  1. Andy van der Meyde has been suspended by David Moyes following a breach of club discipline.

The Dutch winger was not involved at Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday evening and he is not in the squad for the weekend game at Reading.

van der Meyde has been disciplined following his non-appearance at training on the Sunday following the opening day success against Wigan Athletic at Goodison Park.

He has subsequently been suspended for a week by the manager and he has been handed the maximum fine possible.

"Andy has had numerous warnings about this type of thing and we won't tolerate it any longer," said Moyes.

"I will make a decision regarding the player's future next week."

  2. A senior stadium analyst insists plans put forward for a ground on the Scotland Road 'loop' site in Liverpool would not be able to accomodate 50,000 seats.

Earlier this summer the Blues announced plans to move to a brand new 50,000 seater stadium in Kirkby, as well as confirming that a fans' vote over the move would take place before any move is agreed.

Earlier this month, following the distribution of ballot papers, Liverpool City Council released a joint statement with cash & carry business Bestway detailing plans for a potential development at the Scotland Road site.

Tim Spencer, Director at Steer Davies Gleave - the company responsible for transport, crowd flow and evacuation capacity analysis for the Emirates Stadium, Croke Park, New Wembley and Stamford Bridge has dismissed the feasibility of the 'loop' site on Scotland Road as a possible site for a high specification 50,000 seat stadium.

After closely studying the site setting and current accessibility, Mr Spencer is quite adamant that the circa. 11-acre site could only safely house a stadium of around 30,000, although that figure could be stretched to a limit of 35,000.

Mr Spencer said: "It has been stated in the press that the Emirates Stadium occupies an 8-acre site. Ashburton Grove is in fact a 25-acre site with the stadium building itself taking up some 9-acres with a further 8 acres allocated to crowd circulation and access routes - with the remainder being given over to mostly residential development. The full and safe stadium operation therefore occupies 17 acres not the said 8.

"Owing to the onerous requirements regarding emergency vehicle access and the exact evacuation requirements for major sporting facilities, any stadium design must include large external circulation areas around the stadium to achieve a safety certificate - the licence to operate.

"Should the vast majority (i.e. enough land to accommodate a 50,000 capacity building) of the 'loop' site be developed out into a stadium, it could not meet the key criteria to receive its safety licence and it could not be opened to the public."

"The requirements are black and white on this subject. The site would only be, at best, suitable for a stadium of around 35,000 seats.

"To make the design revealed today operate in a safe fashion would prove to be prohibitively expensive for Everton Football Club because of the necessary and perhaps extensive 'air right' building construction over highways and the need to provide connecting bridges to adjacent 'place of safety' areas and adequate pedestrian circulation and emergency vehicle access routes.

"All of this would have to be funded at great cost without the benefit of any large retail-led development that would, in the case of Kirkby, enable the development of a stadium with no operating/licensing risk to the club.

"Despite the very wide roads that surround the loop site on all sides the local transport links to the area are not very good - especially when compared to Kirkby given the raft of local transport improvements that would come forward with the new stadium there.

"In short, the loop site is a complete non-starter for Everton FC unless they were seeking a site to accommodate 35,000 fans and no more."

  3. I havnt realy followed all the other options , just realy looked at the actuall kirkby site. So im sorry if my question sounds realy dumb.

Why wouldnt tesco still suport us if it was scotland rd and not kirkby. (or any other site in liverpool for that matter) Why will they only support us on the kirkby site?

  4. Two possible alternatives to the proposed new stadium in Kirkby have entered the public arena in the last week.

A joint statement from Bestway and Liverpool City Council on Monday revealed proposals for a possible development off Scotland Road - dubbed the 'Scotland Road Loop' - whilst suggestions for improvements at Goodison Park have been made public by KEIOC.

Top architects from The KSS Design Group have analysed the KEIOC proposals. They have highlighted a number of factors which make it clear the suggestion that the current Goodison site could be utilised to develop a ground with a 25% increase in capacity is not viable.

A spokesman for KSS said: "This does not stand up to expert scrutiny for the following reasons:

"1 - Setting aside additional land acquisition, phasing complexity, the likely difficulty in obtaining planning approval and the overall financial non-viability, the report does not demonstrate in the first instance that a larger capacity stadium can be built on the site.

"2 - The holistic redevelopment proposal impacts heavily on the surrounding residential area. The oversailing of site boundaries on Goodison Road and Bullens Road, and loss of amenity and adverse effect on daylight and sunlight to adjoining residential properties are raised as potential problems (which they are), but not addressed as part of the solution, whilst the loss of the junior school on Bullens Road is simply ignored altogether.

"3 - The principles behind the provision of safe access and egress for the increased number of spectators in and around the stadium are not understood or addressed. The proposal continues to rely on the existing surrounding road infrastructure to accommodate the additional match day capacity without demonstrating the additional space necessary to do so safely. Access to seating areas oversailing the site boundaries is not addressed.

"4 - The proposal concentrates on providing as much seating as possible, but ignores the detailed requirements of current safety design legislation, which will have a major impact on overall capacity. Seating and gangway provisions to upper tiers do not comply with acceptable standards, and huge cantilevered upper tiers will either require intermediate support columns which in turn blight sightlines, or alternatively massive balancing structures to the rear. Access and seating provision for disabled spectators is ignored completely.

"5 - Goodison Park is already one of the tightest larger stadia in the UK with poor seating and back of house standards for general spectators and a relatively low hospitality capacity. Even accepting that the moving of the pitch to the south will generate space for a larger (but not necessarily larger capacity) Gwladys Street stand, and the release of car park area will allow a larger Park End stand, the higher space standards required for modern stadia mean it must be questionable whether it is feasible to build a modern stadium of the same current capacity of just over 40,000, let alone one at least 25% larger."
