1. Stevo said........"thats crazy, you can use facts to prove anything!"

    ............

    And thats a fact.  :)

no. you can't use facts to prove anything.

you can misuse statistics, but in a case like this there would be no point. no-one has anything to gain.

the statto index has a 92% accuracy record over the last ten seasons. that doesnt make it perfect but it does make it pretty good and worth noting.

  2. Hansen also said in the same article...

Everton's 3-0 win over Liverpool at Goodison Park was a huge victory over their near neighbours.

Every time a team steps on to the pitch at Goodison these days they know they are in for one hell of a game - a very different situation to four or five years ago.

....I think overall it was a fair assessment.

no i dont agree. we never looked like losing and they never looked like winning.

apart from a couple of periods they werent much of a threat. our midfield and defence had them pretty well under control.

and upfront aj ran them ragged.

they werent that close to scoring. only one of sg's shots looked any good, and as for the penalty shout he would probably have missed it like he did for england against portugal, the useless tosspot!

  3. its pretty much one way traffic at the moment. apart from the late and unlamented rooney we seem to be doing well out of united.

howard and phil neville have turned out to be good acquisitions.

ferguson is a very smart manager and i believe that he is on good terms with moyes, who was once offered the job as his assistant.

he could be a mentor for davey and thats no bad thing.

he should also be greatful that he got rooney out of us.

as far as i can see the relationships good for Everton.

so far so good. but popularity can plummet overnite in the premier league.

glenn roeder is on 48%! :(

stuart pearce is on 52%, as is neale warnock, and arsene wenger is only on 55%.

jose mourinho is only on 61% while old man ferguson is on 88%

i didnt go thru them all but moysey on 89% may be on the top of the manager approval ratings!

  5. "MY point wasn't to suggest that you WILL falter, only that 4 games in is WAY too soon to be boasting about your performance overall."

not so sure about that. things are so tight in the premiership these days that you can't afford to drop too many points. you certainly can't afford to fall too far behind the leaders.

they say the league can't be won in september, but it can be lost!

for example arsenal are already ten points behind manu!

even for a team with all their talent, thats a serious deficit. manu arent n the habit of throwing away ten point leads to anyone, anytime.

this season could be a turning point. it seems to me that clubs are no longer intimidated by chelsea or manu or any of the usual suspects.

we could be witnessing the start of a changing of the guard.

    "The Science Behind Statto Index

The Index has been developted and tested over many years, using around 25 years worth of results and approximately 10 years of bookmakers odds to test the accuracy and profitability of the system. Naturally, no system is perfect but we believe we have as close as we can get. For the mathematically minded, the correlation between our forecasts and actual results is approximately 0.92, which means that approximately 92% of the final outcome is explained by the prior forecast."

hard to see watford going down, they look to good to me, but it will be interesting to see how they all finish at the end of the season and compare the reality with the predictions.

  7. Yeh good post rob .

I think alot of people forget that Moyes in manager terms is still relativly young and still learning his trade but this season he's been superb in his decisiveness and getting the players in early so they have time to settle has only helped the team aa a whole .

Its still early days but the future is looking good for the Blues .

    49842

thats true, but its also true that some players simply didnt want to sign for Everton. even when we finished 4th they considered it a fluke.

we had been relegation fodder for so long that we were not an attractive option to many players.

moysey has now turned things around and we are a much more serious outfit.

i think there is only one regular first team player left over from walter smiths days is naysmith.

its now a david moyes Everton.

and altho there is still room for improvement, its looking very good.

  8. A good article on the BBC website by Alan Hansen. He makes a few good points!

"The Premiership title cannot be won in August or September - but it can certainly be lost.

We are only a handful of games into the new season but Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham need to start winning. Liverpool have got to turn it around quickly

Arsenal, for example, have played three times and, despite dominating possession in all of those games, have yet to win.

The Gunners face Manchester United on Sunday - lose that and they will already be 13 points behind Sir Alex Ferguson's team.

Even for a club with so many quality players like Arsenal, trying to make up a 13-point deficit is a massive ask.

Everton's 3-0 win over Liverpool at Goodison Park was a huge victory over their near neighbours.

Every time a team steps on to the pitch at Goodison these days they know they are in for one hell of a game - a very different situation to four or five years ago. ...

Portsmouth.... Their defensive unit includes David James, Glen Johnson and Sol Campbell - all three had critics last season but you cannot get away from the fact they were all in England squads.

James has gone walkabout many times but is a very competent keeper, Johnson will mature into a very good player as he gains experience and Campbell has seen and done it all.

The three players have cost Pompey less than £2m and I think that 90% of the Premiership would have been keen on that sort of business. "

    Story from BBC SPORT:

  9. I think this games is going to be very hard.  I would not be surprised if we only got a draw.  1 v 1 with Ossie scoring

    49567

all games in the premiership are very hard.

but i sense that the squad are very, very hungry. they are up for anything and they are determined to prove themselves.

i feel sorry for wigan theyve lost a couple of their best, and after the fantastic first season i think they are gong to come down to earth with a bang this time.

i believe that come next year they could be in survival mode.

but come saturday, given the mood at Everton fc, they could be sacrificial lambs.

  10. The only 'status' they get for fighting in the name of their club is with the fans of the other clubs who fight with them. That in comparison to the rest of the supporters is a minority. Most other people just think they're losers with little to no intelligence or education. Look at the interview on 'The Real Football Factory' A-Typical' every one they spoke to, almost a parody.

    48966

they're as thick as a dockers sandwich. and theyve obviously got emotional and character issues.
