Louis
These proposals don't sit well with me. http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Publicationsandstatistics/Legislation/Actsandbills/HealthandSocialCareBill2011/index.htm I'm hoping that the bill is knocked back
FanchesterCity
"... the Government’s vision to modernise the NHS so that it is built around patients, led by health professionals and focused on delivering world-class healthcare outcomes" What a load of crap. It's the usual drivel spouted by management and consultancy firms. Soundbites for the plebians - 'patients' 'choice' 'world-class'. I'm always in two minds about aspects of any service being 'liberated' (outsourced!). On the one hand, I do believe some private sector companies could kick some ass and whip a few departments into shape, but, equally, the NHS is an oil tanker and impossible to steer via some 'crack team' taking over small aspects of it. And, of course, businesses are... erm businesses. The 'win win' crap is relatively rare. Usually, when you shake hands with the devil (a private sector outfit) you need to check your watch hasn't been nicked. I'm making sweeping generalisations but they're often a bit sharper, and bit more street wise and take more than they give. The contracts favour them (but public sector legal teams aren't on the ball etc etc). Anyway, back to the bill... it's not that long ago that the huge NHS monolith was broken down so that local authorities (or small groups of them) could make and manage their own fate (sort of), then it's back to less of them, and more central control. It's the same old pattern that happens across most of the public sector. Centralised / regionalises / centralised / regionalised af infinitum How can you ACTUALLY have an 'independent NHS Board' to allocate resources? sounds nice. But, they have a budget. A budget determined by government. They get n billion, and that's that. However, the government then absolves itself from the mess by stating the 'independent board' makes the choices - very timely given the drastic cuts that are coming. What say you?
