I miss the days of Arteta, Cahill, Neville, prime Pienaar, prime Osman, prime Distin. Seems like a trend of buying too young and too old. Where's that sweet spot of buying 25-27 yr old established first team player. Gibson and McGeady were swings and misses.

Money as simple as that the games moved on and so has the financial side of it

 

Deulofeu at anywhere under £6m is potentially a better player and buy than any of those mentioned at the end of your post Cleverly if Martinez can get the best out of him could be a good player also

 

Hopefully we bring in a quality creative midfielder a keeper and a back up CB keep hold of Mirallas or bring in Lennon and I'd say that's potentially the best side and squad we've had in a very long time
