  1. Right peeps i don't like posting daft things but seeing as this is a rumour page im gonna put my rumour on. Just got a worrying text off my mate. The lad is a Blackburn fan so he has no axe to grind but he was chatting to his mate before who is a scout for everton on some level. Anway he tells me the lad is good friends with Moyes and his dad as they both live in Longridge(wherever that is). Basically Moyes has told him Kenwright had met Lennons representatives last night in London and he has got the job. My mates just told me he has put £50 on it at bookies. Ive told him he is chatting bollocks but he did swear on his deceased mothers grave so he would be a twat if he is lying. I hope to fuck its not true sad.png

    Hmmmmm........

I found out last night that a huge amount of the betting on Neil Lennon becoming next Everton manager have come from Lurgan (where he's from)............

  2. Gaaahhhhhhhhhh Don't mention 'Onest 'Arry as a possiblility. I would stab myself with a spoon before I could accept that.

It's a certain to that his name will be mentioned - especially as Queen's Fart Rangers have been relegated.

He's a very good manager, but is to obsessed with spending millions on over-rated players.

You never know, Alan Pardew might be out of a job in the next few weeks..............could be worth a 25 year contract with yous?

  3. I'm not a Lennon fan in the least, but hasn't he had a lot of death threats as Celtic. It seems like I remember reading that he even had people send things to his house and light up his phone. That would make most people think the world is against them.

    Yes he has.

Two men are currently serving 5 years for assaulting him in the town before he was manager.

Two men are currently serving time for sending him home-made parcel bombs intended to maim/kill

He has been attacked by a fan on the pitch at an away game in Edinburgh.

Not to mention the countless death threats he has received since he arrived in SCOTLAND,

  4. I sort of dismissed Lennon too if I am honest. Not cos he is a poor manager or any reason like that. I just don't see him fitting in at Everton. To be frank Everton were in a poor shape when Moyes arrived, we were lucky in that he had some experience in English football (albeit at a lower level) Lennon may prove great in the EPL, but somehow I can't see him understanding the Everton way. He can say he understands the Glasgow Derby for example but that is not the same as a Merseyside Derby. I am not sure I am putting my point across properly here. But basically I just have the same sort of feeling about Lennon that I had about Mike Walker when we appointed him.

I'd say that Everton and Celtic are pretty similar tbh.

Lennon has done basically the EXACT same thing as Moyes - taken over a club in disarray, steadied the ship, brought in great players and built great foundations and built upon them.

To be fair, Lennon played in England for many years and I'm sure he has watched his share of MErseyside games and will be more than aware of the importance for both sides. That being said, no manager (unless a dyed-in-the-wool Toffee or Red) will truly know 100% until they manage in it - will be the same for most/all the managers you are shortlisting.

Again like, I hope that you don't get your hands on Lennon, but I'd be happier if he went to Everton as I know he will do a good job there and FOR the fans - certainly better than the likes of Martinez and the likes of Redknapp etc.

  5. Don't take offense mate as non was intended and I maybe should have worded it better it was more so a comparison of the situation in regards to a team over achieving if you will in a cup competition more so then a comparison in quality.

I'll admit I don't know the full ins and outs of what has gone on with Lennon outside of football and i know He's had some tough moments but in general in interviews He comes across for Me anyway as having a chip on his shoulder and a the world is against me type attitude but as said that's just M opinion and I could well be way off the mark....

All that aside I just don't rate Him as being a manager who could cut it in the top half of the EPL He may do well elsewhere but for Me not here.

Fair enough pal, we are all entitled to our opinions.

I just wouldn't like to see any of your lot dismiss Lennon as manager because of this supposed "attitude" problem - if you actually watch the majority of his interviews, and not the ones hand-picked by TV to make him appear as some sort of pantomime villain, you will see he is a very articulate and likeable chap - quite strange indeed as you hear interviews with the usual sets of journalists laughing away with Lennon, then the following day writing absolute bullshit about him, and connotations towards him being nothing other than an angry wee ginger man............nonsense!

I suspect (and take no offense), that the majority of fans (not just Everton, but England), do not watch enough Scottish football or Celtic games to properly judge Lennon on how good a manager is - therefore are just judging on the state of Scottish fitba, and the biased media clips of Lennon - fair enough, but I would suggest if he's an actual candidate of coming to your club, then get a wee bit more knowledge on him and the job he has done with Celtic - heck, even get the views from some Celtic supporters.

Again like, Everton aren't a team that are going to attract the sexy football foreign coaches. You need a manager with heart, passion, desire, will and courage. You need someone who is savvy in the transfer market to pick up hidden gems, get a good season or two out of them, then punt them on for a good ol' transfer fee.

  6. Welcome to the board Wan

It's obvious Your loyal to Lennon and do rate Him and although I don't think He's a bad manager I think He's far below the standard We should be looking at here. His achievements in the CL are commendable but for Me its no different then a League two manager having a good run in the FA cup and beating a few big clubs on route when You compare the gulf in quality and so on...

Let's be honest the SPL is a piss poor league in comparison to most in Europe even more so now it's not a two horse race, I think any half decent manager could win the league with Celtic considering the quality of competition.

Without going into to much detail the likes of Lennon are simply not good enough in My eyes far from it, average manager with massive chip on his shoulder and a poor attitude.

    Thank you.

I am loyal to Lennon and do rate him, but I am in no way denying any of his faults or the environment that he is involved in.

What I will most definitely say is that he has FAR from a chip on his shoulder and his attitude is far from being poor - although I do suppose being physically assaulted, sent death threats, parcel bombs, vilified by almost every angle of the Scottish media for displaying passion for his boyhood team would make most a bit tetchy.......the fact that he still remains in the country and the manager of Celtic without walking away is testament to his character.

Again, we KNOW that Scottish football isn't great, but it's great how we can still produce a few good Scottish lads now and again, and under Lennon have made progress in Europe - getting to the Europa League group stage, then last season getting to the last 16 of the Champions LEague (which by NO means is on par with FA Cup - regardless of it being knockout/cup format competition). Celtic (even in YOUR eyes) are certainly not on par with any English league 2 side - I find that highly offensive.

  7. wasnt talking about the Champions League. Was referring to Martinez doing a better job than Lennon despite the constant relegation struggles, because his team are in a much tougher competition. Celtic dont have the same standard of competition.

Aye you're right about the league being tougher, but take Scottish football out of the fact and to be honest, the teams regularly in the lower half of the SPL generally aren't as good as made out to be.

  8. I looked for a similar topic but there is no exact place to discuss just this:

Martinez - I don't want him he plays nice football but doesn't seem to learn from mistakes in terms of always fightin a relegation battle.

Neil Lennon - I wouldn't choose him I want experience or at least some sort of proven record of success.

Laudrup - He would be my first choice but why would he leave swansea for everton.

Martin O'neil - This would be fine for a few years but I want someone who can do a moyes and be here for a long term.

Gus Poyet - He would be my second choice although not sure he would leave Brighton if they come up

Getting into the last 16 of the Champions League no good enough for some fans then?

  9.

possibly ignorant of me..if so i apologise..ok 1 or 2 maybe harsh..a handful of good games then wink.png i'd hardly call spartak moscow one of the biggest and best teams in the world but fair enough! maybe he has done a lot for your club i don't know..i just don't see winning the spl as an achievement if you're in charge of celtic right now...hopefully for the scottish leagues sake that will change..it's become the joke it has down here because of the lack of competition..that is why it is belittled etc..rightly or wrongly i don't know? martinez has a far tougher job in keeping wigan in this league and has succeeded so far..looks like he is on his last life like but he isn't any worse than lennon

Fair enough mate, no need to apologise.

Without sounding snippy, do you actually watch any of the SPL games? We can only beat what is put in front of us, and at least we have had teams showing more character this season and have given us very good games.

Again, we have pretty much sidetracked the league this season to have a good go at Europe, and have by and large made waves on that front again. Building up Scotland's co-efficiency points will ultimately ad to the postive future of Scottish football. Therefore we have become the fore-runners for Scotland - and to be honest, the somewhat "saviours".

Martinez isn't any worse than Lennon? With all due respect mate, Lennon has built a team that has competed in the Champions League this year on a budget of about £10m - that is fucking remarkable.

De Boer has done something similar with Ajax (who play in a better league) and has quite rightfully gained plaudits for his efforts, so why not Lennon in the eyes of English football and it's fans? Quite simply because we play in Scotland.

There's a reason why he has become a favourite to take over your club, and if SkySports are to be believed, that your club is ready to make an official approach.

  10. and yours is equally valid, and I can see where youre coming from. The reasoning behind Martinez has been debated on this forum quite a lot recently, which is why I cant be arsed going into details smile.png

Fair enough sir, I just recall not so long ago many Everton fans taking the piss out of Liverpool when Martinez was highly touted to go to them.

I actually tend to take a good liking to Everton and hope that they get a good man in the door at the club and keep up the good work of Moyes.

Personally, I think you'd be getting a very good manager in Lennon (for reasons I've already said - but, I certainly hope you lot don't get him). All these comments I see about his negative attitude, or his deplorable character etc is absolute nonsense. He is vilified in Scotland by certain sects because of his religious and cultural background, and the fact that he is a passinate heart-on-the-sleeve type manager gives them a good excuse to stick the knife in.

If it's a manager who will fight tooth-and-nail for your team, build for the future, show ambition and generally be a highly-respected man manager, then Lenny would suit you greatly.

  11. agree with matt..my sister could win the league with celtic..1 or 2 good games in europe does not a great manager make...much harder to keep wigan in the prem league..somethin which i truly believe celtic would struggle to do..i don't think martinez is as good as people say however

1 or 2 "good" games? So Lennon's Celtic team gaining their best run of away victories in European competition in some years, gaining qualification via two really good teams, gaining second place in an extremely hard group, and matching barca on their home patch then BEATING them on ours in the retuen leg, as well as back to back defeats of Spartak Moscow are "1 or 2 good games"? Very good mate.

If doing all that doesn't make a good manager, or even a "great" manager as you say, then why don't you actually look at the good Lennon has done for my team since becoming manager instead of dismissing/belittling his achievements simply because of your English media hype snobbery.

  12. better than Lennon in my eyes. Clearly youre a Celtic fan (my preferred Scottish team too) so Im going to assume you have green n white tinted glasses.

Klopp is a looooooooooong shot, but we can either aim high or settle for mediocre. Id rather aim high.

I thought the picture of Wanyama in my avatar might give away the fact I'm a Celtic supporter smile.png

I don't know what you mean about Green Tinted glasses.......in what respect? I spoke about Martinez being a lack of ambition for Everton as they have been turned into a team that competes in the top half of your league each year under Moyes. Martinez - decent manager no doubt, but his team notoriously do not turn up until the end of the season. They will be relegated this year and that is NOT the sign of a decent managerial appointment imo.

Whether or not he's a better manager than Lennon is your opinion, but I know who's team has been making splashes this year against the biggest and best teams in the world.

  13. Haven't posted on here in a good while but had to comment on Neil Lennon being odds on to get the job.

Down South you probably know all about him but as someone who's living in Scotland, reading Scottish papers, and watching Scottish football I have to say it'd be an absolutely dreadful appointment. He's signed some decent players for Celtic like Hooper, Wanyama, Matthews and Ledley but he's also wasted several million pounds on dross like Daryl Murphy, Bangura, Juarez and Ambrose amongst others. He's had no competition (Rangers) this season yet the SPL was the last league in the country to be wrapped up.

Putting actual managerial stuff aside, he's a deplorable human being who thinks the world is against him and not the type of character that is needed at EFC.

Deplorable human being? rofl.gifrofl.gif Aye, very good.

Also as someone living in Scotland, I do generally get the chance to see the garbage that the Scottish media put out about Neil Lennon being a thug (and other libelous slogans), and can categorically say that he gets an extremely harsh time up here in Scotland. This is also the same man who has been: assaulted in the street by two Rangers supporters, sent parcel bombs, been attacked on the pitch by a Hearts fan during a game and also received umpteen ridiculous charges by the SFA for miniscule behaviours.

"He's signed some decent players for Celtic like Hooper, Wanyama, Matthews and Ledley but he's also wasted several million pounds on dross like Daryl Murphy, Bangura, Juarez and Ambrose amongst others."

Yes, signed guys like Fraser Forster and Gary Hooper that are now on the verge of being in the England team (a great feat for English players playing in Scotland even to be considered). Victor Wanyama - plucked from obscurity from the Belgian leagues for £1m, now being touted for the likes of Man Utd etc. Adam Matthews £300k capture who has performed extremely well in both league and European adventures - also being looked at down south. Joe LEdley - inportant part of the squad - beat Roma for his signature.- these guys amongst other cracking players Lennon has introduced into the squad for a first team 11 that doesn't exceed £10m in transfer fees.

Tell me one manager who has never bought players and the transfer has been turned out to be less than fruitful? For all of Lennon's not so good signings, his best signings FAR outweigh the previous.

Very good manager who is capable of getting the best out of players who are down. Focuses on blending youth with experience and getting players from obscurity with a future view to selling on for a fantastic profit. Very similar to Moyes in essence, albeit with FAR more European experience.

You'd be getting a very good option if Lennon goes to Everton.
