  1. I was impressed with his running... he didnt track back to often however.... although I guess that wasnt something Moyes had specifically asked him to do.....

His end product isnt the best though......and his ability to pick out the right pass needs improving.....

I wouldnt have give him MOTH myself......

I gave it to Tony Hibbert

  2. If Pienaar wants to leave Everton it will be for money or the chance to win trophies.

I would say with a fit squad Everton are just as likely as liverpool to win trophies over the next couple of seasons, so you can rule that one out.If it's trophies he's after then a Man Utd or Chelsea approach would be a worry, plus with the trophies goes the obvious extra money.

Would he go to liverpool who are a couple of points ahead of us, and that's after spending mega millions, just for a few extra grand a week!

If I were Moyes I'd give Pienaar as much as I could afford + a bit!, he's been our best player this season.

The asking price for Pienaar (should he wish to leave) will be interesting, surely one for rafa and one for the rest!

Thats got to be worth a bet........ How much are you willing to put down on that then?

  3. I think we could fill a 50K seater stadium easily but Im not sure about average attendances.... I think we would struggle to achieve an average of more than 45K if honest....at the anyway... we need a few thousand day trippers like them lot across the park

As for the whole redevelopment of Goodison park thing.... Im sure the objective is to not only increase attendance but increase the proportion of high value seats.. ie corporate and box.

  4. Liverpool will put in twenty diferent protests if they don't get 4th,such as it was the refs fault, Gillette and Hicks fault, Rafa has been dealt unfairly fault and even Gerrard suffered a loss of form while he sweated on the outcome of a) clearly elbowing a player in the head and B) clearly putting two fingers up to the ref. They will have a large petition going in the Echo, demanding their right to be a part of the 'Sky 4', march from the City Centre to anfield complete with their effigy of the'Rafatolla' (I kid you not), placards and badges proclaiming 'Justice for US for 4th' whilst chanting Scandinavian/ Norse mythology songs in Oirish accents. The FA will uphold all of their appeals and promote Liverpool to 4th, no matter where they finish, deduct Everton, Spurs, Villa and Man City 40 points each then automatically relegate them so that they can have their cherished 4th spot guaranteed for the near future. Bitter, me.....never.

P.S.City to pip Spurs by a point for 4th :D

If I'm right don't the Europa league winners enter the qualifying round of the champions league...... So we can all see what's going to happen there... No complaints from Liverpool I bet doh!

  5. It's been time all season long IMO.

If he's being replaced as the supporting midfielder to the striker then I'd go for Bily; I think he'd be brilliant floating around there. But if it's as a central midfielder then I'd put Osman in for him.

Im guessing Billy may get his chance next season......

  6. Tim Cahill hasnt been at his best this lately and hasn't really had the impact of previous seasons...do you think this is due to injury or does the team now just perform better playing a different way?

Games just seem to pass Cahill by when he plays in that central role and he rarely offers anything except an attacking threat at set pieces.

I personally think he should be used on occasion when game tactics permit.... He performs brilliantly in that role just behind the lone forward but that still requires and encourages us to play a more direct long ball game.... Is that really what Everton are now?

Osman has performed well recently and has changed games by adding a little composure into the midfield... if only he was more consistent...

So should Cahill be dropped as we perform better without him or is he an important part of our starting 11..

  7. I wouldn't like to get rid of anyone..... lets try and keep the squad together.... Hopefully as I don't think we need any major changes Id just use any money we had to add depth to our current squad.....

If pushed and we could get decent offers for the Yak and Billy Id let them go and replace like for like..... However I wouldnt be happy unless we had replacements in early....

I think this years cash will go to securing players and improving player contracts.... Something Id be happy with....

  8. Personally my view is that the subject needs to be debated in general terms rather than specific Everton players in order to look at it objectively.

    There are some principles that apply with the majority (but not all) players in today's game;

    1) If there is interest from a top 4/5 club, they will more often than not be interested. The chance to play regular CL football and compete for honours is too tempting - and fair play to them for this ambition.

    2) Top 4/5 clubs can offer a salary that generally other sides can't. Man City have to be included as part of this now, arguably more so than Liverpool or Arsenal given that City are seemingly happy to write blank cheques.

    3) Young talented players will give consideration to staying with their existing club for another year or so if there is more chance of more first team football to build their experience up. However, they will offset this against the risk of their playing career ending tomorrow by injury. If they are on £20k a week or £50k a week then it matters in terms of their insurance/contract as to what extent they have given themselves long term financial security.

    4) Agents. The agent goes on at them. Whether we like it or not agents play a big part in these decisions. And just like a salesman who is on commission, it is in the agents interest to secure a move to a top 4 club.

When it comes to Jack - he is more intelligent than the average young player and is represented better than most as I understand it, notably by his family. I suspect we will get to keep him for a minimum of one more season. If we one day got £30m for him and every penny of that went towards securing a redevelopment of Goodison Park then I would consider that a deal worth making.

We are fans and all share one thing in common, our love for Everton Football Club. However, there are fans that love their clubs in equal measure - Leeds United and Portsmouth being just two such clubs. The Board are trying to take the club to a better position. Without a new buyer it has to be a very long term, gradual business plan. Selling Rodwell would be assessed on that basis.

I was actually reading that thinking it was a good post until you said that......... tut tut...

I would prefer the money to be re invested in the team.....

  9. I'm with ya on that one Mike. I've got that special season itch as well.

The problem is we always make things hard or luck just doesn't go are way......

All I can hope for is that we don't lose any of our better players.....Im sure we will lose one of our better players this year and ruin our "special season" before it has even begun.

  10. Given how lucky the redshite are it wouldnt suprise me if portsmouth went into liquidation an be granted a wind-up order. This would then mean that all points took and lost from portsmouth this season would be eradicated and since the redshite failed to beat portsmouth they would find themselves once again in the top 4.

Everton who managed to beat portsmouth would ultimately lose 3 points????

    so...........

Is it just me or do liverpool always seem to find a way into the champions league? bending rules or sheer luck it always happens they always have to be in on the party and if there not in europe then noone else is allowed either (heysel). Normally i wouldnt mention a disaster but when you have liverpool fans holding up a banner saying "Steau bucharest 1986" it seems they are proud of what happened, and openly mocking everton fans (whom the majority will feel everton would and should have won the european cup instead of steau bucharest)

Look at 2005 for example, liverpool granted permission into the CL and finished 5th???? Now fair enough they won the cup and it seems fair enough that they should defend it. But this was not the rule and still isnt, if you fail to finish in the correct position domestically then you fail to qualify for the CL simple. so why were rules bent for liverpool???

Also suggestions of a CL playoff? why havent they done this since the top 4 became apparent???? and why has it only been considered more recently when the top 4 looks like it may finally be dismantled (in liverpools misfortune hahahaha)? Probabally because its feared liverpool wont make the top 4 the normal way and cant qualify for europe by winning the CL (already used that lifeline) so there only hope is through a playoff which they will probabally cock up and find yet another way into the CL.

IMO the truth is liverpool need the money more-so than everton, we have chipped away season after season slow and steady. The thought of liverpool not being in europe and getting the revenue which they have became reliant on has made them panic and instead of qualifying on the field the spawny/lucky kopites will always find a way into the champions league.

so without digging up the past and going on too much I will end on a high note

    Kopites are gobshites

    coyb

Anyone would think your a bitter blue reading that.......whatever happens happens... not arsed about the redshite myself....only a couple of times a season when im even bothererd looking at them....

  11. Didn't the form chart say that we've caught up about 7-8 points on both Spurs and Villa in 6 games and about 5 points on Liverpool and City (if my memory serves me correct)? As we have 12 games remaining then I definitely think it is possible that we will finish higher than we are now, if we beat Tottenham I think we're back in the hunt BIG TIME for 4th. City's run in is VERY tricky indeed, Liverpool are struggling to score goals and Spurs form is patchy at best. We need to start winning away from home and we need to get results against our rivals during the run in.

If your just looking it as another 8 points it seems very easy however this would mean that for us to catch them our form would have to be consistantly good and the rest slipping up again... thats us getting 29 out of 36 (2.4ppg) and the rest getting 20 or 21 out of 36 (1.75ppg)

4 teams chasing fourth are not going to average 1.75 points per game.... So I honestly think 4th is to much to expect.....

5th or 6th on the other hand is realistic......

anyway take each game as it goes...... and we will see what its like at the end of March... then Ill start getting excited...

All this talk will just create problems on the pitch.... you see how frustrated the crowd gets at home games... imagine what it will be like with all this pressure.....

Saying its just 7-8 points makes things look alot easier than they are...

  12. Looking at the form chart in another topic it shows you just how hard its going to be to get 8 points back on forth place...

Some point we can assume from that....and my very technical predictions

even if your form is shite your prob going to average a point per game (clubs fighting for european positions)

average form will see you get approx 1.7 points per game (a big fat guess based on that one and only chart ive even bothered looking at  )

If City, Spurs, Liverpool, and Villa all have average run ins we will still need to average nearly 2.5 points per game to finish 4th....

    So im going for.......

    4th Liverpool 67 pts

    5th Man C 65 pts

    6th Villa 62 pts

    7th Spurs 62 pts

    8th Everton 60 pts

I think liverpool having players back and managing to cope with the pressure better than the rest will push on and get fourth place

Man City will struggle with the pressure and pick up to many draws

Villa and Spurs will struggle also and under the pressure drop a few points each

I think our form will continue to some extent but 8 points I think will be just to much...

So there ya have it.. thats how it will be...... A spooky man came to me in a dream and told me so...

  13. Has anyone heard anything about Rodwell being named as MOM on Sky Sports....

This stinks of bullshit to me..... someone wanting a story to write perhaps.....He got all the plaudits in the Sunday papers I read... I guess it maybe time for the usual..." he will have to move on if he wants to improve" being spouted by these guys who think they know football in their lousy little columns....

  14. I thought we looked v dangerous with Pienaar in the middle of the park....Id like to see it continue.... I carnt see Cahill getting back in that team for a while..... well untill Donavan leaves anyway....

I thought the link up play was fantastic he offers alot more in the way of options for our midfield....

Also surprisingly Osman and Arteta were superb..... I didnt expect a performance like that from Osman, he was class yesterday...

I hope Moyes sticks with a similar team and an attackin mentality right through to the end of the season... all we need now is Jags back.

  15. oh, meant to ask you all, is there a phone that is like the iPhone but not an iPhone? I hate Mac software but they are so useful. Dont trust the idea of a Microsoft phone either and Blackberries are annoying to use. So, is there another phone that does the same stuff (apps etc)?

any android phone or Google Nexus phone http://www.google.com/phone
