  1. I don't believe he orchastrated the move, more likely MSI who have bought themselves an infinitely better deal. Fernandes didn't owe us anything, this deal should have been signed sealed and delivered at the start of the transfer window. Valencia paid more money, have better players and can offer Champions League football, good weather and its only a short trip from his home country. If you didnt support Everton which would you chose

Everton in £3 million move for Owl Brunt

    Toffees out to beat Sanchez

Former Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez is facing competition from Premier League rivals Everton in the race to sign international winger Chris Brunt before the transfer deadline at the end of this month.

Fulham boss Sanchez had Brunt earmarked to complete a handful of Northern Ireland players at Craven Cottage, after completing the signings of Chris Baird, Aaron Hughes, Steve Davis and David Healy over the summer.

He made his move last month by tabling an offer to Sheffield Wednesday for the 22-year-old, but had that bid rejected.

Although a further bid was expected, Fulham haven't returned with a better offer, leaving the door open for Everton to gatecrash the deal.

Their manager David Moyes is understood to be lining up a £3million move for Brunt and although the Owls claim that they won't sell, that is a figure which is more likely to tempt the Championship outfit.

Brunt had been in talks with Wednesday over a new deal, but those broke down recently and the club insist they have made their final offer.

The Toffees, who face Tottenham at White Hart Lane in a Premier League clash this evening, were today expected to splash out a club record £9million on Portuguese midfielder Manuel Fernandes, who had a loan spell at Goodison Park last season.

The 21-year-old Benfica player would, however, be ruled ineligible for Everton's UEFA Cup participation if he plays for his current club against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League tonight.

Brunt, also interesting West Ham and West Brom, was yesterday named in Nigel Worthington's first Northern Ireland squad for next week's Euro 2008 qualifier at home to Liechtenstein.

He is one player that should be fresh for that game as after playing against Ipswich Town on Saturday Brunt is now serving a three-match suspension following a sending-off in a pre-season friendly.

  3. Come on people, let us engage the brain God give us and think for a second. The Sky TV money has been with us for two months now, yet the club was scrimping around for free or cheap transfers. Now the vote papers are upon some of us, and the stories of sensational transfers are flying through the roof tops. On my way home from work, I was listening to Henry Winter saying clubs use the press to get the fans on side. And I maintain that we can not have 19 million to spend, when allegedly we have a budget of ten million! If so then why struggle to sign the likes of Vogel! We consistently been lied to by the board, yet naturally as supporters we get excited when we are linked to great players. The club knows this, hence my deep suspicions!

I have to say I'm suprised so many people have discounted this as a possibility. The Chairmanship of a football club is not so far removed from the world of politics where spin is commonly accepted as a genuine tactic. These bullshit bids are about as blatent as it gets.

  4. I found it quite an easy decision I just asked myself the following questions:

    1. Do we need to move?

    Ans Definatley yes

What exactly is going to happen if we don't move right now? Just because Wyness tells us Goodison will fall down within 5 years it doesnt make it true, he has his own agenda to push.

    2. Can we afford to pay for a new ground by ourselves?

    Ans Definately No

By we, you mean Kenwright. He is not 'Everton', as much as he'd like to think so.

  5. I didn't expect anything less from the same people who coined the 'Deal of the Century' and 'no Plan B'.

It doesn't say how many more years Goodison is sustainable for and why we HAVE to move right now. The main message start to finish is take what's on offer now or you will be responsible for the club's downfall.

  6. What announcement? It's unattributed on NSNO (and nowhere else as far as I can see). Get a grip.

Maybe you should take your head out the clouds and stop believing everything which is spoon fed to you through a PR machine on the official site.

Well it must be true then. How could I ever have doubted it  .

Not at all in KEIOC's interest to stir up a bit of suspicion and paranoia about the board is it. Not doubting that it's a rumour, just questioning the wisdom of accepting it as fact which one or two people have done. They'll be believing what they read in the Sun next ffs!

Funny it was actually true and stiring up suspicion is what you are doing against them. Psychologists call it projecting I think.

OK but why is it not attributed in the original article? Why has no-one else picked up on it? Why is he not listed on the official site as a director? I don't see though why it would be in their interests to sneak him in on the sly. He's perfectly entitled to a place on the board as a major investor so why would anyone have had a problem with that if it'd been done openly?

Something's not right....doesn't make sense to me.

What I want to know is why we now have another director who has been stated to have no interest in investing any money into the club, merely to offer Kenwright his support. What does he bring to the table apart from securing his good friend Bill's safety? This to go with our skint chairman who is mismanaging the club so badly any money we do get is dissapearing into an ever increasing debt or into his own pocket. Where has the TV revenue gone where we can't afford to pay more than 4m for a player before we have to start offering our own as part excahnge from our already thread bare squad.

  7. Spot on Hans. We've got a great deal which will mean no ongoing debt. This is the best possible way to attract future investment into the club. The board have been straight re. the wording of the question. Its not been loaded in favour of the move. Will those of you who are against the move then get behind the club if the votes in favour?

Our Chairman saying our stadium will be beyond repair in 10 years time and our CEO saying this is the only deal on the table "no plan B" seems pretty loaded to me.

  8. Looks promising, if he doesn't want to go to Sunderland they can't force him.

    from the independant

Sunderland's hopes of landing £6m Wigan full-back Leighton Baines appear to have been dashed. The 22-year-old defender has been included in the Latics squad for tonight's pre-season friendly at Blackpool after recovering from a virus. Roy Keane was given permission to talk to the player earlier this week after having had three previous bids rejected. However, as speculation mounted yesterday that Everton - Baines was born in Liverpool - had tabled a counter-bid, Wigan claimed he would not be heading for the Stadium of Light, and sources on Wearside have confirmed that is the case.

  9. Disgusting. I expected to be jealous but I'm happy to say this brought a smile to my eyes. I don't like ours or their design but if we were spending 300 million on that I'd be devastated. Just reinforces the fact you money can't buy you class or taste (speaking of which it was just on the radio Jordan and andre named their daughter Princess Tiaamii..... )

  10. Too many consiricy theories

Basically, he is BK's mate, so by being on the board they can vote together and force anything through, regardless of what anyone else wants.

And you think this is a good thing? Should be interesteing if the vote doesn't go they way they want, they can just force it through anyway. Regardless of the results next season or the following, BKs position is rock solid no matter what. How many Premiership teams have directors like our two who don't have the will or in Bills case, the means to invest in the playing squad? Not only that but money is going missing. That's not a theory have a look at the accounts for the last 4 years.

Yes we are away from the relegation scraps of the nineties, for now. But we are trading water with no money, while promoted teams and those who escaped the Championship by single digits are investing heavily. Call it irresponsible or call it survival of the fittest, it's the way the world turns.

  11. I always thought kenright bringing him in as merely a silent major share holder was bullshit. It's no coincidence this announcement comes shortly before the stadium's announcement. Soon as its built he'll cash in his chips and ride off into the hills with BK.

  12. A lot of the papers reported the least a team in the Premeiership would be getting this year from TV rights was £30m plus whatever each league position gets you, last year it was £500k per. Then you have the £12-13M from season ticket sales and the sale of Davies in January and Naysmith. We reportedly have double the debt from when Johnson was bought out and have invested only 5 and a half million on the balance of transfers since. Lets just put our trust in Bill right?

  13. Thanks :)

What would you prefer ? Redevelop Goodison, one of those sites or Kirkby?

I would personally prefer we didn't move out of Liverpool and after seeing the cheap design proposal more so. If it means wait another five years until we find the investment then so be it. Goodison isn't going to fall down in that time depsite what they would have us believe.

They are talking of having it completed by 2010 the same time as Liverpool's, Kenwright knows he is treading water at the moment and this all has the air of a rush job about it. They should exhaust every possibility with the council before going ahead but I'd be amazed if this wasn't already a signed deal and we are just being soft soaped.

  14. Cllr Bradley last night unveiled three alternative sites which he has identified as possible new homes for Everton – in Aintree, Speke and perhaps most intriguingly, in Everton itself.

He also believes the redevelopment of Goodison Park should remain an option with support from the city council.

Cllr Bradley said: “Everton Football Club entered a period of exclusivity with Knowsley Council over their plans to relocate outside of the city boundaries. Until now, despite growing concerns from the supporter associations and pressure from the media, I have chosen to remain silent publicly on this matter so not to jeopardise any potential deal.

“Today, I have decided to clarify my position as leader of the council.

‘AS AN Evertonian and as the leader of this city council, I have been working with the club, commercial partners and the supporters, to come up with an alternative plan to keep Everton in the city.”

He has thrown down the gauntlet to the club to consider the sites which are off Scotland Road, the main council housing depot in Long Lane, Aintree, and the new car holding compound next to the New Mersey Retail Park at Speke.

Other options have included building on the Edge Lane Retail Park and the Central Docks, though Port of Liverpool owner Peel has insisted a stadium will never be built on its land. The Edge Lane option would take too long to assemble.

So just how realistic are Cllr Bradley’s options? The list has come from his own political office at the town hall, rather than as a formal city council pronouncement.

Two sites have been identified on the Liver Industrial Estate in Aintree. The biggest site occupies the Long Lane housing depot, once the nerve centre for the repair and maintenance of tens of thousands of city council houses.

With houses now handed over to housing associations and social landlords, the whole landscape of housing maintenance has changed, hence the availability of the site, close to the Jacobs biscuit factory. The stadium and ancillary facilities may well have to spill over on to adjoining sites to enable a site of sufficient size to be gathered. Although Long Lane is close to the A580 East Lancashire Road and the M57, there could well be traffic issues. On the plus side, the freehold of much of the site is owned by the city council. As a brownfield site, it is unlikely to be called in for review by the Government.

The Axis Site off Speke Road is currently used to store thousands of brand new cars, many of them from the Jaguar plant at nearby Halewood. They are stored at this compound for shipment by road or rail. The site was originally identified as a potential home for Liverpool FC when they were seeking a new home. It sits next to the increasingly busy New Mersey Shopping Park.

The site is large, is bordered on one side by the main Liverpool to London West Coast line and has the best road network links of any of the sites. It is more than 12 miles from Goodison Park, eight more than the distance between Goodison and the Kirkby site.

The Tunnel Trumpet site off Scotland Road, actually bringing Everton closer to the city. This is essentially an island site, created by the building of the entry and exit roads to the Wallasey Tunnel. The site is currently occupied by cash and carry warehouse Bestway which plans to build a new base elsewhere. With council-owned land alongside, the site could easily accommodate a new stadium but would need to include a commercial/residential development alongside to make the finances work which could create planning difficulties. The big plus is that it actually falls within the Everton boundaries. It is within walking distance of the city centre and is well served by existing Merseyrail services.

Malcolm Carter, head of property for Bestway Holdings, said: “We have recently been presented with an opportunity which, for the city, would combine the massive desirability of allowing Everton FC to remain within the city of Liverpool and come home to Everton, while acting as a catalyst for the regeneration of the wider area.

“This would involve developing a new stadium and associated commercial enterprises both within our existing location and on neighbouring sites.

“Bestway already has a design team in place and are in discussion with a stadium contractor about working up proposals which, from an initial assessment, are very feasible. We know that a football stadium will fit into our site and could work in this location. It would be the blue heart of the city.”

Cllr Bradley’s last – though not least option – is the refurbishment of Goodison Park. The ground could be improved as part of a major regeneration initiative for the area. Though the club insists that a refurbished Goodison Park is not on the agenda, the option may well have to be considered if fans reject a move to Kirkby. Cllr Bradley says architects and planners who have examined the stadium insist it could be easily renovated.

The problem for the club would be loss of income during phased renovation projects and the need to carry out a transport and environment impact study should the aim be to increase the capacity of the ground.
