even if results dont go our way, Moyes will probably persevere with Cahill and stick with 4-4-1 even if its not working.

  12.

I've gone for Pienaar as I thought he worked very hard, played some decent stuff and between him and Coleman looked most likely to create something.

He also gave the ball away most notably for that great chance Cole had in the 2nd half.

Yes, Pienaar runs around alot but gives the ball away too much for my liking.

  13. Howard or Cahill. Went with Howard, just. but both were immense for me.

Did we miss PIENAAR????. Not for me.

    and Did you know.......?

Pienaar has been absent from 3 of the 4 games weve won this season but been present in ALL of our defeats.

Osman has played in 3 of our 4 wins.

    Just an observation.

Either sign or sod off I say.

  14. But arsenal have won 10, not 3. So you're point is useless. On current form, we're going down. I hope we find the net in this game one more time than citeh do and that Tevez doesn't play.

We are 15th, so on current form we are 15th and not going down. (its not rocket science).

A telling stat is goal diff.

    We are -2. the bottom 3 are -15, -12 & -15.

Things are far from perfect but I have seen enough to suggest that we will improve. If we are not mid table by the end of Feb I will be very surprised.

I have been a critic of Moyes in the past and there are things he does that annoy me still but some of the 'get rid' talk is a bit uncalled for in my opinion. However come the end of Feb if we are still in the lower regions I will eat my words.

  15. I've been saying the same as Bill for a while too, I think we peaked at the FA Cup Final and 4th place finish. I can't see it being possible to replicate that achievements for a long time.

Possibly true but also bit pessimistic.

If this season is anything to go by (with the "top" teams dropping more points than weve seen in recent years) then I see no reason why Everton cant keep in touching distance with those teams if that trend continues.

Perhaps we wont reach the current standard of the top 3 teams but it seems that the top teams standard is dipping and the league is all the better for it because with a bit of luck the likes of Everton will beable to challenge at least 4th spot.

Look at Bolton lying in 6th spot, 5 points off 4th, 6 points off 2nd & 8 points off 1st.

Surely you see Everton as being capable of being as good as the 'mighty' Bolton?. Or are you really THAT depressed?.
