  1. Lawro's Prediction for Everton v Fulham

Everton's performance in their 4-4 draw at Old Trafford last week was hugely impressive, bearing in mind most people thought that, if there was going to be a reaction to their FA Cup semi-final defeat by Liverpool, it would be a negative one.

How wrong can you be? United were unhappy about their defending but the quality of the Toffees' goals was outstanding.

Fulham have been safe for a while and, like David Moyes's side, they are looking up the table and eyeing seventh place, which is definitely up for grabs.

Martin Jol has slowly changed the way the Cottagers play and, although it has been gradual, it has worked. Signing Pavel Pogrebnyak has been a masterstroke because he has kicked them on with his goals since January.

A top-half finish is a decent achievement for both sides and Moyes consistently delivers that year in, year out.

I know quite a few Everton fans were upset after that cup semi-final at Wembley because they felt that, if their side had really gone for Liverpool while they were still ahead against the Reds and scored a second, then that would have been game over.

But semi-finals are notorious for producing games where teams do not play at their best - ask Barcelona and Real Madrid after this week's Champions League ties.

    Prediction: Everton 2-0 Fulham

  2. Nigeria for sure, then maybe Ivory Coast and Cameroon.

Could be Ghana or Egypt but I'll go with the above.

Can I add, You get up to do this at some very odd hours

  3. Told you I didn't know.

I don't know (either) when this Footballer of the year awards thing even started so this presents an immediate problem.

Bergkamp for sure, maybe Alan Smith, could be Merson also, Van Persie could be in this, Henry too, forgot about him, maybe Anelka as well.

I don't think players like Drake and Bastin are involved in this, too far back for a Chapman era.

Four - Liam Brady (1979), Dennis Bergkamp (1998), Thierry Henry (2003 & 2004) and Robin van Persie (2012).

  4. I'll be quick - I don't know and only have the faintest idea.

Must be someone in the vicinity or nearby. Leyton Orient and Fulham I'll say.

I was thinking Bournemouth too but scrap that I think.

Stoke City (1972-1975) and West Bromwich Albion (1975-1976).

  5. I'll have a quick look at Wikipedia or something because I really don't know the answer etcdry.png

To the best of my knowledge, the last question is Leeds United, Manchester United and I don't know the other, maybe Derby County. Leeds is for sure, but not confident about the other two.

The Norway card player, I'll give a bit longer, but it wasn't Berg, you have to go back to the early 1980s to find an answer

Manchester United (1957-1963), Leeds United (1963-1975) and West Bromwich Albion (Player-Manager 1975-1977).

    Monday 23rd April 2012:

  6. Milner was u21 at Leeds as they weren't in prem for long with him - don't think Bowyer earnt a cap, maybe 1 or 2 but no goal. It'll be smith just before he moved to man u. They've been in the championship since.

Yes, Alan Smith on 7th September 2002 at Villa Park in a 1-1 draw with Portugal.

Did Portugal qualify this year?, I'll say Ronaldo then, if not him then The Netherlands and Van Persie, not sure about them either that they made it.

Mikael Forssell of Finland with seven goals scored.

  8. Lawro's Prediction for Manchester Utd v Everton (Sunday, 12:30 BST)

This is a Manchester United team that has the bit between their teeth and I cannot see them faltering now.

Everton are traditionally very tough opponents for United but it is going to be very tough for David Moyes' side between now and the end of the campaign following their FA Cup semi-final defeat by Liverpool.

As a player, it is very difficult to raise yourself when you lose a semi-final, especially in Everton's situation when they might be thinking that their season is now over.

For large parts of the game at Wembley, Everton looked a better team but I just thought they stopped playing when they went 1-0 up and ultimately that cost them.

The only thing the Toffees have got to play for now is the chance of finishing above the Reds in the league table.

That would be good, but if they are going to do it, you sense, the whole club - from the manager to the players to the supporters - needs a lift. I don't think they will get it at Old Trafford, though.

From United's point of view, it was interesting that Sir Alex Ferguson came out and admitted Ashley Young "overdid it" with his tumble to win a penalty against Aston Villa on Sunday.

He was absolutely right to say that because you cannot defend the indefensible, and my thinking is that will be the end of that and we won't see Young doing it again.

I think when your own fans are embarrassed by it, as United's are with Young, it is a sign something needs to be done.

Young is certainly not the only culprit, though, and we might be at the stage where the authorities have to start to take a look at ways of stopping it.

I'd hate to go down the retrospective route of looking at incidents on Monday morning and deciding "dive or no dive" but something needs to be done because it is not a case of this kind of thing creeping into the English game, it is an avalanche.

Not sure about the south american one, maybe Tevez, Mascherano, and I don't know who else actually. Oh Augero at Manchester City maybe, but not sure about him.

Yes, Pablo Zabaleta, Javier Mascherano and Sergio Aguero.

  11. Probably Rotherham in either 1961,1962 when it first started, but not 100 percent on that

QPR won in '67 when they were a third division side but I can't remember any lower league examples apart from the first answer.

Rochdale, who lost 4-0 on aggregate to Norwich City in Season 1961-62.

It wasn't Barmby for sure, was one of them Altidore maybe, and Garcia too I should think, the Australian. These questions are too tricky sometimes.

Yes, Jozy Altidore (United States) and Richard Garcia (Australia).

    Saturday 14th April 2012:

Which two players affiliated with Hull City at the time participated in the 2010 FIFA World Cup Finals?

  15. Mark Lawrenson's Prediction for Liverpool v Everton (FA Cup semi-final, 1230 BST)

Everton's form has been outstanding. They even had the luxury of resting players in Monday's win over Sunderland, which is something that has not really been afforded to their manager David Moyes in the past.

Apart from winning the Carling Cup, Liverpool have had a poor 2012 so far but their spirits will be lifted by the manner of Tuesday night's win at Blackburn.

It is so close to call this one and I think it is going to extra-time and penalties. I'm probably wrong but, if he plays, I just have this feeling that Liverpool's third-choice goalkeeper Brad Jones will be the difference in the shoot-out.

Jones has come into the picture from nowhere thanks to Pepe Reina and Alexander Doni being suspended. He wouldn't have believed you if you had told him two weeks ago that he had the chance of playing in a cup semi-final at Wembley.

I don't think it will be a great game, because very often these derby matches aren't - especially when there is even more at stake than just bragging rights, like there is on Saturday.

I have happy memories of playing for Liverpool at Wembley on three occasions in the 1980s - they were all good, because we won them all. They were not always great games to play in but they are great occasions.

This time around, as well as Everton are playing, Liverpool generally have the hex over Everton and I think they will shade it.

Like a lot of people connected to both clubs, I think it is absolutely ridiculous that both sets of fans have to go all the way down to Wembley for this game.

You could say to the supporters that it will be an extra £25 a ticket if you want to play it in Manchester, and that way they don't have to pay to get down to London and the Football Association still get their money.

Prediction: 1-1 (Liverpool to win on penalties)

  16. I think that the three clubs could have been The Royal Engineers, Wanderers and Nottingham Forest. But I am only guessing.

    One out of three.

The Wednesday (1889-90), Stoke (1890-91) and Nottingham Forest (1891-92).

The Football Alliance formed the Football League 2nd Division in 1892-93.

I don't know about this, I went with France initially for some reason.

Italy has competed in 15 men's Olympic Finals Tournaments. The United States is second with 14 and France & Brazil have competed in 12 each.

    I really don't know.

Maybe Villa Park Birmingham and Hillsborough, Sheffield but just stabs in the dark here.

No, they were closer to London - Brighton's Goldstone Ground and Portsmouth's Fratton Park. Nine different venues inside London were also used.

  19. Eh, what's with the new thread? Or why close the old one down even. unsure.png

Not sure I understand the question even. Are you telling me in the history of the World Cup tourney since 1930,. only one player has scored an own goal and for his own side on the same day of fixture, that's a bit far fetched isn't it.

Unless of course it means an actual World Cup Final but I don't remember such an instance.

I really can't remember such a thing and there must be dozens of examples, I was thinking maybe Algeria or Kuwait or something, but I really can't think right now.

Yes, it's only ever happened once.

Peter Schmeichel whilst playing for Aston Villa

Tim Howard whilst playing for Everton

Yes, Peter Schmeichel (Everton 3–2 Aston Villa, 20 October 2001), Brad Friedel (Charlton Athletic 3–2 Blackburn Rovers, 21 February 2004), Paul Robinson (Tottenham Hotspur 3–1 Watford, 17 March 2007) and Tim Howard (Everton 1–2 Bolton Wanderers, 4 January 2012).

    Sunday 8th April 2012:

Who was the only player to score for both teams in a FIFA World Cup Finals tournament game?

  21. I think Crystal Palace had a player years ago that did well, but can't remember his name.

Gudjohnsen at Chelsea has to be up there, surely.

Can't think of anyone else so we'll go with two players.

Just one - Swansea City's Gylfi Sigurdsson who was nominated for March 2012.
