  1. I will say this, Cahill can't put a cross in for shit and thats where Lampard and Gerrard have a big advantage. Cahills shooting from distance is also a fair way behind them, but its getting a lot better. And his heading more then makes up for these two disadvantages.

Just let him take the Pens so we get a goal scorer very high up the tally.

Arteta though is clearly technically the best player we have. Flawless technique.

  2. I agree that he certainly shackled Gerrard very well the other week but thats one game! Generally he tends to mistime tackles and give away cheap free kicks, a bit like Neville at times.

Just because he has played that positions all his life (minus a good 4ish seasons hes played as a second striker with everton) doesnt mean he wont look lost as a PREMIER LEAGUE midfielder. My old man played centre back all his life but he would look well out of his depth in the premier league!

He really is lacking in technical quality, not compared to you or me but compared to the best players in the world, in fact even compared to the likes of heitinga, Arteta, Pienaar, Baines etc. He had a couple of decent attempts today but generally his distance shooting is poor, his passing isnt great and his control gets away from his more often than it should for a world class player.

Noone here is doubting Cahill as a vital member of the team and squad but if he isnt 100% with it or the opponent are doing a good job on marking him, his impact on the game is severly limited.

Heitinga? Baines has one foot. Pienaar has one foot. These players are more technically sound then Cahill? Please. Heitinga just smashes the ball and wins the crucial tackle.

Watch todays game for instance i counted the entire game. Cahill gave the ball up 4 times. 2 from bad touches, 2 poor short passes. He receieves the ball with his furthest foot time and time again. He also plays well in tight quarters which he was never previously able to do. He releases early in a majority of cases.

He gets back to defend. Hes strong in the air.

I think hes technically sound now. Since 2007 that is. His tackling isn't as reckless either anymore. Which is a good thing for us. No reds lately.

  3. oh ET if your using the A.Cole argument for England sakes....Cahill is a big fish in a very small pond...so will undoubtably be affective for them!

Please he'd be effective for England to.

Guy produces time and time again for his country. Against Serbia you guys would have had the same problems. Cahill was all over Vidic.

Fair enough. He went missing today so not going to argue with you on this.

  5. Coleman and Baines were fantastic. Howard was awful. Cahill was very tired and not at his best. Jagielka was a bit rusty. Distin played hard but went missing and misjudged a few crucial balls. Heitinga was quiet. Pienaar ran his backside off.

Man of the match had to go to Modric. He commanded the entire match.

For us i will go with Coleman. I thought Baines did okay although his set pieces apart from the goal weren't great and he made a few sloppy mistakes in defence.

    Modric.

  6. Thats because Lampard has not played all season, neither has Fabregas.

Cahill has scored 4 goals, i'm not sure how many Gerrard has got at the moment but he will finish with more than Tim, and i think Malouda has scored more.

The 4 players i have mentioned will all finish the season with more than Cahill, i was just pointing out the folly of your claim about naming one player who scores more ...etc etc ...

Did you even listen to anything i just said?

In a normal season, Gerrard and Lampard outscore Cahill from penalties. Thats the only difference. Cahill scores a lot more goals non-penalties.

  7. Two points:

1 - Bill nailed it, you're using this year against who? plus is the argument 'Cahill is world Class THIS YEAR' or...ever in the premier league?

2- Im a ST holder and have been for years, i can honestly say my opinions have never been decided based on the fact ive just stared for 90mins at the back of someones head! Stupid fuckin thing to suggest that many fans jugdements have been hindered by someone standing up m, because honestly that has never happened and if it did, i'd stand up too! What you see on TV is the good bits ;) Fellaini and the defenders get credit for their off-the-ball antics aswell as what they do on! Cahill is brilliant at timing his runs, being a nuisnace, heading...not many better however his technical ability lacks, his passing short n long, his long distance shooting is poor, he cant take set-pieces nor can he run at blistering pace! So i among 40k others see everything Cahill does (and more importantly doesn't) do...you however only see the pretty bits ;)

There isn't anything wrong with watching the game on television. No need to start swearing. Im not talking about off the ball antics, im talking about last weekend for example. If hes so weak technically how was he able to disposses Gerrard at least 4 times and hit long through balls to yakubu with his left foot?

Its a myth. Hes got a good all round game.

  8. These two sum it up for me.

I think Cahill is World Class at what he does which is getting in defenders faces, harassing, winning headers against much more physical players, making late runs and having a great knack of scoring late or vital goals, as well as bringing a brilliant attitude which I wish more players had. But you need to have more than that to be truly world class.

His passing is average, he generally isnt that great at tackling and he looks lost as a central midfielder.

He isnt world class but when he is on form and comes out guns blazing no-one will want to play against him.

I respect what your saying but he tackled Gerrard at least 5 times on the weekend. Hes actually a good tackler. How does he look lost in a position he has played all his life?

I tend to disagree, thats the thing. Hes actually not lacking much technically since 2007. Hes come a long way. Moyes sees it, the only people who don't are Everton fans.

  9. With every post you are losing more credibility. If you were offered lampard or gerrard in exchange for tim you wouldn't accept? You are deluded. Take his pros and cons, he is one of the least rounded players we have in our team. We use his attributes, determination, timing and heading.

World class? Watch messi, iniesta, Ashley cole, Ramos, that's world class.

You are starting to remind me of a Welshman trying to convince everyone that the stereophonics are up there with the beatles, u2 and the rolling stones.

Ashley Cole? What has the guy ever done for England lol.

In the biggest and most important competitions? Euro and World cup.

  10. My main problem is, he rarely gives possession away. And he will be brilliant in games and he will score goals. Yet he will be over looked and it will be given to a defender, even if the defender makes a mistake that costs us goals. It has happened with Distin a lot over the past two seasons. He was fantastic last week. But he has cost us a lot of goals and received points for MOTM during these games.

If you say Cahill is not world class? I can't agree. Name me one player in the game who scores as many important match winning goals as he does? And this is the best league in the world.

Im Everton through and through. Im not playing the race card. But even Cahills bad games, are judged harshly here. And in these bad games, hes quiet, not crap, because he is good with possession.

The man of the match rankings are highly flawed on here. Cahill will get a 8 from goal.com and other sites, our defenders will get 6s and 7s and yet they will get a majority of the votes.

I just think hes undervalued, underappreciated and under rated from Everton fans. Opposing club fans don't under rate cahill.

  11. Its time to be honest here. If you hate Cahill, just because your favourite player is Baines or Jagielka or Seamus then just be honest.

But its time to compare Cahill to the likes of Gerrard and Lampard. And define him as world class?

I know a lot of you here were calling for him to be benched at the end of last season. But here are the facts:

    1. He is a target man. Even from the midfield. Possibly the greatest header of the ball in the game today. How can anyone say he isn't with 13 of his 16 last goals coming from headers? Not to mention he has outplayed Vidic everytime the teams have met. Including the world cup.

    2. Cahill scores World Cup Goals. Something Gerrard doesn't do and hasn't done.

    3. He holds possession well and is now a complete player.

To my knowledge we have 3 world class players. 1. Cahill. 2. Arteta, although hes soft in defence. And 3. Baines. Who is going to be very very good soon.

To conclude, major newspapers and soccer television broadcasts know the threat of Cahill. Mention him as being monumental to Cahill and mention him being world class. It seems his harshest critics are here. As seen by Yakubu and Jagielka getting MOTM votes over the weekend. Cahill had his best game in the Everton jersey ever, and people voted for Yakubu 10 times.

Anyhow do you agree with widespread global media reports that Cahill is world class?

And are Arteta and Baines? I think all 3 are.

  12. I went for Jagielka myself. I thought that he commanded the defence perfectly and was by far the best defender we had. I agree that Distin was good but I felt that his heading was actually poor - Jagielka seemed to have a faultless game today against Liverpool. Kept Torres out of trouble and made some excellent tackles, especially that one towards the end when Gerrard I think it was looked all set to score.

Notible mentions to Cahill & Mikel for the goals. Yakubu for working his arse of today, if he would have scored a goal then he could have been MOTM and a mention for Beckford. I've not liked the look of him because I thought he was shit against Newcastle but today he looked like he has a point to prove. Good game from him (for the time he was on)

Reasons like this why i don't post on here much.

Here is what we had. We had 2 world class performances.

    1. By Tim Cahill. 2 By Leighton Baines. Cahills goal gives him MOTM. He also cut Liverpool to shreds, dispossed Gerrard about 10 times.

    2. Yakubu and Distin and Arteta all played very well. But weren't in the class of the two above.

    3. Jaglielka and the rest go to this tier?

    Lucas Neill had a blinder.

  13. Hey,

I think admins/mods should consider this for next season. For each man of the match thread, possibly include ratings from other sites such as goal, espn, bbc and all other sites that rate each players performance. A lot of these sites rate our players out of 10 and its important to include them in the threads, because voting in these threads has been amazingly inaccurate over the past season and its getting worse.

    Examples :

    - During Fellainis hot run of form, he barely recieved any votes in 2 matches in which he absolutely dominated. At one stage it got to the point of Moyes labelling him the best midfielder in the premier league, yet he couldn't secure many votes.

    - It became blatantly obvious as the season went on that many posters had fallen for Heitinga's hard tackles and heart, which im not doubting. But this also led to a bias overlook of his long balls which consistently led to a loss of possesion and his poor ball control and short passing at times was also ignored.

    - The two Australian's also copped a lot of flack. Neill set up 2 goals against Bolton and had a blinder, everyone else apart from Saha was terrible, yet Neill didn't get a vote. Also Cahill seems to go un noticed in these man of the match polls, unless he scores. Many don't see his role in defence, which is where we drop back to a 4-5-1. Cahill has had a rich run of form over the past month and also gone unrewarded.

    - Billy was horrendous in some games, but still got votes for a goal or an assist. Even though at times he cost us the game.

    - Pienaar similar to Fellaini was unrewarded during rich patches of form.

Im not having a go at anyone. But it is what it is. I mean at one stage we had a time to drop Tim cahill thread. Than 2 weeks later Moyes said hes the best buy he has brought to Everton. Things are very inaccurate in the polls. I mean Fellaini should have already had this won by a mile, had things been accurate. With Pienaar 2nd, Cahill and Howard fighting it out for 3rd.

  14. Do any of you guys watch the game by any chance? The same way Heitinga continues to get votes for long balls and big kicks. Thats how. Cahill had a good game and got us the penalty. Neill played well while he was with us, he was a great fill in. Not to remind you guys about the game against Bolton where he set up two goals and only got a man of the match vote from me, when everyone else in our team was absolute shite.

Maybe its time to recognize cahill is our best player. Other teams fans do.

  15. In my bias interpretation, Tim is our best and most important player. His year hasn't been that great, but it has once again been solid. In saying that if he actually plays to his absolute potential, we could do big things in any season.

So i have a few questions?

How do you rate Tim compared to Bendtner and Berbatov? Now to me, those two seem pretty soft, and they obviously play for major clubs. Berbatov is no where near as potent in the air, whereas Bendtner is close, but not in Tim's aerial ability. Obviously other skills Berbatov is better. But in the case of Bendtner his skills aren't actually better than Cahill's.

So is Cahill better than Bendtner and Berbatov? I think there is a case can be made to show both.

And if he is, what could we get for him if we sold him at the end of the year.

So we could than buy a very good striker for next year?

  16. FFS you are annoying... I'm an Aussie, and I love Cahill (easily our best player) and I voted for him for MOTM. Distin and Heitinga I felt were also instrumental for us tonight too...

Nothing wrong with other fans having different point of views for MOTM, but do you have to be such a wank about it?

Where the hell does Moyes say Cahill was Man of the Match...I wish you would stop making shit up to make your point.

Mate, if you set one up, and you score one and you have an all round solid game, that is man of the match, when comparing that to a solid defender, who did nothing brilliant but was consistent.

You guys need to look up the definition for man of the match.

Like i have said before. Cahill cops way to much shit on this forum. And Moyes always starts him when fit? Why? Because unlike everyone here, he knows how good Cahill is. And thats why hes on the big money to coach, and we all contribute as a hobbby.
