APPIAH THE £5M MAN FOR MOYES

EVERTON boss David Moyes is making a dramatic late £5million bid for Ghana captain Stephen Appiah after Manuel Fernandes snubbed the Merseysiders.

Moyes contacted the 26-year-old midfielder's agents yesterday and will try to thrash out a price with Fenerbahce for him.

Appiah wants to go to the Premiership to follow in the footsteps of his mates Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari - and Everton could get their man if they pay the fee and his wages.

Moyes has been left in turmoil by Fernandes' shock U-turn and decision to sign for Valencia. But Appiah, nicknamed the Black Tornado because of his all-action style, is the type of physical and aggressive player Moyes needs.

With over 50 caps Appiah would have no problem with a work permit but Everton must do the deal in the next 48 hours or risk another last-minute transfer letdown.

Just to confirm lads , he is irish, he is a defender and he is on loan from sunderland as seem to be the case with most irish players these days. I am both shocked and very confused with this news. If i am reading things right there is no deal with either club at the minute so really that means manny has a decision to make. I would like to think manny would perfer us even if valencia may be a better team but after all the things he said about the club and wanting to be playing in the premier league. I think the FA will have a lot to answer if we miss out on manny, its now a week since we supposedly submitted the deal for clearence.

I think this game shows how badly we need the two signings we are (hopefully) making. Fernades is a must feel carsley and neville in the same midfield line up just does not work, we have nothing to offer going forward with them in the centre. Fernades should create alot more than either of them.

Up front we are full of hard workers but none of them will create something out of nothing but i think yakubu can do that, and not only that but should take more attention away from AJ.

Also think hibbo needs to be replaces just seems to have gone off his game since he came back from injury last season, think jakielka would be ideal in that position.

Hope to see baines playing at least believe he has trained all week.

I agree with the comment 'best team since the 80's but what i really like about this team now is the age. Most of our players are early or mid 20's now when you consider the team Moyes took over 5 years ago he has done some rebuilding. Very excited about the season now but next year and the year after is when we will see the best of this team.

just being told by a sports journalist that the deal will go through tomorrow. He said Everton applied for clearence on monday and its will not take more than 3 days if there are no problems. He also said that he has not heard of any possible problems, the structure of the deal had already being given the ok by the FA. Believed to be the same structure as tevez deal with utd

i think yakubu is worth it to be honest. Liam I think he would be better than robbie keane to play alongside AJ. AJ and keane would be too similiar to play together.

And I maintain that we can not have 19 million to spend, when allegedly we have a budget of ten million! If so then why struggle to sign the likes of Vogel!
