Raccyboy
"Boro appealed on the grounds that the offence did not amount to violent conduct but a regulatory commission rejected the claim as "frivolous" and increased the mandatory three-match ban for the offence to four." okay, can't really argue that according to the laws of the game he deserved the red -- a stupid retaliation and raising his hands to an opponent but really two questions: 1) how on earth can they increase his ban from the standard 3 to 4 -- is that just to show teams not to make silly appeals against ref's decisions? 2) how does the "regulatory commission" not pick up on the provocative behaviour by mascherano that directly lead to the retaliation and punish him with a similar ban? it really is time to allow for retrospective yellow and red cards to be handed out by review committees to pick up on instances missed by the referee (similarly to rugby union, they could limit this only to incidents where the player was not already punished at the time by the ref). this would go a long way to stamp out the diving, cheating and ugly challenges that players otherwise think they can get away with.
