Louis Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 I know this is an old subject but I would like to dig it up again.. as we now know Nike successfully bought out Umbro. I was reading an article about how the Nike head kit designer makes contact with club supporter groups and asks them what they would like to see in the kit. The main examples given were the Aston Villa and the Celtic kit - incidentally both are commemorative of European Cup wins this season. Taking into account Nikes acquisition Umbro may start to look at what fans want instead of having a standard design but changing the three colours around. They gave fans the chance to say what they would like on kit - "For it's a grand old team play for" is written on the bottom left of the shirt, they requested the gold star for the 1967 European Cup win, as it is the 40th anniversary of the win they have written 25 MAIO 1967 – LEÕES DE LISBOA – 40° ANIVERSARIO (25th May 1967, Lisbon Lions, 40th Anniversary) on the shirt... It's becoming a common theme now but if Everton are the people's club why not give the supporter groups the opportunity to have something unique on the kit? I'd like to see a few "Everton firsts" around the neckline - Founder members of the Football League in 1888, Founder members of the FA Premier League in 1992, First club to construct a purpose-built football stadium, First club to issue a regular match programme for home fixtures, First club to wear numbered shirts from 1-11 - 1933 FA Cup final, First club to play 4000 top-flight games, First club to amass 5000 League points, First club to play 100 seasons in the top-fight This is not dissimilar to Arsenal's current away kit which has a list of Herbert Chapman's input to the game on the shirt. Maybe we could have a "If you know your history" on the bottom left of the shirt Next season is the 130th in the clubs history... maybe they will have a special commemorative shirt for that (probably will if Wyness sees the opportunity!). Incidentally in two years time one commemorative I would like to see would be based on the 1969/1970 kit... the one that the likes of Gordon West (goalkeeper equivalent anyway), Alan Whittle, Ray Wilson, Tommy Wright, Alex Young, Howard Kendall, Roger Kenyon, Brian Labone, Morrissey, Joe Royle, Alan Ball, Sandy Brown, Colin Harvey, John Hurst, Jim Husband all played in. Does anyone have thoughts as to what they'd like to see in such a shirt? Quote
EFCfanatic Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 (edited) Would be great if we could get input! I'm not sure bout the firsts on the kit (thats just me like) although I'd like founder members of the football league and/or something simple like "If you know your history" like you said. Probs cant get anything there on z cars? Edited November 19, 2007 by EFCfanatic Quote
Louis Posted November 19, 2007 Author Report Posted November 19, 2007 I've changed my mind a bit already re: the everton firsts bit.. What do you think of this ? Personally I think it looks quite smart It's just for fun Quote
StevO Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 i like the idea of the firsts, but maybe ghosted into the fabric, listed down the front. could throw in the grand old team line, i like that Quote
Maghull70 Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 Dont like the grand old team idea but thats just me coz I dont like the song and the way the song gets churned out all the time (Overkill). It sounds good when the fans sing it but that recording is woeful. Forever Everton is a better song and more original. I like the "Founder member of the football league" idea. How about 'kopites are gobshites".. or on a more serious note "Liverpools first club" or "Liverpool's Premier club" which means the same but just sounds better. Quote
Josh Berno Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 i like the idea of the firsts, but maybe ghosted into the fabric, listed down the front. could throw in the grand old team line, i like that Agree becuase if we had all our firsts listed on the kit we would have to extend the kit to xxl Love the idea tho. Would it be Nike or would it still be Umbro? TBH I think Nike would be better comercially and financially. We could have Arteta on the nike adverts! Quote
cornishgazefc Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 We could have Arteta on the nike adverts! depends if his boots are by nike mate i like the idea, maybe the "forever everton" i love that song got it as my ring tone its well good, ere maybe we could make it into a chart song get blue to sing it!!!! hahaha would be fitting Quote
Louis Posted November 20, 2007 Author Report Posted November 20, 2007 Arteta usually wears Adidas boots... white with black stripes and a red tongue.. don't know what model they are though :\ Quote
cornishgazefc Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 well he can't do the nike advert if we got sponsered by themm, don't he have to do his boot sponser? Quote
StevO Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 he wears white addidas preditors with blue trims. he wore them whilst advertising our umbro kit, just as other players at other clubs do. no players sponsorship deal would cover club sponsorships Quote
