I think a lot of it has to do with the 7 subs as opposed to 5. 9/10 a manager will choose to keep his most experience players available for the bench, whereas before they would probably have been in the reserves because there would have been a suitable enough back up on the bench. Bit of a straw clutch! I still think they should be getting reserve games. Not only does it help them with their fitness but Im sure a youngster playing alongside an experienced pro will learn a hell of a lot.
