  1. I can understand where you are coming from, and I think that it is very high injustice about soldiers not earning higher wages for their services. However, with being a professional sports star, this requires you to be in training almost 12 months of the year for roughly a career that could span on average 15-20 years. At the end of this career, your body will most likely have suffered multiple injuries, which could ultimately affect the course of the rest of your life. So therefore, at your peak as a player, its ideal that players who are at the top of their game deserve decent paychecks, and in Phil's case, being a great role model for all people, its somewhat necessary that he receives a higher pay.

edit: But yes I do agree with you that it is injustice that soldiers earn very little for the risks they put themselves in, however I don't think it should mean sports stars should earn less because of that.

just to make a point, to get into the special services, only around 3% of the armed forces are considered 'fit' enough. they will only be allowed to serve while they are 'able'

if these guys get injured while performing their duty they are likely to be killed or maimed and unable to work again.

now take michael owen for example, £100000 at newcastle

    that says it all

  2. I go along with 40.000 a week for Jags not being an excessive amount, especially when you compare the wages of the Top 4 which can be anything from 80 grand up to 100+ grand.

Having said that i dont go along with them being the Cheapest sports personalities, Dont forget that this is a weekly wage, so on that basis they earn £1 million pounds or more every ten games, nearly 5 million over the course of a season, And they dont have to win anything to get it.

I think possibly the only peeps who are paid more for NOT winning anything are formula one Drivers, and possibly the top american golfers (Tiger Woods etc ), I may be wrong. :)

i didnt say they were the cheapest, Do you follow us sports, baseball, american football?

Anyone who thinks a sports 'person' deserves the sort of wages they recieve is bonkers in my opinion.

What happened to competitve loyal sports we used to see?

    i'll leave it at that

  3. Really i thought footballers came cheap  in comparison to other players its a justified amount to give a player in todays game who without this season we would be well and truly fucked to be honest.

Footballers are relatively cheap when you look at other sports.

Let me re phase, no sports star deserves £40000, if you look at the US sports this is fuck all. But when you consider how much a top soldier gets paid putting his life on the line for his country, not to mention what their family get if they never come back, it puts sports stars salaries to shame

  4. bored of tidying up your multi posts (but im dedicated so i'll carry on)

    anyway...

...jags first few games for us, when he was playing in midfield, i thought he was outstanding. against united at home him and neville played centre mid together. jags did the job of both men and did a great job, after that he played pretty poor in midfield. also this season in the couple of games in the middle he was pretty poor too. so im gunna go with, no i dont think hes a very good midfielder, he has played a few games there well.

    next...

...when he played in goal he did do well. but lets be sensible, hes not gunna start a game in goal is he, its not like its playing someone out of position.

i see your point in why buy a player and not use him, but let me ask a question. do you remember per koldrup? proven international defender, paid good money for him. he didnt play, when they did throw him in what happened? villa stuck four on us. he was shite, maybe moyes has learnt to trust his proven players. now jags is playing out of a position where we have seen him excel, but its not like hes playing badly. hes just not hitting the highs he was at centre half. yobo is doing a good job since he came in too. but if you keep wanting to see this proven international play, just remember per koldrup. still a proven international and still playing top flight football for fiorentina.

My last post on this, but if Jacobsen is shite why did he sign him and why are we paying him every week to warm the bench with no intention of ever using him?

  5. I wouldn't say Liverpool have a massive squad, they are totally reliant on Torres and Gerrard, they only have one decent striker (Torres) and no decent wingers. Winning the cup would be nice but it won't make any difference to the fortunes of Everton football club, it's just a nice day out and some history, qualifying for the CL could transform the club - that is the difference.

Could we beat Madrid or any other CL team 4-0?

How much money has Penfold wasted getting them where they are, we just cant find anywhere near that sort of money.

  6. well, yes, as a CB playing RB isnt much out. where anything other than a GK playing there is a bit silly

Do you think Jags is a good midfielder? by what we have seen from him in that spot

I remember when Jags was at Sheff Utd, Paddy Kenny went off injured, they didnt have a sub keeper so Jags went in goal for around 40mins and he was actually very good, he kept a clean sheet and they won 1- 0.

Just wanted to make a point that he can play in goal as well like.

My point is though, why on earth sign an established Danish international right back, then not use him, and proceed to disrupt the whole defence by moving your best defender out of his best natural position, is quite beyond me, to be honest. The defence does not look the same without him in the middle

Im pretty sure it was against Arsenal too.

    Drop Howard......................

  7. If we can qualify with our injury list what makes you all think that we are not ready for it yet, based on that logic we'll never be ready. All four Prem sides have made it to the last eight and I would imagine they will predominate in the remaining matches. If we are to evolve as a club you have to grasp your chances when they come along. I have always said that the club needs a trophy but we also need a much higher profile and that is what the C/L brings.

Pompey won the cup, they are now struggling for Prem survival as they looked on the cup win as a montain top, its not even halfway to the summit. As for Leeds, they spent like no tomorrow, we already have the players.....................God I do wish some of you would believe, ask david Moyes what he would want and it would be C/L every time

    [/quot

All 4 teams have qualified for the next round as they have very good, large squads and how much have they all spent on their players? We have a good first team, and without 1 or 2 stars, we rely on 16 or 17 year old kids. We simply cant compete with them financially.

We can no way guarantee a top 4 spot every year at this moment in time and it would be be silly to believe otherwise untill we can compete.

  8. on what grounds does he deserve a chance? the team has been winning without him. no body deserves to be dropped

When Hibbert is fit, is he going to go straight in the side again?

Jacobsen was brought in as cover or to replace Hibbert when needed, now he aint getting a look in

  9. What would you rather do though, play your best defender in a defensive position or play some unproven danish defender in defence?

What we are doing is working, no need to change it unless injuries, suspensions or results go against us.

Jags should be the heart of the defence, no question. i think Jcobsen deserves a chance, its his natural position, why not give him a go

  10. It's not about competing in the CL at the moment, it's about getting into the CL, getting the money to strengthen the team/squad and then trying to finish 4th again when hopefully we will be able to compete. We're never going to be strong enough unless we get some money and we're never going to get any money until we either qualify or get taken over - and to be taken over we probably need to be a more attractive proposition and the CL would help! I'd far rather we kept our current leadership (ie not be taken over like Man City) and started to get increased revenue from the CL to transfer our fortunes.

we aint going to compete with the big spenders untill some oil tycoon buys us, there are a lot of teams with billions to spend in England now so we cant guatantee the top 6 or 7 every year at the moment, Villa, Man City, Spurs, West Ham to name a few will surely strengthen in the summer.

i would happily take the cup FOR NOW

  11. Why play our best player, Jagielka out of position. When he arrived with us he couldnt get a game, now he is our main man, playing in the middle of defence gives confidence to the rest of the team, its madness to have him at right back in my opinion.

So why not try all 3 centre backs with the 2 wing backs and see how well it works, we aint going to finish 4th and we aint going to finish below 7th, which is going to be the cut off for europe.

  12. i didnt know we had a formation anyway. i thought it was just "if your fit bring your boots"

I dont understand why we play Jags out of position, hes outstanding in centre defence, am i right thinking Jacobsens contract is up in the summer?

  13. How do you know this. ??? Has'nt played a game yet.

Ive seen him play for both Denmark and Hamurg (where he was prior joining Copenhagen), he likes to get forward and scores the occasional goal too, very similar to Baines, ok he aint played in the premiership yet, but Baines struggled to get a game when he joined.

Jags isnt a right back and should be playing in the spot which earned him his england cap in centre of defence.

I wouldn't mind seeing us trying Jacobsen at right back at all

  14. Fair point, but the injuries we have and the subs we have available at present in my opinion is alarming, we have more defence than offence available, even VDM injured somehow, maybe trying to pick his wallet up or who knows.

I reckon we need a bit of width and Jacobsen is a decent player so i think 5-3-2 would be worth a shot
