Guest Reg Reagan
i know contracts mean fuck all in football these days but just wondering... if a sports player walks out on his team, his teamates and his contract flees the country to play for another team or another sport to earn better money while he is still under sontract with his current team... is it right for the club to pursue legal action against the player whilst walking out of his contract even though he has no release clause? DonKey
Agreed- Contracts are pretty meaningless now. Think the Bulldogs should sue SBW until he bleeds from his eyes!
Fozastuta
I'm pretty sure, a contract is legal binding, and if broken, compensation can become an issue. Players should not break contract, like clubs honour contracts of players like Andy Shandy. Its a civil rather than a criminal matter. troy8
yeah they dont mean anything these days. in relation to the bulldogs situation with sonny bill williams, i think they will lodge legal action, and probably win some compensation, but at the end of the day it wont make him return to play for them again... troy8
What did he do? last saturday he walked out on his club, without warning or apparently without telling his team mates or the club, flying immeadiately to london with the desire to travel to france to play rugby union for a lot more money than he was earning in australia playing rugby league. he had to go to london as he is currently waiting on a french visa. his club no doubt are very angry about this and are now trying to declare legal action against him, with penalties apart from compensation being possible arrest and/or seizure of possessions

A salary cap is a restraint of trade which prevents players to earn more money. from my understanding, canterbury have fucked with his 3rd party sponsors nike when he was doing adverts for them
