He could have signed a lucrative 5 year deal with Fulham in January but Zulte-Waregem did not want to let him leave for the €4m Fulham offered the club. Meanwhile they kept negotiating with Udinese (who were willing to pay Zulte-Waregem €6m but didn't offer Malanda as good a deal) behind Malanda and his agent's back. Eventually a move in January was denied and they did not make him a new (and better) contract offer. Now he's bought out his contract for something between 50.000 and 100.000 euros, that's the wages he was going to receive in the remainder of his 2 year contract, despite him being one of their best players.
