He added in L'Equipe: "I want to leave Rennes.

Everton are offering me 1.5 million euros a year - Rennes could never offer me that much.

"I owe everything to Rennes, my formative club. But they must understand me. In Africa, I have a family to feed. And I am very ambitious.

"Everton are a very established club in the Premier League, managed by David Moyes, a coach who puts trust in youngsters.

"I have spoken to him on the phone. He wanted to invite me to visit the club. I hadn't the time to do it."

  2. I can see us dropping out of the top half this season. Europe will not be seen again.

Maybe there's a hint of panic in that statement as well Licker ;)

I've got to say i am starting to panic a little. Almost of our targets seem to be staying with thier clubs or moving somewhere else. I still think we can go for the players that are mentioned all of this website (Moutinho, Cana, Topal) and have these back up plans (Smith). If i have a choice then no i wouldn't want Smith here but when nothing else is available i would take him.

Like i said i'd leave it until 10 to window closing though as i think he's shit.

And just for the record i'd have taken Gera too, now he would have been a great squad player on fairly low wages.

  3. I can see your points of view and yes we need numbers but i just don't think he's good enough. Fair enough at ten to window closing i'd take him in desperation.

Plus Newcastle are letting him go for half what they paid 12 months ago when he played for england, they won't do that lightly, there's got to be a reason why.

And he's right a horrible bastard!

  4. didn't Smith start for England twice last year?

I'm not sure mate but i can't see him getting into an england side now, no chance, where would he play? As i said he doesn't score goals and he's not a midfielder. Who would he replace in either of those positions?

I do agree with you Paul that a manager should always look to get the best deal possible. But selling Johnson for 10 million and bringing in Smith as a replacement for 3 just doesn't work for me. If he's going to replace Johnson with a striker and improve on what we had/have he needs to spend the lot.

He could be lucky and get a Santa Cruz but people are talking about Smith here and thats just not going to happen.

I feel like people are clutching at straws here, he's not the answer.

  5. Look at it this way we've lost and england b teamer for £10.5m and poss. replaced him with another for £3m. If he doesn't start every week then nor did AJ, if he doesn't score every week/month nor did AJ.

I wouldn't put Alan Smith down as an england B teamer.

And thats not moving forward or improving. Alan Smith offers nothing other than a making up numbers and if someone is going to make up numbers they need to be a very average wage which he won't be on.

Plus he's crap, he can't score for shit and isn't a midfielder.

If you get 10 million for a striker you spend at least 10 million on a striker to improve on what you had.

  6. About time too.

At least thats the money sorted for Fletcher and Smith! :D

    Yeah, nice one ;)

I'm worried that we won't be able to attract the right players and we will have to settle for signings like this.

I see other clubs making sigins and think to myself are we aiming for the wrong calibre of player? Trying to punch above our weight? And then i remember we finished 5th last seaon and had a really good (and credible) run in Europe so no.

I think it just comes down to money, individual greed and not ambition from players which bothers greatly.

  7. apparently if arsenal dont get alonso the pappers linked them with a move for joao

Wenger has made it very clear that he's after an experienced midfielder, no more 'kids'. Don't reckon Moutinho fits that bill at all. They are also being linked with Cana who i would see as more likely target for them.

  8. anyone realise we need a squad and for 1.5 ime sure he would fit in....trust moyes.

If thats the case lets just sign any old shit to make up numbers!

Kenwright has been going on saying Moyes won't bring anyone in who won't improve the squad, he won't improve our squad for any other reason that for numbers.

I'll be gutted if we sign this guy. A true sign of desperation.

  9. he's shit these days. I would have had him back in the day but he's not what we need right now. Can't score (has scored something like 7 since 2004), gets booked/sent off way too much and is generally a horrible bastard.

If these rumours are true (which i doubt very much they are) why on earth would Newcastle let him go for as little as 1.5 million when they paid 6 million for him 12 months ago?

Because he's a waste of wages.

  10. Slightly off topic but i wasn't sure where else to put this as it's not a rumour ..... i merely seek your opinions.

Would anyone like to see us spend the money on Alonso instead of Moutinho?

I understand it's purely hypothetical but he's Artetas best mate, he's settled in/around liverpool area so woudln't have to move?

Not sure how much he's on at Liverpool?

Obvisouly there's a lot more to it than what i've said but i'd gladly take a proven premiership player at his prime than gamble on a young 'promising' player.

  11. The short answer (speaking for myself) is NO.

I do not see the connection with big money being put into the club by a new owner, and the obsession with becoming an out of town side.

I'm not a massive fan of moving out of the city, i would much sooner improve Goodison etc. The way i see it is that an investor coming in will see the club as more of an attractive option if it's already in place.

Plus there's the Liverpool factor, some investors (I'm not saying i agree) might see it we would always be in there shadow.

  12. Again i reckon you should take this story with a pinch of salt. Some quarters are saying that we need to sell him becausde of the money some are saying that that Moyes wants to swap him with Warnock.

You don't buy someone for 6 million and swap him for a kopite reject a year later without giving him chance to play for your team and prove yourself.
