The 22-year-old is rated as one of the best at his position in the Football League and is set to be a free agent this summer after rejecting a new deal

Bournemouth are stepping up their interest in Southend's Daniel Bentley.

Boss Eddie Howe wants a new keeper this summer, and has identified the soon to be free-agent as a potential target.

Scouts from the Cherries watched Bentley perform heroics during his man-of-the-match showing for his League One club in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Walsall.

And his sparkling showing will only add to the growing interest for the in-demand 22-year-old.

Bentley - rated as one of the best Football League stoppers and the hero of the Essex club's League Two playoff final win at Wembley last year - seems certain to move on this summer after stalling on a new deal.

But Bournemouth face Premier League competition, with Everton and Norwich also keen. A host of Championship clubs are also in the running — Cardiff and Hull are among his long-term admirers.
