We have been looking good going forward. I think Pienaar has been brilliant. We are looking rather shakey at the back though. I'd even say shocking defending with the Fletcher-goal.

It was a counter as well. I'm talking about the overall game plan when Villa are in their defensive positions.

Whatever way we tried to play against Blackburn, stretching the play is the way to go against a team sitting deep with so much players behind the ball. That's a footballing principle really.

None of Saha's chances actually came about because of play through the middle. Most of them actually seemed to follow a hoof ball. As you can see in these highlights:

I agree he shouldn't have been playing so deep but I can only guess that was Moyes' plan as he stayed there the whole game. Otherwise Moyes would have been screaming at him to push up more. So we had two deep central midfielders, OK Cahill plays slightly off but he's not exactly a creative player with the ball to feet. So all the attacking play went wide with the aim of getting crosses in. There needs to be more variation than that.

Really, getting the ball out wide is what you need to do when you play a team sitting deep, packing their defense like Villa did. You have to stretch their defense and get crosses in. There's no way you can combine through to it, or play balls over the top when they sit deep like they did.

Baines, Pienaar, Coleman and Saha (the latter two should definitely start as right mid and striker) were good. Gave it to Baines.

As I said, he has a German parent. And was born there. He did not get a naturalisation.

The German National side is full of 'foreigners' too.

I can only think of Cacau who got a naturalisation like Arteta would. Players like Tasci and Özil were all born in Germany. You can compare that to players of Carribean descent like Ashley Cole and Ashley Young playing for England. Others like Khedira and Boateng even have a German parent. Klose and Podolski moved to Germany when they were children and have so-called Aussiedler-status.

Dont think anyone played well from what I saw, Baines, Heits, Arteta & Pienaar did okay but that isnt good enough...

Cahill was ok as well. Scored the goal of course, gave some sneaky passes inside the box and worked really hard all game. He was lucky to get away without a booking though when he seemed to overreact a little when he was fouled after a good steal.
