It would have been a pretty shit interview if he didnt say anything!

Seriously though does reality play no part in this? Would you back Wales to win the next World Cup or Tranmere to win the FA Cup?

I cant for the life of me see where you have come to the conclusion that Cahill has admitted defeat in that interview if anything all he is guilty of doing is trying to turn a negative in to a positive

TIM CAHILL believes a lack of expectation can be Everton FC’s secret weapon as they aim to make a flying start to the Premier League campaign.

David Moyes’s side completed their warm-up programme on Friday by going down to a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Villarreal in their traditional home friendly.

The gloom deepened with Seamus Coleman taken to hospital nursing a serious ankle injury after a poor tackle from Spanish midfielder Carlos Marchena.

With no new signings imminent and fresh investment failing to transpire, the apprehension among Evertonians is in stark contrast to 12 months ago when Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson tipped the Goodison outfit as outsiders for Champions League qualification.

But Cahill is convinced having no pressure can work in Everton’s favour when they begin the season at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

“I’m not putting any expectations on us this season because I think it was a problem last season,” said the Australian. “We called Europe and called a very high finish.

“Expectations are a big thing – especially when you pile the pressure on yourself. At the moment we have no pressure.

“What’s the point of putting expectations on ourselves if clubs are spending hundreds of millions?

“We’ve got something special here and the main thing is that we try to start on fire and the first game will say a lot about how the season will start.

“I think we’re the only team not to go out and spend but what we do have is a great set of lads who are on long-term contracts who have been here for many a season.

“There are so many great players. We’ve just got to deal with what we have got and make the most of it because when you have got no expectations, anything can happen.

“We have a strong team when you look at it on paper. Hopefully the team will surprise people.”

I've read it again, and it still annoys me, so we'll have to differ on this one.

I can make excuses for players all day long, but normally if my first reaction is a dissatisfied one, then the player has normally chosen the wrong way to put his point across.

Had he said "no one thinks we have a cat in hells chance, so we just might surprise a few peeps" then that's one thing, but my interpretation doesn't read that.

Besides, it's not as if it's important as long as he puts a shift in.

  2. Yeah I Appreciate that I guess I should have said that I come from the Tottenham Edmonton area hence why

I am a Spurs fan, I just can't understand why other than the success he wants to Support them fuckers, traditionally you supported your local team, so for us now it would be Ipswich or Colchester, ok I admit occasionally they play attractive football, but so do the Scum, I was 11in 1976 when we moved to this area and was the only Spurs fan at my school, and most of the other kids were Ipswich fans partly due to them having a fairly good team under bobby Robson, and there was a handful of Leeds and Liverpool fans in the school because at that time they were the 2 best teams, but Forest a couple of years later won the league and the European cup and I don't recall seeing any Forest fans outside of nottingham

And I have taken him to few Spurs games and even tried the Local Colchester united and he still wants a fucking united shirt with either Rooney or Nani on the back, he even wants me to take him on the stadium tour of old Trafford

He's never been to Manchester He probably has no idea where Manchester is only that it's up north somewhere and that Lowry painted some depressing pictures of life in a cotton mill in manchester only because he did a project on him in school

How would you feel if your son wanted to Support Chelsea just because they won the league ?

My daughter is a United fan. mellow.pngmajor%20overreaction%20alert.gif

  3. 65 miles fromWHL

to be honest I have no idea how far Manchester is from here but it must be about that

I used to drive from Clacton to the Wirral a few times in the early nineties and always used to go down to london then the M1 and M6 as the A14 wasn't there then and it used to take 4 - 4 1/2 hours

    .Just banter Paul.wink.png

I was just laughing about you calling him a glory hunter when you lived a fair taxi ride from Spurs yourself lol.

From Utd's ground to your ground is 200 miles on the nose. Tottenham to Calais is only 110 lol. fishing.gif

  4. Man City, got a few mates who will provide some additional and "honest" feedback in work - so that will be a good one

I'm sure we can both do one Haf. I think Bill asked me as I've been a member on their forum for a few years and have a good relationship with many of the fans, but the more the merrier for me. smile.png

  5. Cheers mate

There is a lot of pessimism among the Spurs fans this year

I am not sure why we bought Peanut, as the world and his wife knew we needed a striker, still do

Your'e Jagielka fella would have been a better buy, although he looks like Dawson too much and some of our Chav fans from south essex are easily confused.

We have had some great games over the years and one of my most enjoyable moments at the lane was in the mid 90's, we were 2-1 down with 5 minutes to go, when we pulled it back to 2-2 and Darren Caskey came up with the winner well into Injury time, I think around that time the both of us were flirting with relegation

I used to talk to one of your old managers, as he was goal keeper for Colchester United at the time. and his son played for Spurs

Can you guess who he is ?

I take it you mean Mike Walker and his son Ian?

Not the longest serving Everton manager by any means lol.

  6. I like City as we all ways manage to beat them and we got Mark Hughes the sack.

Hate United with a passion well any team in red really

My son supports United and we live 400 miles away from manchester glory hunting little toe rag. I have to suffer him wearing a bloody Man U shirt, and what makes it worse is them bastards always beat us, we can play them off the park and they still win

    I have to laugh Paul.

If you live 400 miles away from Manchester then you live at least 150 miles from Tottenham. wink.png Are you in France? laugh.png

  7. RE Marco & Avinalaff

If he was still 18-19 I might agree with you but he isnt. Vic will never make a top class Premiership striker for three reasons:

1st - He has the touch of a rapist which hasnt improved since he came on the scene.

2nd - He doesnt score enough goals, and while I agree he hasnt started as much as he could have, whenever he gets in a goal scoring position the net is very rarely troubled. He took his goal against P.U in preseason very impressively, but its the 1st time in how long?

3rd - He is too busy moaning and complaining instead of getting on with the game. He is too quick to blame other people for his own poor performance, and until he accepts that it was his shit 1st touch that let someone else get the ball off him, or that the reason he fell over is because he wasnt strong enough then he will NEVER improve enough. He could bully any defence, but you get the feeling he doesnt want to, its easier to fall on the floor and claim for a foul.

I love it when players come through the academy, and I still wish we had JV but im afraid Vic wont ever make it past average, unless he changes his mentality.

Mate, do you really need to use those terms when expressing yourself?

I'm a family man in my mid 40's with a wife and daughter. No offence but as soon as I read unnecessary comments like that I just switch off,

How do you really expect anyone to take what you write seriously when you begin with that? It just makes me shake my head.

Sorry, but it's not for me.

  8. Hi Paul.

Hope all is ok at your end mate, and that the problems ease swiftly.

Our thought are with all the folks having their lives disrupted. I don't know if the football will go ahead, but if it does, it should be a great match as always.

You've managed to dip your toe in to the European football that we once enjoyed ourselves, and it was good to see a 'none Sky 4' team following our own steps of breaking into the top 4 when you did.

Not too happy about losing Pienaar, but that's how it is. Hopefully he will do well, but that's his problem now. I think our season will depend on how well we start. We can't keep giving teams a 20 point head start every year, and expect to catch them up.

I think playing Spurs is a great way to kick off the new season, so we'll have to see if it goes ahead, but regardless, let me take this opportunity in wishing you good luck, and hope you enjoy the months ahead.

  9. he can succeed as a striker...the kid can finish..he has showed it before that he can finish..he can hustle and he can bully the biggest..he's quick enough to keep with the fastest..sort his head and praise him when he does good..people just jump on his back before he's done anythin wrong

    Again I agree.

All young kids have attitudes. Before he was injured he was starting to have an impact. Moyes owes him another chance and the fans do too. He single handedly kept us in Europe with awesome displays. If he could find that again, he could become invaluable.

As I said earlier, £3M is a joke.

  10. The International match is already called off.

I can't see why fans would travel down to a war zone, and can't see that the police would allow it. Can you imagine a crowd of 40,000 people being anywhere near this nonsense?
