  1. I'm hoping that Cahill, as groomsman, can pull a little sneaky trick and slip a new 5-year Everton contract in for Mikel to sign while he's signing his marriage papers at the wedding.

Two birds with one stone and all that.

That's what I was thinking! The perfect wedding present Mikel!!!

Plus five more year's of Mikel's wife at Goodison, that is something to look forward too....

  2. Do we not?

    Eg

    2009 Heitinga Bily

    2008 Felli Saha

    2007 Yakubu Baines Jags Pienaar

    2006 Johnson Lescott

The Johnson and Yak buys were from bank loans as Moyes pushed Kenwright to find him so more cash. Then when the banks went t*ts up they wouldn't offer any more money so Moyes has had to sell to buy the past two seasons (Johnson and Lescott) Both those players were fairly replaceable but the likes of Arteta and Pienaar are irreplaceable at the minute so Moyes would rather (to use his well worn phrase) "go with what he has got"

It is frustrating though because I don't believe it wold take a lot of money to turn us into a great side, the way Moyes gets the best out of his players just give him say £20million a summer (which in football terms isn't a great amount) and he would get us into the Champions League no problem

  3. Scotland striker Kris Boyd has revealed that he is excited by the challenge of playing for Middlesbrough in the Championship next season.

The former Ranger’s forward joins the Teesside club on a reported two-year-deal and will team-up with former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan.

Gers manager Walter Smith was resigned to losing his top goalscorer as the club struggle with financial difficulties despite an excellent season last term.

Boyd revealed that a number of clubs were after him but Boro was the right choice for him.

He said: “I’m delighted to finally have my future sorted out.

“I’ve had a few offers to consider and it’s been a case of talking to my family about the positives and negatives of each one.

“Middlesbrough have always been very appealing. Strachan has big plans and has made me feel wanted,” he added.

Rangers player to work with ex-Celtic boss, Blues fans won't be too happy with that!

  4. i think another good marketing plan. ive been impressed with kit bag, and i quite like the shirts so far.

i think it was genius bringing out the away shirt first too.

more people buy the home shirt, bring out the away shirt first, get the impatient sales and then hit us with the home shirt.

oh, and dixie's statue in the shirt is a hell of an idea, i hope it fits him properly though

Agreed, plus they have tried to cover all corners of the market. They have a modern, quirky design for the away kit, but a traditional design for the home. It is all to make money of course but it is nice to see they are putting some thought into it.

  5. Fulham owner Mohamed Al-Fayed believes manager Roy Hodgson will stick with the Cottagers rather than make the move to Liverpool (Hodgson 10/11f to be the next Liverpool manager).

Hodgson, who led Fulham to last season’s Europa League final, is the heavy favourite to take charge at Anfield following Rafael Benitez’s departure, but Al-Fayed expects Hodgson to remain at Craven Cottage.

Al-Fayed is quoted as saying: “I don’t think he’ll leave me.

“I’m sure he’ll have lots of approaches from other clubs, but I give him anything he wants to reach results and we have a very good relationship.”

A number of names have been linked with the Liverpool hot-seat (Liverpool 16/1 to win the 2010/2011 Premier League), including Jurgen Klinsman, Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill and Kenny Dalglish.

Liverpool’s American owners are actively looking to sell the club but they are expected to appoint a new boss before the start of the new campaign even if they have failed to find a buyer.

  6. The Aussies struggle for goals WITH Cahill in the side so how they are supposed to score enough to beat Ghana without him I don't know. I thought it was a bad tackle but it was never a red card. It is such a shame that card happy refs have the power to wreck pinnacle moments in players' careers like that.

  7. And what's with the giant cue balls to his right?? Very odd pic.

Apparently according to this World Cup article he is a doubt for the Germany game with an elbow injury. Considering he is the only Oz player capable of scoring a goal (a permanently crocked Harry Kewell aside) I'm sure he will make the game, even if half fit.

  8. Noooo Joooo!!!!!!

Glad we got shot of him, as for this new guy well I loke most Toffess don't know much about him, fingers crossed Moyes' scouting has unearthed another gem!

How much did he cost? As I read somewhere it was £500,000 but the Star (unreliable I know) said £3.5million - we surely haven't got that much to spend on untried youngsters???

  9. New Zealand coach Ricki Herbert has hailed his side’s victory over Serbia as the greatest in their history.

The ‘All Whites’ beat Serbia 1-0 on Saturday after taking the lead in the first-half with a goal from Shane Smeltz. The Serbs had constant possession in the second half, but failed to find an equaliser.

Ricki Herbert was delighted with the result: “It was without doubt the greatest footballing victory in our history.

“But I was even more satisfied with our performance. This match boosts the confidence of everybody.”

The shock result prompted angry scenes from the Serbian supporters, who threw missiles on to the pitch in frustration. One fan even invaded the pitch, which prompted Serbian defender Namanja Vidic to grab a microphone and appeal for calm from the crowd.

Despite the victory, Herbert is under no allusions regarding the difficulty of his team’s task in South Africa: “We are still outsiders.

“My country lost all its matches at the 1982 World Cup finals and we want to change that record.”

Herbert appeared twice in the 1982 World Cup as New Zealand lost all three of their games. This will be their first appearance in a World Cup since that tournament and New Zealand will compete in Group F against Italy, Paraguay and Slovakia.

Maybe Tim Cahill's Australia can sneak through their group after all?! I tipped Serbia to be this year's dark horses!

  10. The end of James Vaughan's Everton career?

Probably, as much as I hate to say it. The lad can't seem to string 5-6 games together. If he sell him for a couple of million and have Beckford replace him on the bench, I think that's a good bit of business by Moyes

  11. I think Arteta will stay this summer as he fully recovers form his injury. However if has another brilliant season and we don't make 4th I think he will leave, and I wouldn't blame him. He deserves to play at the highest level.

  12. Premier League betting blog:Redknapp ready for City bullies

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has accused Manchester City (evens top four finish) of trying to financially bully other sides in their bid to secure a Champions League spot.

Redknapp takes his Spurs side to Eastlands on Wednesday night looking for the win that would guarantee the north London outfit a top four finish.

Redknapp has opted to crank up the tension ahead of the game by accusing City of flexing their financial muscle and bullying Tottenham out of buying Craig Bellamylast January.

Spurs had been after the Welsh international until, according to Redknapp, they were told to end their interest in the winger or risk losing Wilson Palacios.

“I was trying to sign Bellamy at the same time as Palacios,” said Redknapp.

“Then they came and told me ‘You know, if you don’t drop out of Bellamy, we’ll sign Palacios too and you won’t get either of them’.”

City have denied Redknapp’s allegations and are considering legal action against the former Portsmouth boss, whose comments are likely to stoke the fires for what was already a highly charge affair.

  13. No way is Yobo worth 6million plus, we would be lucky to get 4mil for him now. TBH I don't think wholesale changes are needed. Distin and Johnny with Fellaini just in front is a solid looking back line. We need a bit of pace in the side and ideally a winger but barring another injury crisis (and with no Europa League to make wear out the players) we should be able to mount a challenge for 4th

  14. We are usually quite bad at bringing out the kits on time, I', remember one year (think it was 1997/98) the kit wasn't released till like September!! Plus that was the year we had the tacky one2one stickers plastered over the old Danka away kits and sold as new.

    Things have improved since then....slightly!

  15. Everton chairman Bill Kenwright says reports linking Blues boss David Moyes with the Manchester United job are not true.

Moyes’ name has frequently been mentioned as a contender for the United post when Sir Alex Ferguson finally calls it a day at Old Trafford.

There were suggestions in recent weeks that the former Preston chief was being lined up to take over at the end of next season but Moyes himself dismissed the rumours as “nonsense”.

And now Everton supremo Kenwright has done the same, insisting the Blues value the Scot very highly while he also said suggestions they would let him leave for United at some point in the future are wide of the mark.

Kenwright said: “It’s absolute nonsense to infer that we would let David depart for Manchester United with our blessing.

“If a day like that ever did occur, Evertonians know that I would fight tooth and nail to keep our manager where he belongs.

“Everyone will have read both David Moyes and Alex Ferguson’s comments and what they both describe as typical summer speculation madness.”

Despite all this, however, it is well known Fergie rates Moyes very highly and will include his close friend on a list of candidates he recommends for the United job when he does quit as the Red Devils boss.

  16. Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard claims the side are ‘desperate’ to win the Europa League this season, but feels the squad needs up to four quality players to give them a chance of winning the Premier League title next term.

Gerrard said: “There are teams that have grown significantly in recent times, like Chelsea. In addition, Manchester United have been too strong [for us] for many years.

“Last year we came close to beating them but it is very difficult to overcome such a powerful team.

“Everyone knows that we must learn from this season. Some players have said we need a stronger squad and the key is to have better players and improve. I do not believe in profound changes or a revolution. Three or four quality players should be enough but more quality than quantity.

“The Premier League is the food of this club. We haven’t won it for such a long time and the crowd demand it.

“They want us to win this more than any other competition. We must continue to fight for this, hopefully finishing fourth this season and having a real go next season.

“After finishing second last year we started this season with the idea of winning the league and the Champions League.

“After a series of bad results we had to change targets. Now the fans are desperate for us to win the Europa League. It’s the only trophy left for us to fight for and we want to win it.”

Football Blog: Gerrard talks up Europa League

Yes Steven, the Premier League is obviously the food of your club considering you haven't won it since 1990.
