    Looks like we might get to see Gueye on the left.

     

     

    Holy shit. Leeds beating Arsenal. What is it about Leeds? Besides, we've got Beckford now, they can't score on miracle long balls anymore.

    Been watching this game on Setanta Ireland before the Everton game. Bruce is having the game of his life alongside O'Brien, but he looks to have injured himself. Leeds would be a great side for Shane to go on loan to.

    Can Shane possibly be converted into a midfielder or striker? That's the only way he'll get to play under Moyes. I feel sorry for Shane because Moyes simply will not trust him to play. The line of youth getting a chance here has long been an idea I have rubbished (I know you disagree Dunc), so tell Shane to push as hard as he possibly can to get out of this club on loan. If he plays as well as we all think he would on loan maybe a top club with a manager would spot that talent and come in for him and let him play at the top.

    He has played up front for the reserves as an extra striker when a goal is needed and he sometimes played in midfield as a kid but he excels at centre half - if ever someone was built for it, it is him!

     

     

    Cant believe the comments released today from Moyes as well where he more or less states 'Jags had to play as Hibbert is too small and we dont have other options'... Must be really dissapointing to hear that kinda thing for Shane (and Mustafi).

    It's an odd thing to say all right.

     

     

    Lets face it - can he do any worse than Jags at the moment?

     

    Not one fan would begrudge Duffy being given a start at the present time given injuries etc. I feel that another chanting session like we did for Coleman may be needed, seriously irritating. Moyes gives youth a chance?

    He certainly wouldn't be any worse than a half fit Jagielka, or an out of position Tony Hibbert, and I try not to let my bias blind me... Stubbs has already stated that Shane is finally finding form after his injury and prior to his injury, Shane was receiving praise from all quarters. In the Europa League Pat Nevin highlighted how his reading of the game and positioning was remarkable for a player so young and when he was training with the Irish senior team, he stole the headlines for both good and bad reasons. I remember reading a piece from Cathal Dervan in the Irish Star that even went as far as to describe Shane as resembling a combination of some of Ireland's best centre backs - the skill of David O'Leary with the leadership of Mick McCarthy. As surreal as that might sound, if nothing else, it clearly shows the impact that Shane had. Indeed, Trapattoni, Tardelli and senior players like Liam Lawrence and Darren O'Dea all praised Shane's ability during the training camp, and Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington bemoaned the loss of Shane, saying that he was sure he would be around at the top end of football for years to come.

    Shane has to make the step up some time, and he has just turned 19, so, if he's good enough, what time is the right time?

    Duffy would be better off leaving permanently, nevermind just on loan tbh mate.

    Moyes rejected an offer from a Premier League club last season, but the way he is so reticent about playing Shane is worrying, I must admit. The fact that after Jags' and Heitinga's injuries, Moyes said "I have no centre halves", is a bit sickening too, but what can you do? Keep the head down and keep working hard.

     

    If he's good enough then he's old enough Louis...................we've already got Joey Yobo out on loan

    I agree with this sentiment, but Moyes seems to be ultra conservative when it comes to his defence. Maybe Shane isn't quite good enough yet, but I'd like to think that he has more valuable attributes required to play centre half than Tony Hibbert. Positional awareness, strength, aerial prowess, passsing ability.

    How can he go from being out for a month to being in with a shout of playing in a few days? :blink:

     

    I'd rather not take the risk with him tbh, it might make the injury worse and him be out for months rather than weeks.

    It's an interesting one indeed; painkillers? swelling making diagnosis difficult? Looks like Moyes is prepared to risk Jags, in the same way he risked Distin in Athens, despite him carrying a hamstring injury...

    I know Moyes never gives any of the young lads a chance ( Rooney, Rodwell, Vic, Vaughan, Coleman, Gosling)

    Moyes, like most managers, doesn't like taking chances at the back. He'll probably go for Hibbert or Neville over Shane. Although with that Zigic lad, Shane's aerial prowess would be valuable.

    With regard to that post on NSNO, Romey, I had a look at the Preston squad and there are quite a few younger guys from the NI underage set-up that Shane would be friendly with, as well as 3 Ireland internationals. All in all, it seems that Preston might also be a good move in terms of being able to settle in easily as well.

     

    RE Everton_Worshiper: It's interesting you should joke about the talents of St. Ledger. He's held in high regard by Ireland fans who feel that the move would be fantastic for Shane, considering that he would have the opportunity to learn from a 'great defender' like St Ledger :lol: To be fair though, he's not that bad. Championship may be his level, but he has been linked with a few Prem clubs and Trapattoni seems to rate him.

    Do you think Preston would be a good club to go on loan to?

    I'm of the opinion that any move would be good, so long as he gets playing competitive football at a relatively high level. Especially when you consider the crucial stage that Shane is at in his career. He is too old for the U18s (I think), not yet ready for the first team and with reserve games occurring very rarely, it must be difficult to develop one's game.

     

    I heard whispers of Baxter moving to Scunthorpe. I suppose the same questions apply to him.

    I only saw the highlights, but by all accounts Coleman had a good game. His goal was lucky, but he worked hard to create the chance. The defence was very poor for Blackpool's second. From the highlights I saw, Jagielka was all over the place for the high ball in.

    Holloway is doing a good job with Blackpool, but this game should be a bit of a wakeup call.

    i cant see moyes restricting youth to be honest with you..maybe that injury has knocked him back a couple years

    I don't know about a couple of years, but the injury was a horrendous one and Shane has already defied the doctors' estimations of recovery time by playing full games as early as August (accident happened late May). However, I honestly think it would be a bit much to expect him to be back at the standard he was at so soon after the injury. He's probably still 'catching up' with fitness levels. It's also important to remember that Shane is still only 18, with only 2 senior appearances for Everton (albeit with an abundance of underage international honours, as well as playing with the senior Ireland team in behind closed doors friendlies).
