This is definitely not the type of player we need. I expect to see someone like Kagawa or Isco to fill that role but unlikely to happen.

It still feels like a loan this. Made up we've got him but sods law is barca could essentially assess him and think "is he worth £15m?,Let's buy him back and flog him for more"

No, not really. They just can't buy him back, he needs to want to go back! If they are buying back to sell on, why would he go back?
If he does well here over next couple of years, it would mean we were doing well. If that's the case, he will not want to go.
-
I recon he was promised a go in the middle where he wants to play.
-
We need to play a team which is controlled enough not to get bookings to have a chance to qualify for Europa via Fair Play.
-
The only good reason I can see Baines not taking penalties is if Martinez plans to sell him in the summer so is working out his options for next year. I cannot see any other logical reason for him not taken them.

Makis.
Many grammar mistakes have been made by yourself on this page.
Maybe it is you who should not be so lazy and make an effort when making your posts, especially when it is only you who feels that there are no excuses for it.
I have no problem with how people post (grammar or abbreviations), but do have a problem with people who believe they are better than everyone else, and people who do not notice their own mistakes, but like to point out others.

So why is Besic way up there in our MotM season totals?
He has been good when called upon. He was supposed to be better as a Centre Back, so its Jags place he should be trained for and it would help having defenders who can play out from the back because that's a big part of the issue with our tactics at the moment.

...................Lukaku...................
For me all of the blanks are up for grabs, you have a minimum of five years in all of them players, Coleman being 31 in five years time. I would hope Garbutt takes over from Baines during the next few years should he continue to develop. The rest we may need to look elsewhere as no one else seems to be pushing, Browning looks a talent but can't see him shifting Stones or Coleman, we need a centre half with a left foot for me, I prefer the balance.
Not sure about Robles, but I would add Besic to that list as a Midfielder or maybe even centre back.

My team for tomorrow.
Robles
Coleman Stones Galloway Garbutt
Besic McCarthy
Lennon Barkley Henan
Lukaku

Here are my changes to give us a younger team and better players for the style we play.
This would save us £6m on wages as well to keep bank happy and will roughly cost nothing in transfer fees.
All realistic transfers and team would be:
GK: Nyland
RB: Montoya
CB: Stones
CB: Van Dijk
LB: Garbutt
RW: Deulefou
CM: McCathy
CM: Besic
LW: Janajez
AM: Barkley
ST: Lukaku
Average Age around 23 years old. Keep same team for 5 years and then it is ready, plus the wages saved would clear bank OD.

He should have been sacked a while ago.

Wolsburg are reported to want Lukaku for £33m.
That is a profit, no matter how he has been this season so that should put the price we paid for him when discussing his performances out of the equation. This proves we have not spent too much on him.
I'm not saying we should sell him for that, just that now the price we paid should be forgotten, he's our player and we have not wasted any money.
He's no longer a -£28m flop, even if he is poor, he is a +£5m flop (which is good business which ever way you look at it). I doubt any other Everton players will have come out of this season with a higher valuation than the start of the season.
-
Is it good players for us, or best players who where with us (but not necessarily good with us)?
I'm thinking of players like Mustafi who wasn't good until he left, or people like Eto'o or Saha who where good before they got here.
-
Lazarette would be an ideal player for us.

Martinez wanted competition in all positions so that if a player is out of form, there is good competition to replace. This was meant to motivate the regular players to get the best out of them, and, to show that coming here as a squad player would get you a chance to impress.
In dropping Joel (and Besic earlier in season, and Garbutt after Europa), this has not only removed the motivation of the regular players (because it has shown that you will not lose you place due to strong competition from the squad), it must be demoralising for the players trying to get in the team. Why would Garbutt, Joel and maybe even Besic want to stay if they have no chance of getting a regular spot however good they do.
It's almost as if improving the squad depth was a complete waste of time and money, as the effect it should have had has been nullified by what I believe are poor decisions by Martinez.

Out of the 3 left backs I would let the one with the best sell value and that is Baines. His value is currently a lot more than the other 2s but will not be for long due to his age. Its a shame the Defensive Midfield option (playing Baines there) never really worked out as that would have meant there would not be a problem keeping them all happy.
-
I think almost anyone would be better than Martinez now. I do not think he can recover it, we are in a downward spiral which usually only stops with a change. I would take someone like Martin O'Neill. Not a world beater, but we could not attract a top manager when Martinez was appointed, so definitely wont now! O'Neill knows a few of our players and has quite a bit of experience.

Well my new discussion: 'Now should Martinez be sacked?' has been removed I will start it again here.
YES

YES YES YES YES YES YES
-
Sack Martinez, it may be to late already.
-
Wrong Goalie
Wrong Midfield
Wrong Wingers
Defensive looking line up against Stoke!
-
If we don't win today, then we need to have a new manager tomorrow.

Yes, a few months back.

What a waste of £7m. Must be better options available for that fee.
Only plus is, if we can waste £7m on him, we must have a lot more money to spend than I expected we would have. If we are spending £7m on a back up defender, surely we are going to spend £20m-£25m on a first choice playmaker!
