Kohen
Both consoles are now moving towards more family orientated gaming, with Xbox releasing Kinect and Playstation releasing the Move, both have tried to creep in on the Wii's sales! I've not played either so I couldn't tell you anything based on that, but what I do know I will tell you. I've both an Xbox and a Playstation in my house and to be honest, they're basically the same. The only main reason I can think of, or rather the main reason why you would chose one over the other is online game play. For example, if all his friends have an Xbox and play Xbox Live (Online game-play) then he'll want an Xbox over the Playstation, and vice-versa. At 7 I'm not really sure how many of his friends will actually be actively playing online. For online play on the Xbox it costs, £5.99 a month, £14.99(?) for 3 and £39.99 for the year. Playstation is free, but in my personal opinion not as good! There are a few exclusive games, but not as many as there were a few years back so it really makes no difference. I love my Xbox

Matt
PS3 does BluRay too (this is how im tryin to convince the missus to let me get one), not sure the XBox does?
aaron
ps3 > 360 I own both and i now hardly use my 360. PS3 is the only console with blu-ray. Xbox can play HD DVD's but you need to spend more money on buying a HD hardrive and they dont make HD DVD's anymore.
